initial impression - disappointing as not actually in San Diego and on Sunday night the bar is closed and even residents can't get a drink - surely they could change this??? So not a great start but then the next day it came alive and we had a lovely dinner and drinks in a really buzzy place. The rooms are very nice and clean and well -refurbed. We thought the fish in bowls a little unnecessary.

This was the cleanest hotel I have stayed at in long time. David provided the friendliest and best service. He went out of his way to carry my bags to the second story, call me a Green cab, and overall was very friendly and accommodating. Very hip and groovy hotel!

Stayed here a fortnight ago on arrival in USA. Nice cool vibe to place as we arrived. Great bar great welcome. It is a old style motel and rooms are not big and around small pool with movies screened above it. The set up is good and we had great drinks service and food. Pool area good with funky stuff and nice food tables all around. Good bar staff good drinks and happy hours and cheap fabulous tacos all night(2 for 5 Dollars great!) Our room was nice for the price. Service is pretty minimal at the later hours. We arrived on a Tuesday night around 10:30PM and there was no one at the front desk. Asked the bartender where am I supposed to check in, and the front desk guy came around to check us in. Realized they had free wifi at around midnight, called the front desk for the password, no answer. Went outside to look for someone, noone to be found. I spent two nights at The Pearl and enjoyed it thoroughly. I loved the platform bed. I loved Wolfgang the fish being there; his fishbowl on the wall. The bathroom was great. There was an ironing board and iron as well as a blow dryer. Great coffee was in the lounge in the morning. Everyone I dealt with were extremely friendly; especially David who helped me find a T-shirt that fit! I definitely recommend The Pearl and will stay there again when in San Diego.

Quick 1 night stay from LA, went for my anniversary and the hotel made it extra special. We had a romantic set-up in one of the "Gem" rooms that has mirrored ceilings for those couples looking for a extra fun night. David got us in the room early and helped us take our baggage's to the room, he got us a couple of coffee's (which are delicious). Later, David made us reservations for the restaurant that night and made sure we were set up with a couple of drinks on the house. The room was a bit on ... Read more

The Pearl was our first stop on an 11-day California adventure. We'd never been to California before so we weren't sure what to expect; The Pearl absolutely exceeded our expectations!!! First of all, the hotel is nothing short of ADORABLE. The property is small but that's what made it so cute. The room was clean and smelled amazing. I loved the hotel, and was going to give 5 stars. However, I was troubled by the decision to keep a Siamese Fighting Fish in a small , undecorated bowl halfway up the wall of the room.
