deteriorated, dirty, stained, outdated rooms. No amenities. Currently undergoing loud remodel. Avoid at all costs until remodel is complete. The only good thing about this hotel is the location, which is within walking distance of the gaslamp quarter.

front desk desk staff were so rude. So rude that despite the room being clean and location good etc I'll NEVER stay at Declan Suites. I felt like I was asking a favor for them to check me in. I am a paying customer. Where is the customer service? Hospitality?

It is fine. The issue was we could not see seaside landscape. Room was small and there was no coffee maker in our room. But attitude of staff was excellent and I could relax during hotel stay overall.

The hotel was clean. The staff was friendly and the rooms were spacious. The location was not near most of the sights. I would have liked the hotel better if the location was near the Gas Lamp district or any other area. The area was not convenient.

I recently shared a twin room with a colleague at the Declan Suites. It was very convenient for access to the convention centre. I thought the breakfast was pricey and was simple. Staff were helpful and polite.

Really clean and great hotel. I wish the pool, spa and restaurant was open, but it was close to gaslamp. I just ubered everywhere. Parking was expensive but there is a lot across the street that is only $20 for one night. It was a great room overall.

Wonderful deal for a well kept, clean and quiet suite. The worst part of hotel was the parking, everything else was terrific. We will be coming back when the pool remodel is finished. This is the place to stay!

There were renovations going on so no amenities were available. No pool, no restaurant, nothing. I was there for a wedding so for convenience of coordinating with the wedding party I had to book there. Nothing was offered to make up for the lack of amenities. No deal on the price, no upgrade, no free breakfast, no fast Internet upgrade. The free guest Internet was very slow. You could pay for faster service... The hallways smelled musty and wet. The carpet looked wet or moist in some spots. May... Read more

Would not return to this hotel, the place was lacking. Both pool and gym were not available. Hotel room pullout couch was horrible. No extra pillows or blankets were given. Everyday we had to ask for additional towels, because room service took the additional towel back and their were 3 people staying. Tv in the bedroom wouldn't turn on. Very unsatisfactory. No fridgetator, or complimenty breakfast.

The hotel is in good location, just outside the hustle and bustle. The room was outdated and was certainly in need of renovations which the whole property was going through at the time of our visit. It was clean, however the towels were probably in worse shape than any I've ever seen in a hotel. There were 0 amenities in the room other than the TV and the iron and ironing board. Wifi was spotty and the Macs at the front desk were the slowest computers I've seen since AOL days.

I really enjoyed my stay at the Declan Suites. My suite was breath taking on the 17th floor! After a hotter than average day my room was icy and the view was dynamite. I loved the layout, pillows, storage and lighting. My concierge was beautiful and fun. I could hear doors slamming in the morning. The toilet and bathtub intially didn't work (probably due to cleaning/no one using them).

better cleanliness would be great because for the value of the room and repetition declan holds in hotel industry more is expected. And overall prepaidiness of the staff and regular repars/maintenance would save the hotel time and make it more money without compromising both parties, the customers and the hotel management as well.

It's centrally located, gaslamp is within walking distance. Tons of restaurants all around. We took a stroll and ended up in little Italy which was about a 10min walk. The room was very spacious and clean! Highly recommend this hotel.

I booked through the Hotel Tonight app and it didn't say that the hotel was under construction. I was teased with nice pictures of a pool and fitness center, but when I arrived found out that none of the amenities were available due to renovations. The Declan's website does mention the construction, so maybe that's more of an issue on Hotel Tonight's end. My only real complaints with the hotel: 1) I was texted asking to review Declan so far and that I could reply to the number if I needed anyt... Read more

Located close to the main Gaslamp district. Walking distance to all the basic amenities around. Maintained property with good spacious rooms & with attached Sofa room. Was under renovation when we stayed, Hence couldn't access restaurant, gym, pool and other services. But for the price i would say best deal in San diego downtown.

There was a musky, old smell to the room when you first enter the room. The blankets especially on the sofa bed does not appear freshly clean. However the location of the hotel suited my family needs. I was also, mislead that there would be free breakfast in the mornings by one of the staff. I thought that would have been great since there was no pool to swim in due to renovations. 3 out 5.

I stayed at the Declan Suites in June 2016 for work as it was a conference sponsored hotel. Staff was very friendly and helpful, however the rooms could have been better. The whole room had a very outdated look and feel with built in dressers and old French doors. 2 of the sliding doors in my room did not slide freely on the tracks and often got stuck and were difficult to manage. The gym was closed and there was no restaurant/bar on site. I believe the hotel was undergoing an upgrade to become... Read more

Don't let ad fool you. About 2-3 years ago me & family stayed in this hotel and after saw their website we decided to stay again on June 2016. But nothing has changed : no swimming pool, no in-house bar & restaurant, no in-room microwave & refrigerator, no wifi, no concierge, and old furnitures. Next time we rather back to Hilton.

Our room smelled like rotten milk and there is a really loud buzzing. We told the staff and they took us to look at other rooms but the other rooms smelled twice as bad and the buzzing was way louder. Granted we paid a little less money I think as the pool / bar / restaurant were closed for refurbishments, however the rooms were incredible and so spacious. Our view overlooked some of San Diego and some of the airport so we got to see all of the planes coming into the city. The hotel was only around a 10-15 minute walk from the gaslamp quarter so I think was very good location. Overall we thought the hotel was fantastic and would happily go back again :)

This property was recently acquired by Marriott and is in the process of being renovated and converted to a time-share hotel, so I was not surprised that there was nothing charming or special about this hotel. While I suspect this venue will be significantly upgraded with the conversion to time-share, I doubt that there will be change for the dozens of homeless folks lining 8th Street on the way to the Gaslamp District, Petco Park, and the convention center. I did not like this building when I stayed her as a Marriott hotel and i like it less now.. To pay $35.00/day parking to drive up 11 floors with low ceilings and sharp turns is not a necessity for a vacation! If you insist on staying here pay the extra $5.00 a day and use valet. I would hold off staying here at least until the reconstruction is completed as it gets fairly noisy at 7:00am.; there appears to be more workman here then there are quests. The remodeled floors are beautiful! Great view and lots of space. The bathrooms are huge! The bar/lounge leaves much to be desired. Food menu is limited and overpriced. No room service and quite honestly you'll do better hitting an overpriced restaurant on 5th street. Parking is also high at $40, just $5 more than self parking.

I've stayed here about a dozen times back when it was called the Declan or something something. The location is good and close to a lot of fun stuff in downtown San Diego. The value for the place was excellent as my room was very large and had a nice view. The rooms could probably use some new wallpaper and paint but otherwise was well maintained. Went as part of Marriott Vacation Club Sales Package. Put in room that was not renovated. TV didn't work. Phone rang at least ten times during the night. Pull out sofa had springs coming up. Had to fight to finally be moved. Would not move us to a better room. Finally had to be relocated to another hotel. Not Marriott standards at all. Staff at hotel was apologetic but said their hands were tied. Will never again look at a Marriott Sales Package.

The location is good, walkable distance to Babola Park (we scootered, otherwise, it will a long walk); easy walk to gas lamp district; Little Italy and USS Midway. The room is nicely decorated. If you are not staying in the remodeled portion of the hotel, which isn't much, be fore warned! It is like a bad movie, it doesn't get any better the longer you wait thinking something will change. This hotel needs a lot of help. The room was small and looked like it was built in the 70's. The plumbing was old so the fixtures would make noise all night, and the price was not that good. It's not in the heart of downtown either so it's a long walk to things.
