The Ghost of Kate Morgan
What Victorian resort would be complete without a resident ghost? Kate Morgan checked into the resort on November 25, 1892, and never checked out. Reports of ghostly happenings, all thought to be connected to the death of this beautiful young woman, have been circulating at The Del ever since.

We stayed at the hotel for just one night, staying in the Beach Club. This is a relatively new exclusive area within the hotel. The accommodation in the Beach Club, especially the one and two storey beach-front cottages, is of very high quality. There are separate exclusive pools - which were empty while we were there - although weather was quite cool. There was also good service from the dedicated staff. You could sometimes feel you were in the zoo when sitting outside one's cottage as the crow... Read more

We were recommended just to go into the beach front bar for a drinkie and the ambience. Tried parking in hotel car-park but there is a $50 flat fee, refundable if you spend $50 in the hotel! One drink each we thought, no way! So we pulled into next road along and parked easily roadside and walked across car park and into hotel. Nice shops, great views (ruined a little by airforce jet noise) 2 beers, chips and one cocktail was $65 - ouch! Not very big drinks either in plastic cups. Go for it but... Read more

I just finished lunch at the Terrace Restaurant beside the outdoor pool. The setting is extremely relaxing between the island type music, waves from the beach and beautiful location. The sitting area is comfortable but they definitely need to increase the number of umbrellas available. The location is extremely sunny and it could use more shade to keep the customers cool and comfortable. Also, the food was predictably expensive but the quality poor. The ceviche was flavourless and chewy and the... Read more

Staying at the Hotel Del has been on my wish list for some time. Treated myself to 2 nights and I'm so glad I did. I was fortunate that I was able to get a room in the main building with a balcony overlooking the garden. The rooms where clean, comfortable and well-appointed. At one time I'm sure this hotel was wonderful. We thought it looked old, and used. The lobby is very dark, hard to see when coming in from the sunshine. Shops quaint but pricey as were the restaurants. Ate one meal in the bar. Waited 45 minutes for our food and the waitress was short when we asked how much longer. Ate one breakfast. Food was excellent but was disconcerting to see birds fly in and peck on the bread and muffins. Gave a tray of bread to hostess and told her birds were eating off it... Read more

I have stayed here several times over the years and it just gets better every time. The location of course has a lot to do with it, however they maintain a standard of excellence in perpetuity. The Staff obviously love working here too. It is a wonderful indulgence and having cocktails at sunset on the balcony is an experience to behold. Exceptional and cannot wait to visit again.

My wife and I had an opportunity to stay four nights during a conference earlier this month at beautiful Hotel Del Coronado. The hotel was beautiful, the service was outstanding, and the views along the beach cannot be beat. Overall this is a great hotel with great history and traditions. My overall stay was great and really appreciated all that was done to make it memorable. When you visit the island of Coronado, this is a "must see" historic site (even if you are not a guest staying there). I went with my kids and they were fascinated. You can't miss the 1888 reception lobby. Ride the original elevator. Having dinner at the terrace. Buy a snack at the famous "moo" ice cream shop or a fudge at the hotel shop. Walk through the halls where the stores are and see the historic pictures of the hotel.

We spent Fathers day here at the Coronado and I have to say they never disappoint. Always the classic best place to stay. But you know what? They are modern and fun and keep up with the newest stuff. I took the mermaid work out class- so much fun. And they sell these mermaid tails by a company called the2tails. Wow!! what a great time my teenage girls had! Girls (and boys) were in the pool all weekend long with these tails and had a blast. I love this hotel and I love the mermaids!!

The Hotel Del Coronado is a historic land site located on the West beach of Coronado. Staying there is a pleasure but a bit expensive but well worth the price, or you can go and visit it's many shops and restaurants and enjoy the sun and fun of the beach. With expansive views of the Pacific ocean and Point Loma the views are spectacular and it's not unusual that you might see some Navy Seals in training and their base is just south of the hotel.

Started by taking a tour to the island followed by lunch sitting on the patio looking out over the ocean. Pricey but good food. We decided to spend one night. Expensive but enjoyed having time to walk the property, see the shops in town and to just relax looking out over the ocean. We rented bikes to bike around the island and had a lot of fun. It was a bit windy and temps dropped fast at night but we loved our time here. and would love to go back.

Elegant venue. First, cocktail hour on the lawn with musicians providing relaxing music while we were served lamb chops, crab cakes, shrimp tempura and a few other finger foods. Service was excellent. We proceeded into the crown room for dinner and dancing. Again, service was top notch and the food and drinks were non stop. I can't imagine they would slack on any type of party. Top Notch placeū???

Although pricier than other hotels in and around San Diego, I must say this is the one you want to splurge on. This was not my first visit to this hotel, but my first time staying overnight. You can't get any closer to one of the best beaches in southern California. Me, my husband and 2 children (ages 2 and 5) had THE best time and would probably consider staying here every time I travel to SD. Stayed at this hotel with the family the first week of August and we had a wonderful time. Our room was in the Ocean Tower right on the beach with an ocean view. We left our patio door open at night and slept to the sound of crashing waves. The tower rooms are of typical size and comfortable. Don't get me wrong, the Hotel Del is a magnificent beauty on a gorgeous stretch of white sand beach. We're locals and we love going there to walk around and enjoy the luxury of it all. We had an unusual opportunity to stay overnight recently so we got to enjoy the pool area and a large modern room in the adjacent tower building. The accommodations were great. But everything is sooooooo expensive. And there are hordes of people everywhere. Other than that, it's a beautiful place.

If you have to ask how much this place costs, you probably can't afford it. I knew that if I glanced at the prices, my heart would skip a beat. On the other hand, the location is perfect, the staff is friendly and the rooms are well-ordered. We had an ocean view room in one of the newer towers. It was large enough for the three of us and well-appointed. My only gripe was there was only one waste basket in the room and none in the bathroom. Food options are good, but expensive. If you go to Coronado once, you have to stay at the Del. It's a classic on the island. The grounds are well groomed and the rooms have all had recent renovations. If you want a beach/ocean view, you can stay in the main building or down by the pool. I prefer the rooms by the pool the you can walk right out to the beach. They cost more but it's so nice to just relax on the patio of your own room. I also like the garden view rooms in the old building. They are nice if you don't care about the ocea... Read more

Yes, this place is ‚??it‚??, and was our bucket list for the iconic experience at the ‚??Del‚??. $600 later for a relatively cheap room (although we got the famous ‚??ghost room‚?? in 3308 ‚?? very cool), it was a *somewhat* great experience. Simple things like they did not give us shampoo (think Motel 6 - 101), and after waiting 15+ minutes for housekeeping we still did not have our shampoo so off we were washing our hair with body wash since we were on a schedule. Now how crappy is that! 2... Read more

The hotel was fine. The external structure is truly unique. The ballroom was very nice too. The room ( ocean tower) was good enough. Frankly, for an "iconic" hotel which charges as high as Del, the rooms can be a lot better, plusher. It does take time when one asks for something- but when you have almost given up, it comes! The problem I faced was after I checked out. When I asked for clarifications on some amount blocked on my credit card ( my bank claimed that), the staff sent a bill copy. ... Read more

Booked a night at the Del before heading to San Diego for a conference. Celebrating our wedding anniversary. Even though we arrived around noon and check in time wasn't til 4~ they didn't give us a hard time and said they would do their best. We were able to upgrade to a room in the towers with a view. While we waited for our room, we checked our luggage, and headed to the beautiful beach. Then we had lunch at the sun deck bar. The "some like it hot" margarita was delicious! So was the gu... We could not afford to spend the night, so we just visited during the day. It is a lovely old hotel with a surprisingly rustic lobby. We browsed the shops and wandered about the grounds. We enjoyed a beautiful sunset from the beach.

The location is wonderful. Most of the restaurants face the beach and have patios where you can watch the sunset and feel the breeze, but also have gas heaters. The Sunday brunch is expensive but amazing.

We enjoyed an afternoon at the Del, in which we at lunch on the back deck overlooking the ocean. The food was fabulous and we order a bottle of their De Coronado Champagne. The Champagne was chilled just right and very smooth. We ordered The Del Burger with all trimmings. It was very tasty and cooked to perfection. We love the view from the back deck, great place for people watching and ocean viewing. We highly recommend this place to any one visiting the Island of Coronado.

Went to visit family for weekend and was told "Hotel del Coronado" was the only place to go. A real throwback. Lots of wood. Enjoyed learning the history. Room was very clean. Breakfast was excellent as I did not eat other meals at hotel. Great location. Nice fitness center, better than most. The weather was perfect which is almost always the case in San Diego. Wish I could have stayed longer. BTW, did not see any ghosts.

It is such a beautiful and magical hotel. Ask to stay in the Victorian Building So you can appreciate all the history at this hotel. They have the original elevator with an elevator attendant. It's on the best beach in California. We actually ate in town at some wonderful restaurants so we would avoid the high prices on food and drinks at the hotel.

I have stayed several times at this property and its a beautiful place to stay for any holiday. I usually visit for Christmas time and it really brings you back to a classic Christmas. The décor is wonderful and the rooms are very spacious. My only concern is their guest services skills. When you walk into the hotel there is no one to greet you. When you check in you are not advised or informed of holds or called up to the next guest service person you have to figure it out on your own if their... Read more

This place is super cool. The history, the location, the atmosphere, it really is worth the hype. Sure, it's an old hotel and that shows in places, but it's worth it. It's easy to get to and from downtown over the bridge or via the ferry, and Coronado itself is worth spending some time in, too.

Have always loved this beauty we have visited often for dinner. I Was very excited to stay in this historic and iconic hotel for our wedding anniversary. Some of the updates to the room didn't feel like the type of decor matched the historical feel of the rest of the hotel. We both loved our stay at this beautiful place. Can't wait to return.

It's a historic property which gives this hotel a unique feel. It doesn't feel antiquated and they've done a lot to modernize like having TVs that let you stream from your favorite apps. I found that it took a while to get hot water and one morning there was none! Also the toilet kept making noises if the handle bar wasn't nudged into a specific position. It's these little things that detracted from the overall experience. Room was clean and spacious. The grounds were well maintained.

I booked this hotel, in part, because of the historical factor and how iconic this hotel is. And the pictures on the website and searching the internet were very appealing as well. I have stayed at another resort on Coronado Island, and decided to stay at the Hotel del Coronado to see if the pictures and ambience matched up. I spent 3 days at the del Coronado for a Microsoft conference this autumn. The location is gorgeous and the rooms are clean. Room service was pretty fast although choice was a little bit limited. The 20% tax on food for room service is a little bit exaggerated in my opinion. Service was always kind and fast. If you plan to go there to enjoy the beach, you have to like military. The navy base is pretty close by and the is pretty much always a chopper flying around.

I love this hotel because of its history and location. But I just realized that unless you are willing to pay above 1000$ for a room, you will end up with a tiny room with view on the parking lot but still pay 300$ to 400$ for it. But also those rooms needs some major updates. Especially the shower in my room needs a major overhaul and I assume it is true for all of the rooms. The hotel however is beautiful ones your leave your room and enjoy yourself.

Restaurants and services were good too, as well as the pool and fitness center. However for the price of a stay a little steep for what you get. I love the Del. The service is exceptional, the location first-rate, the building beautifully restored. It's expensive but worth it. The only downside is a big one, especially for experience travelers: The Del has decided to mirror the practice started by cheesy Vegas casinos of adding a sleazy "resort fee"---$30!---to its already skyrocketed prices, in order to pad the bill for stuff you should, and used to be, given with the already high room price.
