This a boutique hotel located in an area not too far from union square. The lobby is large enough with a nice bar area. Front desk staff were very pleasant and helpful. There are two elevators and they can be a little slow at times. I had a king room on a high floor. Outside one set of Windows was a building that was very, very close where you can see everything going on in the apartments. I kept my shades closed the entire time. The bed was comfortable. Attended a biz meeting at the hotel. Nice cosy lobby, friendly and efficient staff and service. Decent bar with a large TV , good for NBA finals game one viewing. Rooms were spacious and comfortable. Lifts were a bit slow. Easy walk to Union Square where you can do some shopping. Only downside during my stay was distribution of items to rooms by meeting organiser via hotel staff were all messed up, even though items were all properly labelled with guest names.

Spent a long weekend in SF and this spot is ideally situated to walk or catch public transportation to key sites in the city. The hotel staff is quite friendly and helpful, always greeting you when you come or go. The room was quite spacious, which is a rare find these days (spacious enough to have a king size bed and couch, without feeling cramped!).

Old building with relatively small rooms and only 2 elevators for 16 floors. Odd layout of lobby and bar. Rooms are nicely decorated. Beds are reasonably comfortable. I was able to get a decent rate (under $300) when most of the time during the week it runs between $300 and $450 per night. For that kind of money it is not a god value. The location calls for Union Square but realistically it is on the border to the Tenderloin district. One block away and you have to step over homeless people as y... Read more

I was a little worried about this hotel after reading some of the reviews but was pleasantly surprised. We had dropped our car off (did a fly drive from LA) and walked the the street to this hotel - yes there are homeless people and yes there are some 'interesting' people knocking about, but doesn't any large city? The hotel is a short walk from Union Square and there's a Walgreens on the corner (don't pay for the goodies in your room - far too expensive!) Our room was lovely and modern (we were... Read more

Some notes/tips/thoughts: - reception and bar is nice but sadly doesn't reflect the overall hotel - twin bedroom is a good size but has an awkwardly shaped bathroom and needs some renovation. - request a high floor away from the street noise - breakfast is bland. Go over the road to Olympic Cafe instead - valet parking is $59 and total waste of money. Drive 5 meters past the hotel there is parking for $25 - Staff are nice and friendly but generally service is not up to par you'd expect - Cou... Read more

Great customer service, especially from Taja at the front desk! She helped us figure out the Muni schedule for a day trip to Golden Gate Park and also accommodated our late check out request. We rented 2 connecting rooms for 5 nights. The rooms were very clean, the bathrooms were clean and spacious. Beds were comfortable. They provide coffee in the lobby, but would have liked a coffee maker in room also. The mini bar was tiny.... I was using it for milk, juice and fruit for breakfast. I brought cereal for the kiddos! No pool. We stayed here on points, so cannot comment on value. I would return again.

Summary: You will be fine at this property. It is well located, reasonably priced, fairly clean and has an inviting lobby. Arrival logistics are a bit chaotic. Review: The reason you should stay at the Adagio is its excellent location in the Union Square area. You can walk to most anywhere ranging from Market Street shopping, Maiden Lane, and even down to Ferry Plaza. It is remarkably quiet, and this says a lot because the portion of Geary that it is on is noisy and often chaotic. The bar acros... Read more

Must say, I was a bit concerned when we stepped out of the cab to be confronted by a man in a mac helping us with our luggage, of course we had no idea who he was and half expected him to run off with our luggage as he wasn't wearing a uniform, having said that it was a cold, windy evening. However, as all the staff were, he was a very nice person, only too willing to help. The hotel was very clean, staff as I said were always trying to make our stay that much better with any help and advice they... We stayed here for eight nights as our San Francisco base. The hotel location is okay, as it's very easy to get around, especially if you download the 'Uber' app. This is a cheaper alternative to a taxi and is very popular in San Fran! We used this mainly in the evenings and walked everywhere during the day. The first thing you will notice in the area is the serious amount of 'beggars' and mentally unwell people, this is a real problem in the city. However please do not let this put you off the ... Great location, clean rooms just bad service. When checking in on the Marriott app, I requested two extra pillows - simple enough request. Upon arriving at the hotel, no valet or bell staff. My family of 4 stayed here over July 4th weekend. We had a double room which I thought were fairly large sized and decent sized bathroom. Décor is up to date. I loved the convenience to Union Square and the smaller sized hotel (I peeked into the Marquis which by comparison was very busy). This hotel is a nice, fairly modern hotel. It is near to union square if you want to do shopping but if you want to see the piers, golden gate, baseball etc it's about a 30-40 minute walk away. If you are at that end of town at night, be careful walking back to the hotel as there are a lot of homeless who will come right up to you asking for money and can be quite intimidating of a night time as it gets quiet around this hotel as there isn't much going on. While not being on union square and attracting the higher prices, The Adagio makes a great compromise. It's only a 5 min to walk union square and has plenty of access to bars/resturants. This hotel is in a great location, especially is you are a tourist who likes to walk. We booked one of the larger rooms with pullout couch and was very comfortable with 4 people (2 kids). There was a slight mix-up with delivery of our luggage, but other than that the staff were very nice and accommodating, especially toward kids. This is not always the case in nice hotels. I wouldn't call this a cheap hotel by any means, but considering the location, it is fairly decently priced. It was a nice place with a lot of character. The staff were great. So here's the thing, the Marriott Autograph Collection hotels, of which the Adagio is one, are supposed to be unique luxury hotels, "#exactlylikenothingelse". I will say that the Adagio's exterior is unique, the front door is impressive, and they have a nice (albeit small) lobby. But the rest including the room I had was thoroughly ordinary, exactly like everything else. We had a pleasant stay here. Check-in was quick. We were on the 10th floor and we found it very quiet. The room was in good but not amazing shape (small hole in the sheet, carpet felt sticky). I don't usually go to hotel bars, but the Happy Hour here was a good deal. One nitpick: the front door to the hotel was very hard to pull open. I can imagine some people having trouble opening it. I travel to San Francisco every week for work. I try to stay at the Adagio as much as possible but have had to stay at other hotels on occasion, such as the Grand Hyatt, Westin St. Francis, Sir Francis Drake (Kimpton), Sheraton, and a few Marriotts.. None of them compare to the Adagio, which has over-sized rooms that are elegantly remodeled, comfortable beds, large updated bathrooms, great views - and is QUIET. Many hotels have super small bathrooms with no room for your toiletries, whereas the ... Read more

This was my second time staying at the Union Square end of SF ( previously stayed at the lovely Hotel Rex on Sutter Street) The room was on the 9th floor. I was pleasantly surprised at the spaciousness of the room, It was extremely well appointed and the beds were very comfortable. The bathroom was also very clean and modern. The room was bright and fresh in appearance. The hotel is about a 4 block walk from Union Square itself. Very easy to find using the red lined cable car street as a 'landma... Read more

We had a great time at this wonderful hotel! Very clean. Unique style. Excellent staff. It is in a convenient location to get around the city. Breakfast was really tasty, and the coffee is wonderful. We will definitely recommend to others & visit again!

This was my first time staying here - I usually stay at other business hotels in SF but due to various conferences, hotel availability was limited. Well, I could not have been happier with this hotel. It is lovely; quiet with really friendly staff. It has a small bar and restaurant in lobby; comfortable even if you are alone. I ordered room service one night and the burger and fries were delicious. There is 24 hour coffee in lobby available. There is a Walgreens on corner, and Starbucks abou... Read more

We spent couple of nights at this hotel. The hotel staff are really professional and exceed our expectation. However, the hotel itself is quite old. You will find dirty carpet as mentioned by couple of reviews. Everything is in small size: elevator, dining area, room. The elevator can fit no more than 6 adults and one of them has problem with the floor number display (you are at the lobby floor and the display shows level 7). They provide breakfast but the dining area is very small, and if you ... Read more

I would recommend this hotel to anyone and everyone. I can't wait to go back.

I was really really excited about staying at this hotel. I'd looked at photos a a was looking forward to my night of business travel. I got in really late 1:30 am and stood at the door, which was locked, for 3 min ringing the bell to be let in. Finally the bell guy came by and buzzed me in from outside. Once inside I was able to check in and headed to my room. The ambiance is really nice and when I got to my room I really liked the decor. As you can imagine I was exhausted coming from the east c... Great service and good location. Nice boutique hotel.Parking was cheaper next door to self park vs. valet. Rooms were in good shape and wifi was strong (and free if you're a Marriott member). Breakfast voucher was included and although the restaurant area was small, options were good and it was fast.

This hotel was fine and the rooms comfortable, but the location was not too convenient for access to the sites, e.g. Pier 39, Chinatown, Baseball. The door staff were very helpful and knowledgeable of the area. Honey Honeys was recommend as a location for breakfast and though you needed to queue at certain times, it was the place to go. The character of this hotel was the initial draw and it delivered.

We booked this hotel as part of our family road trip and were a little concerned by some of the reviews put on by other visitors, however our fears were soon cast aside when we got inside. The hotel was clean and modern and the reception staff extremely polite and helpful as well as very speedy in booking us in. We were allocated room 308 which looked very nice and presentable, with 2 Queen beds, however the bath was in a poor state and we had problems with the wifi. we immediately spoke with th... Read more

We booked this hotel for our sister trip to San Francisco because we wanted to experience a boutique type hotel, and Marriott did not disappoint! The entire staff was so welcoming each and every time we walked in the door and most of the time they were there to open it for us! They have iced water right by the front desk and coffee and tea set up right past the lobby, with plenty of seating to grab a cup of coffee and get off your feet. All of the staff at this hotel could not be nicer and the location is great. Our room was very quiet and comfortable. We arrived late in the evening and we did not see any beggars/homeless people outside the hotel entrance as other reviewers have, but instead there was a nice doorman. The hotel hallways are not as bright, clean, and large as a standard Marriott hotel because it is an old building. However the rooms and hotel lobby are just as nice as any Marriott I've stayed at and the archit... Read more

The Adagio worked very well for our needs. The exterior and common areas are beautiful and sophisticated, which instantly give a good feeling. The staff truly stood out as some of the best - friendly at the door, the desk, the bar and in the breakfast room. They seemed happy to be there, which made me happy to be there. The room itself was comfortable and nicely appointed. I did not get a feel of Autograph Collection "luxury", but it had a nice boutique feel. We enjoyed a lovely bay window seati... Read more

There are no tea/coffee making facilities in the room but beverages are available, free of charge, 24/7 in the lobby. Free WiFi is also available in the lobby but you have to pay if you require access in your room. Overall, a good choice for visiting this great city

Well this hotel looks and is lovely however on our 3 night stay we were put in a room with no view and I mean no view. We were looking onto the inside of the building where old carpets had been thrown out. For the price this for me was well below average. The valet parking is so expensive at $59 a night but this seemed the going rate for hotel parking and the chap that sorted the car out for us was great. However go just a little farther up the street from Adagio and park it yourself for $30 a n... Read more

Nice valet guys upon arrival, and prompt. Lobby was small and seemed outdated and well 'traveled'. Front desk staff wasn't that friendly...especially being Marriott Plat traveler. Room was clean and seemed a little tired. Bathroom was nice and clean. Shower was so bad I couldn't get shampoo off my hair or soap off my body. Didn't eat at any restaurants in hotel. Check out was prompt and valets were great. Pricing was in line with other SF properties.

The property is very nice and the staff were great. It is very close to Union Square so for business, public transport access and shopping it is perfect. Lots of restaurants nearby. All the tourist stuff is about 1mile away. Chinatown/Little Italy are 30min walk. Wharfs are 50min walk. Next time, i would stay closer to the wharfs.

We spent 2 nights at the hotel. Room was a pretty standard hotel room - clean, comfortable and fine for us. We didn't eat at the hotel so can't comment on this aspect. Warning: Their parking charges are truely extortionate and it would definitely be worthwhile to do some homework before hand and find a local public car park to dump the car as you don't really need it while staying as a tourist.

We arrived on a Saturday and stayed 3 nights. I had a request in for an early arrival 2 pm check in; the room wasn't ready. I pressed the issue and they quickly found a room that was ready. The room was nice size and bed was comfortable, but the pillows were a bit small. Having stayed at other autograph Collection properties by Marriot, this hotel looked a little old with need of maintenance and we were a little disappointed by this (the lobby and the bar are beautiful, my comment applies to the rooms). Beautifully decorated hotel in the Theatre district. Our 10th floor room was absolutely enormous (two queen beds) and given that SF has many high rise buildings it had a nice partial city view including a huge and rather lovely street art mural. The hotel is really nice, the bar is great at happy hour. We found the location to be very good for our visit and the locations we were visiting in San Francisco. However, AVOID the Parking at the hotel...it is over priced and you can choose other locations close by or better yet, simply uber/lyft to the hotel, walk or uber/lyft from there to your destinations. You can do a lot of uber/lyft for the $65+ per day after taxes!!!

In my travels I found my satisfaction with a business is tied to the expectations before you arrive. This is especially true with Marriott's Autograph Collection Hotels. These hotels are often classic properties (think older) with unique flare. The Hotel Adagio fits that description perfectly. Most the rooms are smaller, as you would expect for a older downtown city hotel. But everything is clean and up-to-date. I've also found the staff to be exceptionally friendly and helpful.
