The location of this hotel is wonderful!! Right near the sea and close to restaurants and shops. We have stayed here before and really enjoyed our stay. This trip we didn't get an ocean view room which was a big mistake!!! We ended up in a dingy little back room with little light and no ventilation. Not one air vent in the room, which looks like it should be part of a family suite and was given to us on a busy weekend. The windows opened onto the walkway so either no cool air or no privacy. ... Great location walking distance to shopping and directly across from the beach. Continental breakfast has waffle bar, and complimentary WiFi is stable and good connection throughout hotel. I stayed in a non-view room on the backside, which was clean, but spartan, which was reflected in the price and a good value. Noise from hallway, and other rooms is noticeable and begins around 7am. For value and location I'd stay here again.

The location and staff makes it very good, but the hotel is stuck in the 70s. In need of some maintenance and renovations. But We would go back! The walk along the ocean is fantastic and the La Jolla village is very nice.

This turned out to be one of my favorite hotels, ever. The view of La Jolla cove was incredible - there's a reason people from all over the world visit it. There seem to be a lot of different types of rooms so pick carefully and spring for oceanfront. We stayed for 5 nights in a 4th floor oceanfront suite with a balcony - a bedroom, living room with pull-out sofa and a small kitchenette. The decor is updated mid-century modern which is pretty cool. The staff were friendly and extremely helpfu... Read more

We book what we considered a proxy room at $200 a night. Reviews were good so we were excited. The place is a dump!! We checked into a room the size of a shoebox on the 3rd floor. It was TINY and there was only 1 free outlet. Stain on the bed and a toilet like the ones you see in prison movies. The bathroom was so tiny your feet were in the shower when you say in the toilet. No hot water and cable broken. Front desk sent security to fix this. He took took one look and said he'd have front desk c... Read more

It was nice to be able to see and hear the ocean all day long. Being so close to the cove made it easy for us to leave our things in our suite, instead of leaving them on the beach, each time we went snorkeling. Terrific to have a kitchenette in the room. For some reason, our room did not have a microwave, but others said there rooms did. Maybe it was in the process of being replaced, but there was one available to us in a common area.

Fabulous view and probably the best views and location in La Jolla, however the rooms really need a thorough cleaning. The carpet was fraying at the kitchen and bathroom. The carpet tacks were exposed at the bathroom. Although some updates have been done in the rooms like counters and fixtures, they painted over the old damaged cabinets. There was mold outside the shower and the tile in the shower and bathtub was cracked. There wasn't central air but the maintenance man did bring in a porta... Read more

Price for location is ok (100$). But for this price you could assume that at least a fan is in the room. Nope. The receptionist was competent but not very friedly. Also I paid 10$ for two bottles of water in the convenience store near by. Ok they are not responsible for this but it rounds it up and good to know if you chose the location.

We loved the location. Can't beat it! It's paradise if you love to hear the seals and be close to the ocean. Staff is super friendly. There is a gym close by and a nice staff there as well. The rooms themselves tend to get humid and a little smelly- but we found that when we opened the door to the patio, the fresh air helped. We didn't like that the bedroom was not anywhere close to the fresh breeze but it was nice to at least have more space.....A little kitchen with the basics. Bring extra pap... Read more

I tried to visit this hotel today, while looking for a place where 60 out-of-town guests can stay for my daughter's upcoming wedding. But when I pulled into the parking garage entrance and told the two attendants I had a 2 p.m. appointment to see a few rooms, and named the person I'd spoken with to set it up, I got a million questions. You want to do what? You talked to who? We don't have anyone here by that name. Are you sure you're at the right place? I finally showed them my calendar entry an... Read more

We stayed here our first night in La Jolla and it was wonderful to be so close to the ocean and seals! The breakfast area on the roof just took my breath away. It's an interesting old place - kind of a puzzle to find our room, and we laughed at the hallway lined with closets (for snorkeling gear? surfboards?). Definitely a fun place to get acquainted with the area.

Very uncomfortable Newelly remodeled rooms, had no place to even put my toothbrush or toothpaste, parking is a mess, I paid $650 for 2 nights. Everything else is very dated. premium location with weird design and planning, 2nd studio we rented had a kitchenette and nothing worked in the kitchen, the sink was clogged refregirator did not work we paid $680 for 2 nights. They charge extra for everything, $20a day for parking, sleeping bag for a kid $30 . location is perfect, great pool.

My family stayed here over the 4th of July weekend and really enjoyed our stay. The location was absolutely perfect to enjoy the fireworks from our balcony, which was a pleasant surprise. It was an older hotel and they forgot to service our room the 1st day. Overall, it was a great place for vacation. The beach was amazing with all the sea lions lying in groups around the cove. Stayed here in Sept 2015 and was kind of disappointed by the size of the room, and no air conditioning. We stayed on the back side of the hotel and there was not much wind circulating back there. I found out afterwards that you can get a window a/c if you ask someone at the front desk. But I was never made aware of this option by anyone. The highlight was the location. It was directly across the street from the cove. The rooms could do with updating. When we checked in there was a phone line and wall socket pulled away from the wall and sitting on the floor. It had a bit of an unloved feel but bedding was very clean. I gave this one star for the location only. It is across the street from the gorgeous La Jolla Cove and very close to high end shopping and food. We have stayed here many times in the past 30 years, but our last visit was about 18 years ago. It looks like it hasn't been kept up in 18 years! The location is perfect as its directly opposite La Jolla beaches and coves, and easy to get to all the great restaurants for dinner. Parking is provided at a cost which i felt was a little expensive. The breakfast was good, not a massive choice but the waffle counter was good and plenty of everything at least.
