"On our stay, I heard water running in the middle of the night from the shower area. I alerted the staff, early the next morning, and they stated that they would look into the matter. It was very hard to sleep the first night. I returned later that evening and still heard the water. At that time the manager called to ask about our stay. I notified him of the water running, and that the staff had mentioned that they were going to look into it. He did ask me if I wanted to move. I turned the move down as it was late and I did not want to pack and un-pack again. We were reimbursed by the hotel for one night. Overall the hotel was great, and I would recommend it to anyone visiting San Diego. It is centrally located to most of the attractions."

"Hotel was clean, breakfast was good...Gets a bit crazy....I think the seating needs to be increased during dining hours.
The only complaint was parking - if you have a large SUV or truck, parking is VERY tight. We drive a Traverse and it was still very difficult to try to park my car and saw others have similar issues.
Hotel room was very clean, staff kept it nice and it was a quiet stay."

"Good for the price. Clean rooms and bathroom. Eveything was built to maximaize use of available space. Close to UCSD where we had some business for three days. Close the freeway. Spent too much money shopping and buying things around the neighborhood. Local drivers were very impatient and rude. Did not see many black folks except maybe two, one serves at the local Dominos pizza and another at the vons on garnet, don't know why. Hotel was quiet, not much traffic in hallways, good breakfast and courteous service attendants, quick response and resolution when we had internet interruption. We have been to many hotels in San Diego area but I would definitely return here if I have a close business or sight seeing encounter."

"This was our family's first trip to San Diego with our two children and we were on a budget. Without any knowledge of accomodations in the area, we chose a Holiday Inn Express location claiming to be near the beach area and close to Sea World. The area is not a welcoming part of town and the hotel itself is tiny. The other reviews understated the small size of the pool. As the reviews stated, parking is super tight. The lobby is very small and there is one washer and one dryer in an unmarked room. The breakfast was fine for us and convenient. As far as the room, it was for the most part, clean. However, there was a distinct stench of urine in the bathroom. The beds are not comfy at all. Basically, if you are looking for a low budget hotel and 'just' a place to stay, this 'motel' will do. But, for a few more bucks a night we probably could have stayed at a much nicer hotel that is much closer to the beach. This hotel is close to the attractions we were interested in seeing, but we most definitely would not return to this hotel."

"Overall it was good, great location awesome value! It came with free parking, wifi and breakfast. Here's some down side, wifi was extremely slooow, felt slower than a dail up connection. Bathroom was very small. My biggest complaint is the door...it slams shut, very loud and annoying when you are sleeping and the room down the hall closes the door and all you hear is the sound of the door slamming. The hotel should invest in a door arm that slows the door down.
Breakfast was ok...almost the sme thing daily, but its free. Overall the hotel was okay you really get what you pay for, it's old that's for sure"

"The smell of smoke in the hallway was heavy and unpleasant. The original room keys did not work. The TV got few channels, though it was new and got a great picture. I understood at booking this hotel that there was free shuttle service from the airport, but that was not the case. The phone didn't make calls out to a nearby restaurant to order dinner--the person at the desk said the phone would be looked into and they would get back to us. This never happened. All this adds up to a less than satisfactory experience.
However, the morning staff were helpful in calling us a cab and helping get our boarding passes to print on the computer set up -- thanks to them for that!"

"Location excellent as far as getting around the San Diego area, right off I-5. It felt like a safe neighborhood. Hotel was clean, updated. Room was sufficient space for two people in the king bed size room. Omelets were a nice addition to the breakfast, also the pancake machine. We actually ate breakfast there everyday (sometimes we will get tired of the breakfast at the hotel, but this time we didn't). Enjoyed getting the USA Today newspaper each day. Since we were there for the off season (Sept), the parking situation was fine, not tight. Great Thai restaurant right across the street--we ate there twice. Maid service, good job of replacing toiletries and towels. Very pleasant stay for a very reasonable price."

"Overall, it's 3 out of 5. Friendly staff, clean and quiet room. Plenty of parking spots. FREE breakfast is excellent, with many choices available. Supply sufficiently till 9:30am. Most of the time, the breakfast room is full and you have to take breakfast to your room.
However, parking is tight. It's just OK for my Nissan Versa. King room is pretty small. And, no fridge in my King Room. A bit noisy air conditioner in my room.
We stayed for a week, did not enter the 4 feet deep swimming pool, small as a hot tub.
Ideal location, within 15min to most attactions and airport.

"Have to say that this hotel is fine if you are looking for a no frills inexpensive place to lay your head for a few days; that being said, you might want to be aware of a few things. The parking is very very tight and if you have a larger car or one without a good turning radius you are going to have a problem. The pool is very very small. In fact it was mistakenly thought to be a hot tub by more than one patron during our stay. I had to get towels from front office both times my family went swimming, and the pool is only in sunlight in the morning, after that shade all day. As for the breakfast, well if you got there around 630am it was okay. The pancake maker was working for only one of the four days we stayed there, the juice machine was consistantly having problems, the staff worked hard to keep things filled, but most of the time there was always always something empty. If you go a little later in the morning there was never any place to sit, most people ended up carrying up to room, which brings me to the elevators. The slowest in san diego, I mean the hotel is only three floors and you always have to wait, in a very small hallway I might add. As for the rooms, we had a double queen and it was okay. The bathroom was quite cramped and the sink was out in the room, so if one person is up earlier than the others the light will be obtrusive. Our window opened up on a solid brick wall so not much of a view. The beds were comfortable, we didn't hear too much noise from corridors. As we booked last minute, for the fourth of July weekend no less, I count ourselves lucky that we had a room at all. All in all, I wouldn't talk this place up to our friends but, in a pinch, this hotel is fine."

"We enjoyed our stay. The free, hot breakfast was surprisingly good! The staff was very friendly. The beds were comfortable and the room was clean. Enjoyed having a refrigerator and microwave in our room, a definite value. Unfortunately, our window opened to a brick wall view. I would say that normally, this hotel would be a great value. However, the week that we decided to stay there it was very overpriced. Come to find out that this was due to the Comic Book Convention. Parking is a little tough for a larger vehicle. "We loved our stay at this hotel and will come back again soon. Everyone was friendly. This hotel was close to Sea World, Old Town, the Beach, and Mission Bay. We enjoyed our free Breakfast. We never had a problem finding a place to park. The bathrooms were so nice shower heads were high for us tall people . Air conditioner worked so good, beds were very comfortable. Loved having the refrigerater for the drinks we brought."

"It's hard to park a small van in a tightly space parking lot.The room is clean and friendly staff. But, the person who handle foods did not wear glove. I witnessed after she wiped out table with wet cloth then she crab a bread with her bare hand and filled up the tray. If you have a wrinkle clothes forget about iron them because someone screw iron place holder almost at the middle of the board. There is not enough space to iron your cloth on those iron board."

We were surprised and pleased to find that what we thought would be a Continental breakfast was actually a full breakfast with eggs and bacon, biscuits, toast, etc.

"I reserved this hotel somewhat last minute to put my sister and I closer to the sports arena for the R&R San Diego Marathon. Everyone I dealt with was super helpful! We had no problem getting a late checkout for after the race, and they were very understanding when I called from the course to tell them we'd be finishing a bit later than expected...oops! Our room was very clean and comfortable. We weren't around for the breakfast, but the breakfast room looked pretty nice. I thought it was a fantastic hotel for the price we paid, and I'd definitely stay there again!"

"The room I ultimately stayed in with my wife and grandson was a '2-Queen' room. It was very comfortable, spacious and exceedingly clean (non-smoking). My only complaints: I booked a room for 2 adults and 1 child and received a 'King Room'. The website stated trundle beds were available at $10/night. I decided to check to make sure I could reserve a trundle bed for two nights if it wasn't included in my cost (since I had identified 2 adults and 1 child). I was surprised to find out they did NOT have trundle beds, and I had to book a '2 Queen' room at an additional cost of almost $40. As bad as that was, it could have been worse if I'd asked at the desk for a trundle bed when I checked in! My second complaint is minor: Lying in front of the TV was a channel guide that was of NO use, since they had recently changed providers and 'hadn't gotten around to' providing an updated guide.OVERALL: Unhappy with the incorrect information resulting in an increased cost, but VERY happy with the room and breakfast! I would recommend -with a caution!"

"We booked this room last minute for 4 nights over the memorial day holiday. Overall it was a good experiance and wouldnt hesitate to stay here again. rnrnProsrn-For the price you pay its well worth it. Similar rooms in the are are 20-30%more. rn-Close to sea world, mission bay beach, san diego zoo, pacific beach, downtown, coronado. I drove everywhere the 4 days and used half a tank of gas on a 15MPG sedan. Close to food, gas, grocery store. rn-Rooms were clean and beds confortable. flat screen tvs and room service cleaned our rooms every morning while we were out sightseeing. rnrnConsrn-Rooms are small. We had the double queens and it was enough room for us but they are smaller than most other places we have stayed. rn-Rooms are quiet at night but in the morning we woke up to slamming doors and people chattering. This was around 8-9am. rn-Parking is small. On busy weekends it gets completely full. Also parking in the courtyard is difficult, the spaces seem to be small. If you get there early it usually is not a problem. rn-The free wifi from my room was weak. I was on the 3rd floor towards the end and i couldnt get any signal rnrnOverall, if your looking for a nice clean affordable room just to sleep i would highly recommend this one. If your looking for a hotel experiance you should probably spend some more money and go elsewhere. "

"My family of five- mom, dad and three 18y.o. children booked two rooms for two nights. Our room was great both nights. My kids room had a problem late the second evening with a bath back-up. The staff was friendly and immediately placed them in another room, no questions asked, and without trying to fix the problem into the night. The Thai restaurant across the street was great. There is a convenience store across the street. Ten minutes tops from SeaWorld. The only negative was that the refrigerator in our room was not working properly. I didn't notice it the first night, but when I put our Thai leftovers in it the second, they were gone..."

"This hotel was a motel about 6 months ago -- which explains a lot. The rooms are TINY. Our room was street facing and the street lights from our room glared in our window and the curtains were paper thin so they didn't block it out. The room was clean and the bed comfortable. The fan in the room worked great at blocking out the street noise. The hotel did not offer conditioner -- what hotel doesn't offer conditioner - and I got three different answers on why (they didn't carry it; their shampoo was a shampoo/condition mix so it wasn't necessary; and they were out). The hotel staff wasn't the most helpful. We called down to ask them to call a cab for us and they said they would - in 10 to 15 minutes because there was a line. Overall a very disappointing experience."

"We booked 2 rooms and both of them were clean. The employees were courteous. The free breakfast was abundant. The hotel is located at an auto mall but close to Seaworld, Pacific Beach, USD, and downtown. There's a 7 Eleven across from it and a few restaurants within walking distance."

"Stayed for 7 nights. Have stayed at many HIE properties and found this one to be one of the cleanest, friendly staff, and the best breakfast area. The food was standard HIE fare but very clean. King room was smaller than normal but comfortable and very clean. Plenty of parking. The wifi was more than adequate. Will stay here again."

"The Holiday Inn Express hotel had small, stuffy rooms and a narrow, stuffy corridor.
Hotel Staff is professional.
Hotel guests made noises at odd times of the night (between midnight and 4 am) and hotel sound insulation is poor and kept me up all night for 3 nights in a row.
Room AC had problems and was not fixed by Hotel management after letting them know."

"I attended college in San Diego, so it was nice to return to enjoy the attractions of the city. I liked the location of the hotel. It is in proximity of Mission Beach and Downtown San Diego. Our room, which had 2 queen beds was small, but it was large enough to accommodate my siblings and I. The bathroom was small, but it was very clean. The breakfast buffet was satisfying. They served mini omelettes, sausage, oatmeal, pastries, coffee and juice. It was not gourmet food, but it was good if you did not feel like spending money at Denny's or McDonald's. The staff was very nice. We were provided with directions and they even printed our passes for Six Flags. Overall, I enjoyed my experience and would stay again."
