"We booked this room on Easter weekend and it was clearly the biggest bang for the buck. The rooms are newly renovated with modern amenities, super clean and comfortable. The only downside is the room was small for two people, and the windows (obviously for safety) were sealed. They do offer larger suites though. The staff was very accommodating, and it's cool that they'll provide bicycles on first-come basis. It's literally 4 blocks from all the action at the gas lamp district, and we even walked to Little Italy form there. Great hotel."

"I took a trip for my birthday to San Diego and booked the Sofia Hotel. This was one of the best trip that I had ever taken. The hotel was very nice and in a great location. The staff in the hotel and the restaurant (Currant) were extremely friendly and very helpful. They made me feel as if they were celebrating my birthday with me and gave excellent suggestions on activities for me which were very inexpensive. My room was very comfy, cozy and clean with an unique layout. The designs within the hotel were beautiful. The Sofia Hotel is located downtown in an excellent location because I could walk to all of the beautiful places that I wanted to see such as the GasLamp District, Seaport Village, the House of Blues, etc. Everything was great and I have no problems with returning to this hotel."

"This hotel was fantastic. Old historic charm with the old dark lobby and small elevators, which was great. We stayed in a single (queen) room. The room was very small, but we didn't mind because it was absolutely beautiful. Great views of the city. Wonderful amenities (2 complimentary bottles of water, upscale brand toiletries, complimentary morning walk through the gaslamp quarter). The Currant Brasserie restaurant connected to the hotel was some of the best food i've ever had. Don't pass it up! Great happy hour specials. This hotel is also located near the heart of the Gaslamp Quarter and also Horton Plaza (shopping center). Also a quick walk to the harbor. Staying here made me really miss city living. The staff was also very nice. Only downside - parking was 30 (with or without valet), but can be expected for a downtown hotel. We will be back!!"

"The Sofia Hotel is walking distance from a lot of the restaurants and bars in Gas lamp. Although the bathroom was very small and I didn't like the sink as part of the room, it was clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Their valet service is really fast and the guys are really nice. The restaurant, Currant, in the hotel is great. We ate there for dinner and breakfast. Reasonably priced and good food for the convenience."

"First off, let me state that I work in the hotel industry, and I'm very particular about where I stay when I travel. The Sofia was hands down one of the cleanest, most beautiful hotels I've ever stayed. When we arrived we were upgraded to a queen city view suite, and it was amazing! The location of the hotel is ideal to walk to the best attractions and restaurants in san Diego. You must take advantage of the bikes they rent out at least once during your stay, what a great amenity!

The staff was incredibly polite and always had a smile their face. The cleaning crew was fantastic. I swear you could have eaten off of the floor in our room, it was so clean!

I took advantage of the gym daily which had all of the equipment I needed plus bottles of water and towels. I was on was on east coast time, so when I made it down in the morning it was completely empty and was only me.

The restaurant downstairs has a great happy hour and excellent breakfast! I would make it a point to get there at least once, plus it's super convenient if you don't want to go too far.

My only complaint, is that the lighting in the rooms is quite dim, and we could never figure out which switch was for which light and that the Internet wasn't the greatest and spotty at times.

Overall, amazing stay and we will be back! Thank you for such a lovely trip!"

"The location was very convenient. Be sure to add $30 to your daily rate if you have a car - parking is not cheap. We had a clean room - however the noise level of the hotel is very high. The bed is very comfortable for 2 people (myself 6 feet tall, she is 5'4' tall). There is a tempur-pedic pillow top, but don't expect a good night of sleep if anyone is on the same floor as you. We were awaken numerous times by loud guests and slamming doors. Don't plan to watch TV or HBO movies - the reception on the television is very poor. The bathroom doesn't really have a door on it - more a lightly frosted sliding glass - fine for us, but if you are traveling with someone other than a loved one, be careful."

"Felt like being a guest in someone's home - decor and furnishings welcoming and comfortable. Great to have a printer and fast internet in the lobby buisness centre. Good location, lovely linen and pillows. Room small for two people and 1/2 door on the shower allowed water to flow onto the bathroom floor. However would stay again."

"We spent four days in San Diego at the Sofia and loved it! It was a bit noisy at night because of an ambulance or two but you're going to get this in any downtown property. The staff was very helpful and friendly and the location is perfect. Close proximity to hundreds of restaurants, shopping, Petco Park, Seaside Village, etc made all of these an easy walk. Do yourself a favor and book a night or two!"

"Had a very quick trip to look at real estate in the San Diego area. My agent's office was very close to The Sofia Hotel so it was convenient. Had only 2 nights, but thought the accommodations were perfect. Very quiet (M & T), helpful front desk staff, and concierge gave me referrals to 2 great breakfast places. Very comfortable bed & quilts. Room was small but that was ok for my stay. Poor lighting inside room...but it was clean and a great place for my trip. Would return again."

"Very comfortable historic hotel with a great restaurant. Very convenient to Horton Plaza, the Federal building and the Sheriff station. A bit of a walk to the convention center and the Gaslamp district. Be ready to pay a lot for parking, there are not many options if any nearby for overnight stays."

"Stayed at the Sophia for our first trip to San Diego and 30 min after arriving realized this was the best hotel and location!!!! we parked and never had to drive. A short walk down to harbor one direction and a few blocks to gaslamp the other. The hotel was clean and nice. Rooms were a little small but was to be expected from an old building refurbed. The best place to be we will stay here next travel to the area. Saturday night the best place to have cocktails is the gaslamp tavern sidewalk bar. Fun Times!"
