The hotel is very old. Carpets are worn and the rooms are so small, felt like I'm staying in a motel 6 and not a Holiday Inn Express. Rooms are clean though. There is a fee for parking which is not specified in their website. Street parking is free up to 8am though and there are several parking lots around the hotel where you can park at a lower price.

This Holiday Inn hotel is getting a renovation outside, if you need a overnight in San Diego it is also a good place, to sight seeing San Diego or the coast area. The staff is very friendly at the check in and there is parking garage beside the property for a fee. We did stay at 1e floor at a nice and clean 2 queens room (125), the property have no restaurant but there are many restaurants in the area so we did eat at halve mile walk in the Little Italy & Gaslamp area, there is free internet for... The room was fine but the parking garage is tight for larger vehicles. The stalls were a little on the small side but it was the turns to move up and down level that bugged me. I believe each of their "parking levels" has two level, that is not just level 4 but level 4A and 4B, 3A and 3B, etc. That is a lot of tight turns to go up/down ramps. Hotel parking is located on the 3rd and 4th levels. The $16 parking fee cheaper than other nearby 24hr garages so we parked at the Holiday Inn garage. O... Read more

We ended up here last minute via Priceline after a debacle with our initial booking at another hotel. We would not normally chose a Holiday Inn (aren't they only for seniors and young families?) but it seemed to be the last room in town due to a huge conference. We were pleasantly surprised!! The staff were extremely helpful and very customer service focused. The hotel was undergoing external renovations on the 7th Ave side, we did not know this prior to arriving (not the hotel's fault in our c... Read more

I am writing this review at 5:35am because for the second trip In a row I have been woken up earlier than I wanted. Currently the hotel is undergoing a renovation and the construction crew began work at 7:30am right outside my window, making it all but impossible to continue sleep. This second trip I had the bad luck of being next to extremely noisy neighbors that were up all night partying, talking, laughing and coming and going from their room (door banging) literally all night. Called securit... Read more

I stayed for 2 nights during the Memorial Day weekend. For such a busy weekend, the hotel was run smoothly. It is located in the business part of downtown: away from bar crowds but walkable to sights. One caveat is that walking back is uphill (think San Francisco). I was hoping for just a basic, no frills, clean hotel but I think Holiday Inn Express delivered more than that. I had a good night's rest. The staff was pleasant, accommodating and very helpful. Although they are in the midst... Read more

I stayed at this hotel for 5 nights in May 2016 to attend a medical conference in san diego. The hotel is being under renovation so you donot expect to have good and comfortable hotel. The lobby is simple but what attracts you the wellcome of the staff with welcome services like free coffe, tea, lemonade and cold water. the view was obscured in my room due to renovation dust disturbances so I asked to change and they gave me another room after 2 nights with reasonable location and comfort. wifi ... Dial 0 and get nothing. Rooms are tiny and the parking garage is made for go carts. If they don't answer when you call, what services are they providing? I didn't expect 4 star but didn't get 2. I will never come back

I was in town for a large conference and finding accommodation was a nightmare. Due to this, I certainly didn't get value for money. Putting that aside, it was a great stay. I was offered a renovated room, which was great. Large, clean and comfortable. The breakfast spread was basic but of high quality. The staff were friendly and helpful. The nighttime cookie bar was a nice touch. Walking distance to everything you could need. About a 25 minute stroll to the convention centre and about 45 minu... Read more

My husband and I were in San Diego for 2 nights and wanted to stay close to the zoo. I found this hotel on Trip Advisor. Our room was clean and the bed was super comfortable. When we first arrived at the hotel, we had so many questions about the hotel and the surrounding area. All of the front desk staff were pleasant and helpful but Donell (?) was so patient with our endless questions. The hotel was undergoing renovations but it was all exterior work and didn't affect us at all. The free breakf... Read more

I just spent the last six days and five nights at FIVE DIFFERENT hotels. This is hotel number four. Hands down, the staff is AMAZING. They were professional, friendly, and accommodating. They have no impact nor any involvement on any negative opinions I have for this hotel. I chose this hotel because it was one of the more affordable hotels for this specific date, Friday, July 2, 2016. The bathroom is TINY. SMALL. You can not open your arms completely. That is how small it is. We had a balc... Read more

We stayed there the week of June 20. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The complimentary shuttle to the airport and zoo was nice. When we called the hotel to ask to be picked up at the zoo, the wait for the shuttle was long. The staff person told us to take a taxi, and the hotel would reimburse us. Very considerate. The breakfast is very good with a lot of variety. We ate at different times, and there was always plenty of food. The lemonade, cookies, and happy hour are nice also.

My wife, our 9 month old son and I stayed here for 2 nights in the King bed suite over the 4th of July. The hotel overall was great, it is showing its age a bit but nothing major, very friendly staff and the room was very clean. The room we stayed in was a corner room so we had windows that stretched around the room to create a great view. The room was very spacious and included a comfortable bed. The only thing for us on the negative side, and really its a preference thing not a hotel issue, wa... Read more

They received me very bad, the recepcionist was Donnell. Its supervisor was similar... They don't put you attention and speak with others when you are speaking with us. The staff doesn't respect you and doesn't treat you as a client. For the price, I hoped other service.

My son and I stayed at this hotel while we were in San Diego for the Major League Baseball All-Star Game and related events. The front-desk staff was nice, but the hotel is relatively old (probably built in the 1950s or '60s) and its elevators probably have never been upgraded. In addition, the second day we were there, the housekeeper didn't show up until around 4 p.m., and by that time we were back in our room and just wanted to rest. On two other days, he or she neglected to provide us with c... Read more

There's a lot positive about this hotel. Staff is friendly and checked me into my room though I arrived early. Breakfast is good. Airport shuttle was convenient. On weekdays the hotel has happy hour with free beer and wine. The main negative is the noise from the water pipes. There was an awful kid noise whenever a neighbour used the toilet or shower. As well like most holiday inn expresses, the room decor is tired.

I have certain expectations of Holiday Inn, and this is an ok place with a nice view of the city if they give you a room with balcony. But get a bad room and you would be a zoo exhibit to passersby in nearby elevators and corridors. The hotel is difficult to get to at night unless you are driving, and parking is a bit confusing. I felt that the hallways were terribly depressing, with dingy carpeting and white lights which makes one feel as though you were in some 50's hospital ward -- it's a ... Read more

Visited for three nights, staff were very accommodating and went above and beyond to ensure we enjoyed our stay. Highlights included happy hour, where we were offered unlimited free drinks from 5-6:30 served by the general manager, a lovely pool and our stay was topped off by the exceptional service from Dale who drove the shuttle to the airport. A credit to your hotel.

The location, cleanliness, shuttle service, and staff are excellent except for my unpleasant and stressful experience with Luis at the front desk. Among the four Holiday Inn hotels we have been to (3 of which were in June 2016), the Holiday Inn Express San Diego is the smallest with only 3 floors but it has the best customer service overall, except for Luis, who ironically, works at the front desk. Amanda of front desk was very helpful and cheerful every time she assisted us. Jason of front desk... Read more

Stayed 6 nights w my 9 year old. The jr suite was roomy but there is no door between living and sleeping areas. One TV. Beautiful windows on 2 sides overlooking the streets let in plenty of light, but the window shades didn't completely cover so early morning light hits sleepers right in the face. The ancient wall mount air conditioner had a funky smell...mold. It couldn't keep up with August's heat, mid 80s daytime. The overall condition of room furnishings and carpet/floors was worn and ... Rooms are good. The price is reasonable when you consider that you are within walking distance of everything downtown, the hotel shuttle will take you to and from the airport, zoo, Balboa Park, and Harbor Drive (USS Midway Museum and boat tours). The shuttle is the reason anyone should stay here if you are visiting San Diego. Alex is a gracious driver and helps you once you get to your touring area. I stayed here during a business trip, and overall I enjoyed it. I had a great view of the city. It was a little tricky figuring out the one-way streets and that you have to drive through the building to get to the front door, but nothing terrible happened.
