I stayed here for three nights and it was initially a disaster. I knew it was being refurbed, so asked if they had any new rooms, but they said no and gave me an old one. Went into my room, one of the bathroom lights was out and there was either blood or rust in the bath tub. Asked them to change it, went into the new room, and the lights were broken, and the sink was absolutely filled with beard shavings - gross! Took a photo, went back and they changed my room again. This time, I got a refu... Read more

I booked this through expedia and wished I knew it was going through a renovation before I booked. I was however surprised that the reno didn't disturb me as much as I thought. Upon arrival, had it not been for the sign postings, I'd never had found the temporary lobby. The signs were clear and appreciated. When I got to the desk the attendant was very friendly and helpful. I asked some questions about the area and she told me some good places to visit and gave me directions. My room was locat... Read more

Recently joined this site so that I can give feedback to all the wonderful (and not so wonderful) places I stay. I traveled here in December for a weekend to catch a Chargers game. In my experience, the less time I spend in the hotel I'm at, the better my trip is. I like spending my time outside of where I'm staying and experience the local spots. I only have one real complaint, and that is that parking is a nightmare. The spots are very small with not a lot available unless you're willing to wa... Read more

This used to be a hidden gem Holiday Inn but something happened and now its the Portofino. I stayed here in March when it was undergoing renovations but for a very low rate, as it should be for any place undergoing major renovations. In March stayed in one of the newer rooms but it was by no means finished. Fixtures jutted out of broken drywall, the shower floor was lined with looked like the wall tiles which was dangerously slick, not designed to be used as flooring at all. Booked again for ear... Yes this place is going through renovation, and i was not too impressed as I was walking through the garage and the lobby. However, I was awestruck once I entered the 2nd floor where the renovated rooms are present. Room was in awesome condition, modern fittings including USB charging slots. Location wise, this is pretty good as well - 15min from zoo and 25min from sea world. Also, lot of restaurants near by. Yes, as you read other reviews the hotel is indeed under renovation. Once you enter your newly finished contemporary minimalist style monochromatic beautiful hotel room none of that will matter! it is so tastefully done you feel as though you're in a 5 star resort. They have thoughtfully kept all construction to the main level and not where your rooms are located. The location of the hotel although seemingly off the beaten path if you're not a "Sandiegan" it's actually very close to everything... Read more

I actually made my reservation directly through Portofino Inn and not via Hotels.com or some other website - so I was completely shocked when I arrived at 10pm and couldn't even figure out how to get into the hotel. Once inside I was very disappointed to see drywall dust and untiled floors leading the the makeshift lobby. This was not the pictures I had seen on the internet. However, the room I was assigned had been renovated and was very modern - there were some finishes that weren't complet... Read more

This hotel has the thinnest walls I've ever experienced in a hotel. You can hear every conversation in the hallway, kids running late at night, the person coughing next-door. It looks like they have been remodeling it so it looks nice for the most part. It is hard to find parking at night and the spots are very tight. I'm hoping our rental doesn't get damaged. The air conditioning in the room goes on and off and rattles but at least when it is on it drowns out the noise. It is one of those windo... Read more

This hotel is very accessible to restaurants, tmobile shop and etc because it is situated in a strip mall. Nice and quiet. Brand new rooms. But parking is $12, that's the only downside. Lol. I hope they can work on free parking or include it with the nightly rate.

From check in to check out, the consistently pleasing efforts of the staff at this HGI were amazing. I was particularly impressed with the lounge and dining area. As well when I needed a place to hold an impromptu learning session, I was offered an amazing rcomfereence room and told there would be no charge. From the cleanliness of the facility to the courtesy of the staff I was impressed

Nice and new HGI! Definitely not your typical HGI, if anything, it's much more refined and elegant. Rooms are great, I was surprised that our room had a balcony. Since it's a new hotel, there's still a lot of minor fixes that need to be done, such as uneven tile in the bathroom, missing a lock on the bathroom door so there was a hole in the door, missing towel rod, carpet threading, etc. TIP: Avoid a lower numbered room X01 - X14 I believe? Those rooms face the freeway which you can totall... Read more

Went to visit my friend for one night, it was quiet and clean. The staff was friendly and very helpful. It's not really located close to the excitement, but it's about a 15 minute drive. Also take a uber instead of a taxi, its half the price.

We stayed 4 day in this hotel for a part of our vacation to Los Angeles, Las Vegas and San Diego. - The reception person was very very nice and welcomed us in very professional way, and since we have kids she gave us room near the swimming pool to be easy for us to access the pool. - The hotel is very very clean with very nice smell. - Cleaned room every day. - Roos has refrigerator and microwave. - Beds are super comfortable. - Very good location you can walk to gas station, jack in the box re... Beautiful d├ęcor, immaculate rooms, and easy access off the freeway! Beds are super comfy and the staff is really nice. The hotel has recently been renovated, so the price is definitely worth the brand new rooms. It's just north of Qualcomm stadium off I-8/I-15, so I highly recommend it to anyone with sporting events or activities in the east county area. This hotel is much nicer than anything you will find in Hotel Circle for a comparable price. We will definitely be back!!!

Good overall. Loved to 50" TV, very comfortable bed. Didn't like that there was no closet and had to look at my clothes on the portable closet all the time. Also didn't like that there was no counter space in the bathroom to place my personal items. I was surprised when I returned to my room at 9PM after leaving at 7 AM and my room had not been made up at all.

It was one of my best experience. The staffs are very friendly. Food at the restaurant were great. I love the gym. The value for the stay was perfect. This hotel would be my regular hotel when I return to SAN Diego area whether for business or personal.

$9.00 for a glass of beer at the bar was to much. Not a problem there are plenty of other places to eat and get the exact same beers for almost half the price. I will be back for 3 weeks in January into February and I will not be using the bar or restaurant. The staff and the hotel as a whole is excellent.

Overall evaluation was very good. Stayed here to be close to the stadium for a football game. A recent renovation made for some nice rooms with modern amenities. My only complaint was the parking. It's limited and if the have any groups at the hotel then you're parking in side streets. When I was there they had the parking garage closed for steam cleaning and striping. Had to walk in from very dark side streets each night...not a safe situation. They wanted to still charge for parking each night... Read more

Such a great location if you don't want to be in congested area of San Diego downtown. The comforting room after a long day was extremely clean. I felt safe! Easy check in and out, with the friendliest staff. It's been a while that I have actually wanted to share an experience at a hotel I have stayed at, usually I just bypass the surveys! Thank you and I will be a returning guest at this location.

This review is way overdue. :) We would like to recognize Anai the hostess for the great experience while in San Diego. We found her wonderful inviting smile first thing while walking down for breakfast and was immediately greeted with a smile and warm welcome. It was much appreciated! She was very friendly, helpful, informative, and has such a great uplifting personality. We were more than pleased to be served by her that morning. She leads a great example for the staff. Second time staying here, first since being remodeled. Nice new feel. Lobby/Bar area very modern. Great staff. Clean, modern, nicely appointed rooms. Comfortable beds but pillows were a bit too soft and not any firmer options. Otherwise great place to stay.

Beautiful new hotel near the military housing! Service was great! Rooms were very clean. Pool was cold although it was touted as being heated. The hotel was quiet even though there were quite a few soccer teams staying there for a tournament.

We stayed here for a family event and found it to be a very nice hotel for the price. Conveniently located right off of the 15 Fwy. Large rooms, very well laid out with plenty of power and USB outlets. Nice large TV and plenty of storage. We appreciate the fridge, microwave and Keurig coffee maker.

Over all the trip was good minus discomforts with lenins , window blinds house keeping of room. All day we were in site seeing and when we come back we expect some good lenins to be warm and sleep better. It's not we can't adjust with what we get , too tiered to call house keeping and get washed ones. Expected at least alternate days lenins are changed. In our 4 day stay they are never changed. Felt like the floor also not vacuumed

Several soccer teams stayed at this hotel during our stay at Thanksgiving. During our last night a number of kids were running up and down the hall upstairs late into the night not allowing us to sleep. My wife mad several calls, but the staff and security seemed helpless to resolve the matter. Don't know that I want to stay here again if this level of service is to be expected. Other than this, the hotel was nicely kept and the room was spacious.
