We stayed there for a Billy Joel concert at Petco Park. Easy valet car service. Convenient check in. Close to Petco. Fun roof to hang out.

I have stayed in a lot of older hotels, some with great character (Renaissance Cleveland) , some not so good. This hotel having a long history and older rooms, still has a classy feel, and some unique features. The location is perfect for walking around the entire Gas Lamp district, 10 minute walk to the convention center, and clean rooms. I stayed in the St. James Suite, very unique with a full kitchen, bar, and roof top access for a nice cigar lounge. The century old elevator takes some gettin... Read more

If you appreciate a historical hotel this is a great one. The elevator is a 100 years old. It still works well but has a gate you have to pull to open. It could be difficult with lots of luggage. Our room was a smaller one but very clean and convenient. I actually liked the fact the sink is in the main bedroom and the shower and toilet are in the bathroom. The very top of the hotel is open to everyone to bring your own refreshments and enjoy a fantastic view of San Diego. The walls are thin but ... Read more

The personnel at this hotel are outstanding! You couldn't ask for nicer, more helpful and cheerful group. The bed was very comfortable, but oh those darn pillows. This was my only complaint, along with the vintage elevator.

We loved staying here. It was in a perfect location and very historic. We took the train from Oceanside and walked everywhere once we arrived. It saved on the parking fees and everything we wanted to do was in walking distance. There is a shuttle from the hotel if you call ahead of time and they will also take you back to the Santa Fe Depot. Ian and Cydney were wonderful front desk personnel. They were friendly and helpful and we enjoyed talking with them. Great customer service! We can'... Read more

Was in San Diego from 27-27th May 2016 and had a wonderful stay. I stayed in a 2 bedroom suite and it was great. The room was clean and the bathroom quite spacious. The room had 3 televisions and 2 bedrooms spread away from each other. The hotel is in a great location in the Gas Lamp Quarters. Just one block away from 5th St and all the bars and restaurants. It's located on the same street as Balboa Park and the San Diego Zoo. I couldn't believe how close to the airport it was either. The st... Read more

so we went for a relaxing memorial day week end away, and this hotel was the wrong choice, we used our wyndham rewards, asked for the highest floor available , and received a postage stamp sized room on the first floor with a giant restaurant vent running up the wall that sounded like an aircraft landing all night long, beer cans and bottles lined the stair case railing to the second floor, went to the rooftop for the view only to be driven back down from the vulgar music being played by another... We stayed for a one day layover on our way to Hawaii. The staff was great (fun, pleasant and polite). The hotel was built in the early 1900's - boasted the fastest elevator(s) at the time - but don't be in a hurry for getting floor to floor -LOL. The building is well kept and clean. I would definitely stay here again next time in San Diego. Cheers from Pennsylvania

This hotel is in the middle of downtown and it is perfect if you are going out in the gaslamp area by yourself. My room was very small with a queen bed and small bathroom that had a small shower and the sink was in tge room. The sound from air vents or fans coming from other buildings behind the hotel was too loud and cracking sound from the AC was loud and annoying. You could hear everything from a busy downtown streets. The elevators are the original 1913 elevator that takes forever and hard t... Read more

This is the second time I stay at this hotel. Love the staff and location. Everyone is very accommodating. Only downfall is there is no pool. Other than that, it's a great hotel.

Enjoyed this historic hotel close to all the action in the Gaslamp district. Very cool feel, comfortable beds, well lit rooms with plenty of outlets and necessities, and helpful staff. Yes it is noisy, but they give tips on masking the noise and provide earplugs. It is pretty clean for being so old, although it could use renovations. It's right next to Brian's 24 diner that has great food and drinks at good prices. My only real complaint is guest safety when opening both elevator doors. It is ve... Read more

My wife and I stayed there to run the marathon, see a ball game and tour the town. The Ramada was the best bargain hotel in downtown. We had a room on the 8th floor which meant riding the goofy elevators - historic. Our room was like a suite with 2 queen beds - historic. All amenities were fine: cleanliness, beds, towels, AC, spacious lobby and friendly folks working there. Breakfast one morning in the hotel restaurant was good I'd be happy to go back

We spent two nights at this hotel (Thursday and Friday) and had a great experience. We were up on the 5th floor and did not experience any noise from outside. The rooms are small and cozy and the bathroom is full sized. The front desk associate, Ian, was very accommodating and helped us set up transportation to the airport on Saturday and let us stow our luggage for the afternoon after checkout until our plane in the evening. Great experience at this hotel! It's right in the heart of the Gasl... Read more

Good central location in the gaslamp district with easy access getting around the city without using a car. Rooftop views of the city were enjoyable as well as the historical elevator which was an interesting feature. Nice staff. Very loud on the street at 2 am when the bars close, especially when there's special events.

This was a super place to stay while in San Diego. The entire staff was helpful, friendly, efficient and all of the above. We have stayed in many hotels and this ranks high on our "go back to" list. The room was adequate and clean. Would have liked a second chair to relax in but it wasn't a huge issue for us. The shower was a bit tight, but it got the job done. Clean, friendly and accommodating trump shower size or furniture for us.This will be a repeat I loved the ambience of the whole place... Read more

Great spot to hang in downtown! Close to everything, airport shuttle, friendly staff. Brian's 24 restaurant is the real deal and bring an appetite because the servings are huge. Old school elevator gives it a real sense of the early 1900s.

Cons: Room is very small, air cond. is extremely noisy, which would explain why they provide ear plugs. Toiletries were not kept in good supply, had to request shampoo and TP on a couple occasions. Historic antique elevator, while charming and entertaining, is difficult to manoeuvre. One needs to hold open heavy door and simultaneously slide open spring loaded cage door all while trying to wrestle luggage into or out of elevator. Hard for an average person, almost impossible for the elderly. ... Read more

This hotel is centrally located in Gas Lamp and is where i like to stay if the Marriott is unavailable or if I'm on a budget. The hotel it's self is nothing special, the rooms are old and small, the whole hotel is quite old, but not without it's charm. Besides the great location, this hotel's claim to fame is the roof. The roof top has tables and is open til midnight. It's a great place to chill and drink and take in the city. Also, it can turn in to a pretty raging party on the right night. Nex... Read more

The hotel located in the Gas Lamp entertainment district and has some old world charm but the elevators are inconvenient. There are only two small elevators which can only fit a 2-3 people with their luggage.Housekeeping needs use a better daily checklist to clear debris from common areas (stairwell, ice vending areas, etc.). Otherwise, the employees were very nice and accommodating. The panoramic view from the rooftop is a very nice end to the day. Microwaves and small refrigerators are extra a... Read more

The Gaslamp District is a very vibrant area of San Diego that comes alive at night. Which isn't necessarily a good thing if you are a light sleeper! The Ramada is in a great location for those late night revellers, but maybe not best placed for those looking for a good night sleep or those with young kids - unless you score a quieter room. We were fortunate that our request for a quieter room was acknowledged. We had room 622, in the back corner of the hotel with only one adjoining neighbour. Th... Read more

The long wait for the 1915 elevator was a bit inconvenient being that we were anxious to get settled in our room and get ready to go out to dinner. We ended up walking the five flights of stairs. Also, the rooftop terrace hours should be extended. We weren't able to see it since we were out walking around the Gaslamp past 12am. The valet parking attendant was in no hurry to get our car when we checked out. He walked very slow down the street, we waited at least fifteen minutes for him to return.... Read more

This hotel is in a really convenient location. It is old, but old enough that it is historic - the elevators are still the original ones. There were warnings in the room about the noise outside at night, but I didn't hear it at all. The best thing about this hotel is the views of San Diego from the roof - definitely worth a visit! The hotel staff are friendly, and happy to organise airport pickup and dropoff.

It feels like we're in the Titanic rooms, my kid said when looking at her room. They tried to make good use of the space but we had a queen size bed that took up most of the room. Neat place but I prefer the more modern hotels breathing room. Still a very pretty place and great restaurant next door and short walk to the ball park which is why we went.

Location, location, location! That's what you're paying for. This is an old hotel that is fairly well maintained, but clearly on a limited budget and not fully modernized. If you stay during ComicCon, like we did, you could pay $300 to $500+ per night. However, it's clean, safe, the staff is excellent, the valet parking is $24/night, and the location is the Gaslamp district, well within walking distance of the San Diego Convention Center. The room was tiny, but functional... we weren't there t... Read more
