We have stayed at other Holiday Inn Express motels around the country and know that they are usually a solid choice. We were pleasantly surprised at how convenient this motel was to all the San Diego attractions and to the La Jolla area too. Mission Bay Drive goes right into Interstate 5 and downtown is only minutes away. The staff, without exception, was personable and knowledgeable. The free breakfast is always a big plus. We would have rated this location 'Excellent' but for the fact that the... Read more

Since my review was "rejected" on the IHG website (I guess it was not positive enough), I thought I would share our experience here. After reading all the other reviews, I am convinced we were put in the crappiest room they have. I highly recommend that you avoid Room 331, which not only was cramped, it was hot and slopes to the South. The A/C was broken, the mattress was lumpy, the bathroom flooded because the room was not plumb (see attached photos) and the hot room contributed to our miserabl... Read more

I decided to explore the beach area in San Diego after my delightful stay at another "gem" in San Diego and booked at the Holiday Inn Express SeaWorld Beach Area. I arrived and was disappointed to find that it was not on the beach but was checked in by the manager Juan, he was friendly and engaging. I was given an upgraded to a handicap room as it is one of their larger rooms and was not disappointed. It was clean and well maintained as well as the housekeeping staff had left two swan towel anim... Read more

Myself and my friend had another hotel booked for Thursday night 5/19/2016 apparently they said I cancelled the room (apparently they gave my room away and were booked) We were very fortunate to have called the Holiday Inn Express hotel and they were so welcoming on the phone and even more so in person Ana at the front desk was so nice and polite and mainly down to earth, she made us feel so comfortable. The room itself was the nicest room we could have asked for it was like brand new clean neat... Read more

Not a new place but clean and well managed and well maintained. Funky design. Parking was a bit tight. It actually has a small outdoor pool and a work out room. Breakfast was good and provided a decent variety. Don't expect high dollar, chef-cooked items. The site is about a ten minute drive from MCRD and Sea World. There is another Holiday Inn Express closer to the airport - check the map for the proper location of each.

Savannah and Ana were super helping us with our trip. Ana talked about local sights and restaurants, and Savannah helped with our online options and directions. Hotel was convenient to many sights, it was a really great experience!

Free decent breakfast was the reason we booked this hotel but there was a lot more the inn could offer. We got more than what we expected. We booked it through Student Universe and paid for the whole stay, but the booking system has some issues and the reservation didn't show up in Holiday Inn's database. So they helped us contact the Student Universe and settle everything for us without any complaint at all. They just charged us for the first day just to hold it on as a deposit but we got full... For a person that travels quite often, I am very impressed on the service from front desk to hotel staff. Decent room and quite of amenities and to top it off, good continental breakfast. Staff is amazing and with friendlysmile. Thank you

The room was great. Two queens and one pull out couch. There were two adults and four kids, plenty of room. The free continental breakfast was good. The staff was pleasant and responded quickly to room requests. The hotel is in a bad area. Your view is off a massage parlor and gym parking lot. It is very close to Sea World.

The staff was very helpful with lunch places close by. Our room was made available for us earlier than usual. Breakfast was good. Overall it's a good place. The parking is very tight. We were woke up by rowdy drunk neighbors in the middle of the night. We were given 10,000 points for the incident.

This property is a solid 2 stars max--that's it. Yes, the front desk staff are friendly, and yes, it's San Diego, but it's still no more than a 2. Even if doors in the hallway weren't slamming all night long disrupting any sort of hope for quiet, it would still be no more than a 2. Even if the air conditioner weren't gasping for air (oh, the irony), and it wasn't in a neighborhood that was more than questionable when the sun went down, it would still be no more than a 2. And even if, by some mir... Read more

For people who know what they are getting, the hotel is above and beyond mid-range. It is a perfect place to bring a family for a vacation, the breakfast in the morning is very filling! The staff, in particular Juan and Kuazine were very knowledgeable and set us up with a cab to and from the beach. There are lots of restaurants walking distance and its San Diego, whats not to love?

The wife and I were getting out of the heat in El Centro and decided to head to Pacific Beach. We were able to find a great deal through the hotel's website for a truly busy weekend in May.The hotel is right off the freeway and only a couple of miles from the beach. To the naysayers, the neighborhood consists of hotels and car dealerships(I don't know were shady or seedy come in). We were welcomed by Yadira and Savannah who greeted us with a warm hello. We stayed in room 324 which was plenty big... Read more

My husband and I stayed here for our anniversary. If you book online, you can tell them the reason for your visit. They just told us Happy Anniversary. We chose this property because it was close enough to the beach, but not in the crowd of the beach. The staff was friendly. The parking would be my only complaint. The spaces are SMALL and there are not enough spaces. Other than that, it was a great weekend!

Booked 2 rooms months earlier at the hotel across the street won't mention the name because they did handle my cancellation well (I'd say that was the worse experience of any trip ever!) Saw the holiday inn iterally ran across the street I left transportation and family behind! After reading reviews about this location, my family was a little hesitant on booking. I'm glad we did though because it is located in a decent area of where our needs were. Staff is super friendly and willing to accommodate you. Looks clean and well kept. Free Wifi and Breakfast. Other than the really small parking spots and a smaller pool with no jacuzzi, my family was satisfied and would book again.

Was pleasantly surprised by this hotel..while it was a bit noisy at night with the traffic outside, the room was very nice and clean, the staff were all very pleasant and helpful, and the breakfast every morning was the best breakfast buffet I have had at a hotel. Very conveniently located too.

We stayed here for four nights. The size of the room is okey, the bathroom is small, but does it jobs. The breakfast is free and excellent. Much to chipsene between also hot food like scrambeled eggs, sausage. The pool i small, but ok, the sun goes away from the pool early. The beds are good.

Our family of 4 (two teens, two adults) stayed one night here in July for a quick trip to the beach. The room with two double beds was on the smaller size as was the shower/toilet room, but the sink area was large enough and the full length mirror in addition to the large vanity mirror meant that multiple people could get ready at the same time. The beds were super comfy and provided a great night's sleep after a long day at the beach. The room decorations were current and overall the room wa... Read more

The manager Juan really treats his employees right, you can tell by how happy they are to be at work. Thanks for a great stay!

Last minute trip to SD & booked this hotel same day/morning of check-in. I only chose this hotel bc it was one of the more cheaper hotels available. Overall this hotel was good enough just for the 1 night my boyfriend & I were there but I wouldn't stay there again. I was very unhappy about not getting warm/hot water in our shower. I notified the front desk but was only told thanks for letting them know & they would have maintenance check it out. The 1 King bedroom was small but It was nice b... Read more

Happy to say that I found this location after a VERY bad night at a hotel across the street. Savannah greeted me with a smile as I entered the lobby, desperately seeking a new hotel for my final night in the area. Savannah was very empathetic as I described my very unfortunate stay at a hotel across the street the previous night. She said she'd do what she could for me and found a room at below published rates. I can not praise Holiday Inn enough for their understanding. Not only was I elat... Read more

This place has a tiny parking area, and a ity bity pool. The free breakfast was well stocked, the staff did a great job everyday of having everything out on time for the 2 weeks I was there. The room cleaning staff always had my room in perfect order before I got back from classes. The front desk staff were prepared for everything I asked of them. For the money, this is the best place to stay in San Diego. All the great service and amenities without a large cost.

Absolutely disgusting. We arrived at about 10 in the afternoon, and they wouldn't give us our room keys until 8, so we decided to stare down the employees there in an attempt to intimidate them. Then came the next problem, the mysterious goo found on the whale carcass that was laying on our floor as a gift. Needless to say, we will not be returning anytime soon.

We stayed for three nights, we found the breakfast fantastic for free it really set us up for the day. The room was a good size and clean. Parking was free and we didn't struggle to find a space at all. The beach is about 2.5 miles walk but only $6 in a uber. We really enjoyed our stay here.

My then girlfriend and I decided to drive all the way to San Diego as the next leg on our trip. It is right off of I-5. Upon arrival, the hotel is very oddly designed. The check in area is separate from the rest of the place, connected via a carport and a narrow hallway, so you do actually have to go outside. Very strange for any Holiday Inn Express, so it was obviously another property at one point. Other than driving a mile to the Pacific Ocean, we were tired and didn't give the city the time... We came down to San Diego sea world and stay a night at this hotel. This is a long weekend night. The room price is 200+. This hotel locates by couple car dealers. It doesn't have enough parking spaces. People were circling the parking lot trying to find parking space. We were given a room at the end of hall way by the entry door. The nightmare started. The room wasn't the best. The bathroom (washing hands) was within the main room. I v seen other H Inn express and there were not like this.
