I was looking for a historic hotel, and the Beresford Arms fit the bill to a "T"! It has a lovely façade, a large lobby parlor, and is decorated to period. We arrived in the morning, expecting them to hold our bags until check-in time in the afternoon. Instead, we were offered an upgrade to an apartment, which was great! If we'd known, we could have invited some of our family to stay with us in the city. The apartment bedroom had 2 queen beds, with comfy down quilts that were like sleeping... Read more

We stayed here for 3 nights and had a great time. The location is great, less than 10 mins to union square. We flew into SF airport and got the Bart to the hotel, so easy to use. The hotel was clean and tidy and we had a wonderful room on the 17th floor. We booked a junior suite and was upgraded to a parlour suite... Massive rooms. We loved SF and this hotel was just perfect. Free continental breakfast too. The beds were so so comfy too.

lovely building, staff very welcoming, The cheese and wine in the afternoon proved a big hit! would definitely recommend it to other holiday makers. Right in the heart of the city near the cable cars. The building is full of character and very clean.

Return visit to SF, we had the same room as previously. It is a noisy city so you need to expect that, the hotel itself is old but spacious rooms, we got the parlour suite. It has a Full kitchen, large fridge, stove/oven, microwave, toaster, kettle, etc, living area with pull down Murphy bed. This suite can accommodate 6 people comfortably.

We love this place. Both times we have stayed here as a family of 4, we have had excellent service and an ENORMOUS room. Seriously. Huge. This time we had 2 queen beds in a bedroom with a beautiful high ceiling, a living room/eating area with a murphy bed and a separate kitchen! We had originally booked a double and asked for a roll away for the 4th person and the management upgraded us. I love the beautiful lobby and the way everyone sits around at cocktail hour and at breakfast. You can hear m... Read more

Stayed for long weekend with 2 adult children. Overall was satisfied. Was probably a upscale hotel in its day but a little faded decor now. Check in was efficient. Staff was courteous. Single small elevator can be a wait. Free wine and cheese in the late afternoon was a nice touch. Room on 8th floor was stuffy (no AC) but comfortable with windows open. Some street noise from party goers late but not awful or unexpected. Beds are comfortable. Room had kitchenette and is probably larger than avera... Read more

Was apprehensive about hotel after reading a few poor comments on TripAdvisor. However we took their advice and asked for a quiet room, no problems at all although other guests said they had traffic and police sirens during the night. Hotel was beautiful, recently renovated, new bathroom, etc., clean, comfortable. However do not turn left when you leave hotel. Wine and chees every afternoon was great.

Me and my girlfriend booked this hotel in San Francisco as the price was good in comparison to other hotels we had seen in the area. However our expectations were exceeded once we arrived, the location was very central (only 3 blocks from Union Sq), the lobby as you go in has an old world elegance about it and the staff were very friendly. At the time of our arrival (5pm) there was complimentary wine, cheese and crackers on the go and this is a daily event between 4.30pm and 5.30pm, a lovely ... Read more

We were on the 8th floor of this hotel, and our room had no air conditioning! There was a sloping floor, which made someone fall! We could hear a lot of noise outside during the night, but lucky for me, I had earplugs. The continental breakfast was okay, and I liked the architecture, but during the night one of the men had to replace our fire alarm. (It beeped every few seconds until fixed!) It's time for considerable renovation at this hotel. In the summertime, you are going to sweat with... Read more

We stayed in a Parlour Suite room (#507) and the rooms were absolutely huge. The bedroom had two queen sized beds which were super comfortable, pillows a plenty, wardrobe, desk, chairs...it was just a huge corner room. The living room was also huge and big enough for a 3 seater lounge and 2 armchairs plus a table and chairs for 4, a murphy bed is set into the wall, there is a very large bathroom off this and a kitchen with stove and full sized fridge. If you're getting the huge theme you're righ... Read more

Hotel is very clean, staff are very friendly and helpful. Our room was spacious and bed comfortable! Single glazed windows and your in a city so expect a little bit of noise. We had a room on the back which was reasonably quiet. No air con but didn't feel like we needed it! Well stocked and reasonably priced mini bar. They serve a light breakfast of pastries, fruit and coffee etc in the morning. And late afternoon offer cheese and wine! Lovely! Location is perfect, just a short stroll to unio... Read more

We stayed here from June 23 through June 29. The location was convenient to go around to many places in San Francisco. The only reason I did not give an excellent rating was because there were homeless right outside and sometimes there were people smoking pot.

we stayed here for 2 nights as part of our road trip - very nice hotels with lots of period features and decoration, room was a mini suite with kitchenette and jacizzi tub, great value for money for a city hotel in very good location, room rate included breakfast which is basically croissants, pastries and juice / coffee, served in the lounge opposite check-in, would stay here again for sure

Great location with Union Square and shopping just a few blocks away. Receptionists....depends which gentleman you get as one is really helpful, the other two we sort weren't helpful at all. Ask for a room away from the road as it is a noisy road. On reading these other reviews, we weren't informed of coffee in the morning and the wine and cheese. No air con, rooms a bit dated but again it seems all the rooms are different.

My friends and i stayed for 3 nights in a suite. It had 2 big beds a big bathroom and a separate kitchen. It was very clean and comfortable. It is also a walking distance to union square and to the tram, underground and busses stations so it was very easy to go anywhere we want. But the room has no ac so avoid the hotel in hot seasons and the breakfast is very limited a couple croissants and some fruits and coffee so do not count on it. Overall it was a great stay and would go again.

We were in Jr. suite room # 607. It was huge, clean and a great value for its location very near Union Square. The staff were all very friendly & helpful. The continental breakfast & afternoon wine & cheese were nice bonuses for a quick breakfast and afternoon snack. However, there is a club across the street and a fire department nearby. Both were extremely loud at various times of the day & night. If noise is an issue for you, then ask for an interior room if available.

We were pleasantly surprised with the Beresford Arms on our San Francisco trip. I found this hotel on sleeps5.com - we have a teenage boy and girl. Most hotels only have two doubles or queens. The family suite was ENORMOUS, like an apartment. All the beds were 5-star comfy, even the murphy bed. Very clean, great housekeeping. Loved the wine/cheese hour and danishes in the a.m. Much less expensive than the known hotels at Union Square. It could be a bit noisy because of the streets below; the hot... Read more

Didn't quite know what to expect and I suppose I expected the hotel to be a bit tired and I wasn't sure about the location I needn't have worried it is an easy 2 blocks from Union Square with a multitude of places to eat according to your budget and easy to get to anywhere. The hotel itself is spotless and very well kept and the historic features are lovely without compromising modern comforts. Our room was at the back so no view from the window but also no street noise which made for peaceful... Read more

An "oldy-worldy" most charming and quaint hotel in a great location, which would not be out of place in an Agatha Christie film! Long flight Sydney-San Francisco, arriving many hours before check-in time. Room was prepared immediately at no extra charge. Accommodation was amazingly spacious, with fully-equipped kitchen complete with table and chairs. Vast bathroom is a "must see" with twin basins, spa bath/shower, bidet. Most comfortable beds my daughter and I have ever slept in. It is easy to p... Read more

We stayed at Beresford Arms for 2 nights as a surprise for my hubby. Our travel agent booked the room, informing the hotel we were honeymooners but I don't think the hotel was able to offer any considerations. The room was clean and large, very old fashioned but that's the reason I picked this hotel! We stayed in 304 and had a little kitchen in our room. The bed is so comfy! Wifi was free and relatively fast. The continental breakfast is nothing flash - coffee, tea and pastries but it's enough ... Read more

Very old fashioned hotel but nice! The hotel is in a very central location..just up the road from Union Square. The hotel room was big enough for 4 people, the bathroom was a little small but other than that no complaints. We booked to have breakfast at the hotel, the breakfast was pastries, fruit and coffee in the reception area..a bit odd but was ok. They also did cheese and wine at 4:30 everyday in the reception area too. Very good value as we found out San Francisco is a really expensive cit... Read more

We were a family of 10 who stayed at this old and charming hotel for five overnights. We had 3 Jr. Suites (can recommend) on the top floor - absolutely loved the interior, large old fashioned bathrooms, great beds and little kitchen. The morning quick coffee/buns/fruit and afternoon wine/cheese in the lobby were a great hit. The hotel is of course also centrally located, which comes some city noise, and is within walking distance of many attractions. We give this hotel 4.5 stars and can warmly r... Read more

The hotel itself is very grand, charming and welcoming. Upon arrival, we were offered an upgrade to an amazing junior suite, which was a very nice surprise. The suite was very well furnished, clean and spacious, like an apartment. Throughout our stay we slept very well, and the staff were helpful. Breakfast was very tasty and the complimentary Cheese/Wine offered from 15:30 was a great touch. The location is great too, only a leisurely 5-10 walk to the heart of Union Square

We enjoyed staying in Beresford Arms. Great location, nice staff, we stayed with our 4 kids into two rooms and could check in early in one room. The family room could have easily housed all of us, but the connecting room made it even more spacious. Breakfast is basic, but free!

I had an "ok" stay at this hotel, but it could have been a lot better if there was a bit more detail applied to the structure. The hotel is in a fairly central location, with easy access to the heart of San Francisco. There is no direct access to public transit though, so you would need to walk for about 10 minutes to get to a bus or a train station. The hotel it self could be described as rustic at best, with furniture dating to the early 1900. From the looks of it, the room look like they ha... Read more

Stayed here for 4 nights in June on our first visit to San Francisco. Grand old style hotel in a great location just 5/10 minutes walk to Union Square. Room on 8th floor was spacious and very clean, with 2 double beds and a large bathroom. Continental breakfast was fine and afternoon happy hour, complimentary wine and cheese, was a good touch. Checking in and out was efficient and free safety deposit box was useful. Very friendly staff, would definitely recommend.
