"My wife and 2 boys (11, 13) decided to take a little 4 day, end of summer trip to SD. Legoland, Zoo, wing the rest. We discussed the Hyatt with the water park, procrastinated and I ended up booking a room at another hotel famous for its swimming pool 2 nights before our trip. That didn't fly with my wife so I cancelled and booked here the day before we arrived. We stayed in 107, a 2 queen leisure very near the pool (could walk to it from the sliding glass doors on the far side of the room). The cleanliness could have been better (m&m's under a lamp, residual stuff behind the TV dresser and it wasn't cleaned the 1st day we were there), but for the price, location, awesome staff and pool/jacuzzi, it was really great. Our rental car wasn't that clean either, but it drove just fine - same with the room. Slept well, ate well, very pleasant stay - just tossed the m&m's myself, straightened up the room myself that first day and all was well.
We will definitely stay here next time we come, but will go the suite route as the 2 queen rooms were pretty small for us.
Tips -
See the transportation folks for any local info or driving arrangements. My wife and youngest took the car to Legoland one day leaving my eldest and myself to explore on our own. We were going to get a cab up front, but the transportation guys offered to take us to old town and pick us up when we were ready. It was a Thursday and they weren't that busy so they offered. I didn't get the impression this was anything more than excellent customer service as opposed to something expected of them. Our driver was excellent, full of local tips and just a really nice guy.
Full breakfast is accurate as long as your bill does not exceed $20. However, using the kids menu (kids eat free) and some creative math from our waitress, this was never a problem.
Jimmy's Famous across the street is AMAZING - go there. Yelp it yourself. Also, if you have a rental car and want great, cheap mexican without driving to old town, try Adalberto's. Huge portions cheap and authentic tasty awesomeness just around the corner."
