Wow. The US Grant hotel was exceptional. Stayed for 5 nights in May and it was great. Staff were polite, professional, efficient. Room - upgraded to a view room. 1011. Good roomy. Comfortable. Only nitpick thing is the pillows were way to soft. Asked for firm and got one more soft pillow. Otherwise great stay. Bathroom - huge! Great shower pressure. Conference rooms on the second floor were nice. $45 - valet. No self park

Would recommend the US Grant for the service and overall ambiance of this historic old building. The building is gorgeous and the room service food quite good. Overall, we had a great stay - but I would recommend asking for a room NOT off of the main elevator lobby. We had a room that opened immediately next to the elevators. It ends up being quite loud with people talking on their phone waiting for the elevator and such.

There are many things I now expect in a hotel - free bottled water, free wifi, good breakfast and a nice gym. I usually reserve a hotel that is a member of the American Express Fine Hotel and Resort as I am used to its high standards and benefits. I was in San Diego for a conference and chose to stay at the US Grant Hotel instead of the many hotels near the Convention Center. What I was giving up in proximity, I thought I would gain in a higher quality hotel. The receptionist was friendly ... Read more

At the centre of Gaslamp quarter so ideal for stepping out. Very pleasant and helpful staff. Rooms have more character than larger generic hotels. Has all the facilities one would need. Whilst this Hotel cannot be faulted I think next time I would stay in a more intimate residence. This is no reflection on the hotel , just personal preference.

We stayed at the Grant one night only (5/14) because we were down for the Bill Joel Concert at Petco. Things were pretty busy in the Gaslamp district. Upon check in at 3:30PM (check in time is 3PM) we were informed our room was still being prepped. We were immediately offered a $50 credit to use as we see fit with the suggestion that we might like a cocktail or snack. We headed over to the lovely Bar and enjoyed a couple of good cocktails. Stayed at US Grant returning to US from long international flight. Hotel management and staff could not have been more efficient or provided any better service. Hotel arranged for midnight pick up at San Diego airport and had bell and desk staff on duty when we arrived very early the next morning. The US Grant is right downtown at one end of Gaslamp Quarter, easy walk to all the great restaurants on the strip. Our room overlooking the park at the front of the hotel gave us a great view of the park and the mall across the way as well as the bay in the distance. If you want to avoid the noise of the late-night revelers, though, ask for a room on the other side of the hotel. Easy parking here if you're driving in (a little steep on the price, but the valet service was perfect). Be sure to di... Read more

We loved staying at the US Grant. Such a neat hotel with a cool history! An awesome boutique hotel. The location was good (about 15 minute walk to the water) and close to lots of pubs and bars. There were closer hotels to the water (like the W) but the charm and history of the hotel lured me in and we were not disappointed. The staff was friendly but for the most part we were eating and drinking outside the hotel. Comfortable bed, small but charming room. Lots of fun and a neat hotel! If you are... Read more

I loved this hotel for so many reasons (decor, amenities, room comforts, etc.) and I only have one major complaint: parking is $45/night. The hotel and room itself were lovely and what you'd expect from a high end hotel. The service was impeccable and everyone seemed happy to be there, even the housekeeping service. Pros: Turn down service, free bottled water, plenty of pillows and thick, plush towels, robes, and slippers in the room, beautiful lobby and restaurant, helpful staff, great morni... Read more

My wife and I were here on a business trip (with company paying for it), and we were booked into one of their suites in the "07" fourth floor. So let me start by saying that we were already in a terrifically luxurious room, which we discovered was also incredibly expensive!! But let me add that some others in our company were booked in standard rooms, and I visited several in the course of our stay and was thoroughly impressed with all of them. A well-run hotel, featuring attentive and friendly staff from the reception & concierge through to house-keeping. The lobby harks back to old-world charm and the rooms are beautifully decorated. Certainly worth staying in, or returning to! Watch out: from mid-June 2016 for 2 months, they are remodelling the lobby.

Stayed here for 4 days during a trip to San Diego. Amazing service, beautiful rooms - truly a piece of history. The windows do not open even though they are what appear to be the original double- hung windows. The air conditioner in the room does not go below 65 degrees and goes off and on all night. There are no coffee makers in any rooms. One was brought to our room (took 20 minutes), it didn't work, had to bring in another one. I was expecting a lot, considering the 5-star rating and price (about $400 for a Saturday night in a standard room). However, it is way overpriced, and you will also pay an additional $45 per day for valet parking (there is no other option). While it is a pet-friendly hotel, it costs $150 per night to bring your 4-legged friend, so sadly, my puppy stayed home with a family member. The US Grant was an amazing experience because of the history and location of the hotel. you could truly feel the mid 1900's charm because of the façade and music in their dining venue. I really hope they keep up the old school appeal and colors in the rooms, but they desperately need new beds. A great way to visit San Diego!

I was excited about staying in this luxurious historic hotel. On arrival after 3:00 PM, I was told that the hotel was over "committed" to too many late checkouts and it wasn't clear when a room would be available. I asked for any upgrades and was told that they were fully "committed". I was annoyed because their actual commitment was to me, a paying customer, who was given a check in time of 3:00 PM. I have been to many "lower quality" hotels where I am accommodated on arrival even before of... Read more

We enjoyed a stay at the US Grant on a 18 day road trip of California. Everything about the US Grant exudes history, elegance and just the right amount of luxury you do not feel over indulgent (if you ever feel guilty about that, haha). As SPG Platinum members we were upgraded to a very large room that was perfect. The bed was excellent and the bathroom was day lit. That is a rare hotel feature. I would love to return if back in San Diego.

I stayed 2 nights in a signature suite, one with my maid of honor the night before my wedding, and the 2nd with my new husband on our wedding night. I had made the reservation quite a long time in advance and had called on 3 separate occasions to make sure that there would be a fridge in the room. Each time, the person on the phone confirmed a fridge would be provided. I also noted that we were staying there for my wedding night and that I wanted the fridge in order to provide breakfast items... Read more

Despite arriving during a busy weekend with few rooms available ( our room booked long before our arrival ), we were stunned by what we observed in our Landmark Suite. The ivory fabric loveseat in the living area was stained which appeared to be lipstick residue as well as beverage spills. There was also a large darkened stain on the carpet just beyond entering the room. The next morning while brewing coffee from the room's coffee machine we observed a malfunction resulting in a small flood in... Read more

Overpriced for not good service. There's not free parking, they weren't helpful with our incoming mail, they'd forget simple things we asked for like a mini fridge & had to ask multiple times, the room was beautiful, but it didn't feel like there was anything fun to do with the location. Staying on the beach is much nicer or something more affordable best thing is it's close to Horton mall & a beautifully historic building.

We stayed here back in February of this year and the place was great. Very short walk to the theater. However, now (6 months later) I had a charge show up on my credit card (approximately the same as the nightly rate 6 months ago). I called the hotel twice, but in accounting "all representatives are assisting other customers." I left messages and have not heard from them. At a conference once I got my keys they didn't work in the elevator but worked in my room. So people helped me get to my floor and I could access my room. The staff at the front desk did treat me like "I" was the problem but again, my key worked in my door but not the elevator. Lastly they switched my keys then I could not get into the room. A friend and I stayed here for a bachelor party in early Summer 2016 (the rowdy guys stayed at a cheaper hotel nearby). We were given a great room on a high floor overlooking the Gaslamp Quarter. However, necessary updates have been done to it to give it more of a chic boutique look. Staff was very efficient and polite, but for the most part they... Read more

This is far from a Luxury hotel. The elevators are old, and take 15 minutes to call. DO NOT GET ON THE 11th FLOOR - there is only 1 elevator that goes there, and it will take over 15 minutes. My room smelled of an old man's closet. It was DISGUSTING. I had to leave on the spot. I would not recommend this at all!

Even though I paid $1100 for three nights. The renovation is cheap, tacky chandeliers, bad carpet, real disappointment. It's the tantamount to Holiday inn. Except you get a good free breakfast.
