I was looking for a historic hotel, and the Beresford Arms fit the bill to a "T"! It has a lovely façade, a large lobby parlor, and is decorated to period. We arrived in the morning, expecting them to hold our bags until check-in time in the afternoon. Instead, we were offered an upgrade to an apartment, which was great! If we'd known, we could have invited some of our family to stay with us in the city. The apartment bedroom had 2 queen beds, with comfy down quilts that were like sleeping... Read more

We stayed here for 3 nights and had a great time. The location is great, less than 10 mins to union square. We flew into SF airport and got the Bart to the hotel, so easy to use. The hotel was clean and tidy and we had a wonderful room on the 17th floor. We booked a junior suite and was upgraded to a parlour suite... Massive rooms. We loved SF and this hotel was just perfect. Free continental breakfast too. The beds were so so comfy too.

Return visit to SF, we had the same room as previously. It is a noisy city so you need to expect that, the hotel itself is old but spacious rooms, we got the parlour suite. It has a Full kitchen, large fridge, stove/oven, microwave, toaster, kettle, etc, living area with pull down Murphy bed. This suite can accommodate 6 people comfortably.

We love this place. Both times we have stayed here as a family of 4, we have had excellent service and an ENORMOUS room. Seriously. Huge. This time we had 2 queen beds in a bedroom with a beautiful high ceiling, a living room/eating area with a murphy bed and a separate kitchen! We had originally booked a double and asked for a roll away for the 4th person and the management upgraded us. I love the beautiful lobby and the way everyone sits around at cocktail hour and at breakfast. You can hear m... Read more

Stayed for long weekend with 2 adult children. Overall was satisfied. Was probably a upscale hotel in its day but a little faded decor now. Check in was efficient. Staff was courteous. Single small elevator can be a wait. Free wine and cheese in the late afternoon was a nice touch. Room on 8th floor was stuffy (no AC) but comfortable with windows open. Some street noise from party goers late but not awful or unexpected. Beds are comfortable. Room had kitchenette and is probably larger than avera... Read more

Was apprehensive about hotel after reading a few poor comments on TripAdvisor. However we took their advice and asked for a quiet room, no problems at all although other guests said they had traffic and police sirens during the night. Hotel was beautiful, recently renovated, new bathroom, etc., clean, comfortable. However do not turn left when you leave hotel. Wine and chees every afternoon was great.

Me and my girlfriend booked this hotel in San Francisco as the price was good in comparison to other hotels we had seen in the area. However our expectations were exceeded once we arrived, the location was very central (only 3 blocks from Union Sq), the lobby as you go in has an old world elegance about it and the staff were very friendly. At the time of our arrival (5pm) there was complimentary wine, cheese and crackers on the go and this is a daily event between 4.30pm and 5.30pm, a lovely ... Read more

We were on the 8th floor of this hotel, and our room had no air conditioning! There was a sloping floor, which made someone fall! We could hear a lot of noise outside during the night, but lucky for me, I had earplugs. The continental breakfast was okay, and I liked the architecture, but during the night one of the men had to replace our fire alarm. (It beeped every few seconds until fixed!) It's time for considerable renovation at this hotel. In the summertime, you are going to sweat with... Read more

Great location with Union Square and shopping just a few blocks away. Receptionists....depends which gentleman you get as one is really helpful, the other two we sort weren't helpful at all. Ask for a room away from the road as it is a noisy road. On reading these other reviews, we weren't informed of coffee in the morning and the wine and cheese. No air con, rooms a bit dated but again it seems all the rooms are different.

My friends and i stayed for 3 nights in a suite. It had 2 big beds a big bathroom and a separate kitchen. It was very clean and comfortable. It is also a walking distance to union square and to the tram, underground and busses stations so it was very easy to go anywhere we want. But the room has no ac so avoid the hotel in hot seasons and the breakfast is very limited a couple croissants and some fruits and coffee so do not count on it. Overall it was a great stay and would go again.

We were in Jr. suite room # 607. It was huge, clean and a great value for its location very near Union Square. The staff were all very friendly & helpful. The continental breakfast & afternoon wine & cheese were nice bonuses for a quick breakfast and afternoon snack. However, there is a club across the street and a fire department nearby. Both were extremely loud at various times of the day & night. If noise is an issue for you, then ask for an interior room if available.

I had an "ok" stay at this hotel, but it could have been a lot better if there was a bit more detail applied to the structure. The hotel is in a fairly central location, with easy access to the heart of San Francisco. There is no direct access to public transit though, so you would need to walk for about 10 minutes to get to a bus or a train station. The in-room pantry was equipped with microwave, toaster and few necessary items. The in room wifi had very good speed, an added advantage. The hotel has a semi-Victorian look from outside. The hotel is very near to Union Square with plenty of restaurants (Asian, American, Italian, etc) around it. It is a 106 yrs old hotel which is well-maintained and I find it charming. It provides free wine and tea party everyday from 4pm to 5:30pm on top of its free breakfast. The room I stayed didn't have air-conditioning, and a fan was given.

A really nice hotel at a very central spot. Clean and comfortable. There is a cost of ~ $30 per night for parking. The soundproof is poor if you get a room on the road side. Unfortunately we were greeted by the rudest receptionist ever, Vincent. Not welcoming, not helpful and angry. The other receptionists were very polite.
