The Handlery is a fantastic spot to base yourself for a San Fran visit. it is close to the cool shopping precinct and handy to the cable cars and trams. The staff are excellent. Nothing was too much trouble. Happy to recommend it to others and will be staying there again.

We wanted a place to stay so we could have dinner at Prospect and listen to music on a Friday night. We called and reserved the KGO radio special. Considering parking is $52 a night, that was included so the room rate was very reasonable considering: * it's right smack in the heart of Union Square * King bed was super comfy (always most important on my list!) * Everyone of the staff including the Grille were super nice and friendly. The ONLY downside was I asked for a city view which was sort... Read more

We found the room very clean and comfortable . We asked for a city view room, which they informed us that there could be Road noise which we did not find a problem at all. There was a safe in the room, hanging space with two robes and an area to put makeup on. The bathroom was well equipped and very clean. This hotel is well located to cable cars just down in Powell street, you have a good Irish pub in Geary street and Union square walking distance . Breakfast was included in our deal, we had on... We stayed at The Handlery for 4 nights stopover between Hawaii and U.K. The bellman watched us struggle with 2 children and 4 suitcases - no offers of assistance! We were given an historical dble dble room which was suitable for our needs. The double beds were small and most uncomfortable. The floorboards were very creaky in our room and in all those around us. This must have been what historical meant! The wooden blinds were extremely dusty. We spoke to reception the next morning about o... Read more

This property is in a prime location -steps away from Macy's , Saks and other shopping plus two theatres just up Geary Street and of course Union Square. Being family run for years it has extra touches which makes it a cut above the usual in this city of fine hotels ,like mail posted in vintage boxes on all floors in the Heritage section of the property (and overseas friends received the mail). My room was in the older section and whilst small had everything one needs for a pleasant stay.

I arranged a small team meeting at the Handlery during the holidays and we received excellent customer service from the moment we entered the hotel. It was nice to have all our attendees pleased with their rooms and the service they received. Melanie and Laura were responsive to our needs for pricing and coordination to arrange our meeting and throughout our sessions. The Daily Grill also had very good food for our lunches. The premiere rooms were spacious and clean, the location fantastic. T... Read more

We stayed one night and location was good but the room we had on the 4th floor was damp and smelly.I called the housekeeping and he sprayed something on the floor but I told him to open the window just to let out the bad smell, it's like someone is farted.Good thing ,we only stayed for one night otherwise I'll look for another room.

Stayed here for 5 nights before heading up to the wine region. This hotel is situated in the heart of Union Square and the cable car stops very close to it. There is easy access from here to the numerous transport options in the city. We had a comfortable room in the historic section of the hotel. (I had requested a quieter room by e mail in advance of visit.) No view to speak of, just looked onto other rooms, but not an issue. We arrived at 01.00 (having taken the shared minibus from the airpor... Read more

Stayed for 4 nights for the first stop of our California road trip. Our room was big and comfortable with a balcony overlooking the street. We stayed on a B&B basis, which basically meant you had a choice of one of 3 dishes; American cooked, granola or waffle including one drink. Anything extra was at a cost ie I ordered granola and requested some toast as well, but that was extra. The hotel itself is nothing special, but where it wins in my book was its location. Right next to Union Square... Read more
