Porto Vista was just fine for what my friend and I needed. We were running the Half Marathon and just needed a place to sleep in and shower in after the race. The rooms aren't anything to boast about; the hotel is definitely a motel converted into a hotel. Rooms and bathrooms are a bit dated, but there isn't wall paper peeling off of the walls or anything. We didn't have any super negative experiences, as well as any super positive experiences. We did grab appetizers at the in house restaurant a... Read more

I just completed a 6 day stay as part of a 17 person reunion. Our rooms were comfortable and provided all the basics. The restaurant with a bay view and some outdoor seating was a pleasant and convenient location for the tasty hot breakfast provided with the room and for daily happy hour. The hotel is in a good location - one street over from the main street in Little Italy that has a number of good restaurants and stores - from pizza and frozen yogurt to more upscale restaurants. We enjoyed our stay at Porto Vista. I found the hotel when on booking.com. The price was good for the Saturday night of July 4th weekend and close to the hotel my mom booked so I decided to try it. I booked a queen room and even though the hotel was sold out we got upgraded to a fifth floor suite with ocean view patio at no charge. It worked out perfect as it was my little sisters 21st bday so some of my family came over to have appetizers and drinks at the Glass Door restaurant at the hotel. We... Read more

The redeeming qualities of this establishment 1. Value for $ 2. Location Other than that, every other service/amenity/cleanliness ranged from mediocre to substandard. I would have rated my stay much lower, but the location was sublime, and for what we paid, we couldn't complain too much.

We stayed here only because of last minute choice as per SD travel. + cleanliness and location. - bfast sucked for me as a vegan and for my kid and spouse cause they lacked variety... The worst experience was parking, as the hotel had the highest per night rates in the area and we felt miserable cruising around the quarter for better options every night/.

Property is clean, right off little Italy so plenty to walk to. Nice shuttle also to drop you at local points of interest. Bed was terrible, air conditioning was so loud. Room was clean, parking valet staff truly wonderful for assisting with luggage and car, making suggestions of places to eat. breakfast in restaurant upstairs was middle of the road. Stay Wasn't awful but wasn't great, for the price with the family probably would not go back.

The hotel staff was friendly and helpful. The location was great. However the room was a bit dated and the bathrooms are not very well set up- no counter to place toiletries. The cost of the room is a bit much for what you get. The free breakfast and parking was a deal (thank you AAA). The breakfast was on the cold side (eggs sat out for a long time).

It is mid-class hotel a best. In fact, it's more like a motel. Everything is a little below average. The pricing during Comic Con obnoxious if rooms were at high demand. The best things about the Porto Vista are its location in Little Italy and the view from the roof top.

We stayed 2 nights too many. Website is very nice, main lobby reasonably attractive, anywhere past that point is horrible. The hallways have not been mopped for weeks it seems, as evidenced by various stains of dubious origin on the paint. The hotel has a good location (little Italy) and a very nice breakfast room (with a lovely view on the 4th floor). Rooms are clean but small and super damp. When we entered the room it was icy, the floor was freezing as well. The room remains dank whatever you do. If your neighbor takes a shower the noise keeps you awake. I drove to San Diego on my way from Vegas to LA just to see the zoo, which was great by the way. I found this hotel which looked nice from the pictures and appeared to have some decent reviews. My experience was not a great one which started with being told off by the valet at the hotel for parking myself, which I I then had to drive back round to the front of the hotel for him to then go and park it in the same place. The next stop was reception where the lady who checked us in seemed preoccu... Read more

The location in Little Italy is perfect. The staff is helpful and friendly. The have a free shuttle to/from the airport and Gas Lamp Qtr. You can walk to great restaurants, bars and breweries (like Ballast Point). The 'trolley' (light rail) is a two block walk. The rooms are just okay. It's sort of like an old Howard Johnson where most rooms have outside entrances. But, it feels pretty safe. The restaurant has a nice view of the bay, and there is a roof-top open-air deck - which is nice for wa... Read more

Stayed here for a conference at the Convention Centre. Was surprised by the average quality of the hotel even though it was on the conference list. The ground floor room was small and old-style. It looked out on a nearly completely enclosed concrete car park with all sorts of supplies and rubbish stacked up against the opposite wall. If room service forgets to replace something you used (and they did) you have to go and get it from reception yourself. This is more an average motel than an upmar... Read more

This hotel is fine, but don't expect a stellar experience. The location is the best aspect (Little Italy) - but because of it the valet parking fee ($25/night) is quite high. The rooms were ok - we were somewhat disturbed by the single piece of artwork (looked like a bleeding person; sorry not our style!) and there should be more storage for toiletries in the bathroom. The breakfast was ok - scrambled eggs (sometimes cold), bacon or sausage, and salty pan-fried potatoes. The staff (everyone)... Read more

Don't stay there --.the staff are cold & indifferent. Rooms are small (we expected that)!& dark No video surveillance above the lobby. The whole place reminded of a 1950s state psych hospital. Also there are plenty of homeless folks within a half of a block.

Great hostel, incredibly friendly staff, great day and night time activities planned by the hostel, amazing location, can't really fault it other than the wifi occasionally drops out mid phone call! Would 100% recommend and visit again.

The gentlemen working in the valet area did a much better job at providing customers service in comparison to the front desk people. The laundry room was not safe to get to. We mentioned the ice machine on the 4th floor had no ice on Thursday and 4 days later the ice machine still had no ice. The stairwell leading to the outside of was slippery after it rained and I slipped. There was no warning signs Orr safety grips on the steps. I was there for a soccer tournament and instead I was worrie... Read more

This hotel has very little as a breakfast offering. It does have a nice bar offering good city view. Best of all it is in a good location next to Little Italy with all its bars, restaurants and the Saturday morning Little Italy farmers market.

The Porto Vista Hotel is placed really close to the Little Italy neighbourhood (2-3 minutes of walking), and also to the waterfront (about 5-10 minutes of walking). To the city center you make 5 minutes with the car. The breakfast at the 4th floor restaurant was very good. Also the skyline from the restaurant isn't one to be missed.

Great location, just one block away from Little Italy. The hotel was in walking distance to the waterfront. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel provided free shuttle service around the downtown core. I would definitely stay there again.

We stayed here for three night trip to San Diego and were lucky to find street parking across from hotel. Nice location to walk around with nice little cafes & restaurants, close to Waterfront as we had a sunset cruise booked. It offered good value with buffet breakfast included and we found the staff helpful. Would advise if your looking for somewhere central and moderately priced. Parking onsite is available at a charge.
