The units are quite dated, however very clean and comfortable. The staff was very friendly. Plenty of amenities. Close to major roads for those who spend most of their time away from the hotel. Great breakfast. Very nice gym and pool area. We grabbed a very competitive rate from a discount website and it was way worth the money. Should have paid more honestly.

This hotel is a little bit older, but well taken care of. When I first checked in, there was an issue with the balcony door. I called the front desk and they sent someone up immediately with keys to new room. They upgraded me to a deluxe suite for free and the man who came to help me change rooms was extremely nice. The room was clean with a very comfortable bed. The balcony with chairs is a nice bonus. The pool and hot tub area were very nice. The location of the hotel is fantastic as it is... Read more

I recently stayed here a week while on vacation. The rooms were clean and comfortable. A little on the cozy side, but for the amount of time I spent there, it fit the purpose. The on site restaurant was reasonably priced and very good. The staff was super friendly and helpful. Theresa and Ben at the front desk were awesome as well as Jeff, the shuttle driver. Would definitely stay again.

I was there for three nights for my aunts wedding and it was a total cluster from the moment we arrived. A block of rooms were reserved for the guests and wedding party and upon check-in, we were spread throughout the hotel, staff was not helpful in preparing for the reception or in accommodating our needs. The bride and groom called early to see if their room was ready, and also discovered they didn't have a room reserved! Upon checkout, I was also charged twice for the parking (once and the di... Sara, Ben, and Theresa in the front office took such great care of us and upgraded us to a pool view with a balcony. When we inquired to stay an extra night Theresa helped find us a great deal and made sure we could afford another night and still keep our room. Also, we were pleasantly surprised by the breakfast and dinner. The two meals we ate downstairs were so much better than we expected and we would definitely stay there and order the same food again!

We stayed here for four days in June for my brother's graduation. Family members came from all over the United States for this occasion, and since we seldom see each other, it was important that our rooms be as close to each other as possible. Sarah booked our reservation and was VERY accommodating and made sure that we got the best deal possible and we're comfortable during our stay. Jason, at the front desk, was awesome! He made himself available and made very helpful dining recommendations an... Read more

This was an inexpensive place on Hotel Circle, but still really nice for the price. Free wifi, and comfortable beds and pillows. Couple of minor things ... the bathroom really fits one person only, unless the other is showering; there is no elevator, so be prepared to carry your stuff up a flight of stairs (it's only 2-story and built prior to the Americans with Disabilities Act); the parking is a bit cramped and cost $14, which I wasn't a big fan of, but (sigh) it's Hotel Circle. Otherwise, it ... Read more

I purchased coupons for discounted rates at this hotel through a promotion at work. And I was able to reserve a room the day before our arrival. Once we arrived to San Diego, we found the hotel in a very central area, immediately off the freeway and near many restaurants, the mall, AMC movie theaters and San Diego zoo's and beaches. Customer service was the BEST! Any staff we came across with, whether it be the front desk or the maintenance guy, were so pleasant, helpful and cheery. (Some... Read more

At arrive I requested to be placed near the others I was traveling with then placed in a room far from everyone one else. I was in ROOM 227 it is located at the end of the entry near the back door all night people came in and out. At one point heard a dog barking. I was not aware they were a pet friendly hotel.. This room is right next to the ice maker that keeps going off through out the night. The following morning I asked to be moved according to the attendant at the front desk they were not ... Read more

We were pleasantly surprised, the checkin agent was very pleasant and we felt valued as customers. We opted for the Premier Room, these are overlooking the pool and much closer to the main part of the hotel. The bathrooms are a little on the small side, but perfectly fine for a hotel in the price range. Some rates include parking, if your rate doesn't the charge seemed very reasonable. The standard rooms were dotted around in the style of a motel, these rooms are away from the pool area and... Read more

As a traveling soccer/baseball/football parent, I have NEVER stayed at a hotel that did not offer complementary water and coffee/tea at the entrance for their guest. You Need to update to 21st century travel times. Breakfast was the same thing every day-thumbs down. Wanted to charge me 3$ for small to go coffee. Also, business office has ONE computer which seems odd for the size of the hotel. Computer was slow, at least 10 years old. Need some updates- many need/like to still print boarding pass... Read more

We recently stayed 5 nights at the Handlery SD with our two children. The room was on the small side which was in keeping with the affordable room rates. We attended a conference which was located at the hotel and could not fault these facilities we also enjoyed the pool at the end of the day. The biggest BONUS to the Handlery was Jeff the shuttle bus driver and Cameron and Tanya who served us at the bar.

We stayed for three nights recently and loved it. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. We received complimentary breakfasts at Postcards restaurant. The pancakes were the best we had in USA! I was very thankful for the complimentary bus that drove us to tourist attractions nearby. It was also within walking distance to a major shopping centre and restaurants.

Sad to say not one of the cheapest hotels and certainly not one of the best . No staff to collect Bags as bell boy " doesn't start work till 11 am " ?. Staff scruffy and left to fend for themselves with no management . Parking $14 a day , why the car park is empty . More like a cheap motel than an hotel would advise giving it a miss .

We stayed at the Handlery in San Diego and had a really great time. Staff was friendly and helpful. The rooms were comfortable and the restaurants were fine. The hotel is also centrally located close to the major attractions. We will definitely stay here again next time we go to San Diego. Thank you for a great experience!!!

I enjoyed our stay here, fortunately our family reunion organizer visited the location and worked out arrangements for our breakfast and main dinner gatherings, in addition to parking and planned social events. The staff was very amenable and attentive to requests. The rooms are small, but comfortable. It is summertime, so rates reflect the season, but were reasonable. There's nothing too nice about this hotel but it's a good price and in a good location right on hotel row close to the zoo, Sea World, and 10 min drive to Sunset Cliffs area and Mission Beach area so all in all this place is a good option if you're looking for an average hotel. The pool area is pretty nice compared to the rest of the property.

We have stayed here several times. Always made to feel welcome. The staff, in all categories, are extremely helpful. The pool is well utilized by adults and children. There is jazz on Friday evenings. We had dinner Friday evening, having the music in the background, so that we could have conversations with family and friends. The service was unobtrusive and we spent several hours catching up. If needed, there is an Enterprise Car rental agency on-site. There is a hotel shuttle service t... Read more

We went here for 2 nights as part of our roundtrip through California. The room had a good size with two bed's. Ubable to say if it were big 1 person or small 2 person beds. Bathroom small but clean. Breakfast was an Amwrican style breakfast. To much. The pizza's were American, to thick, to much chees and therefor to mighty. Personel was very friendly.

The staff is outstanding and very attentive. The rooms are fairly basic and the pool is good for kids and families. The food is ok. It is not on the higher end but has all the basics. Actually--order the pizza! Very good. The shuttle and driver were very helpful and really is perfect if you don;t want to drive to the local attractions.

We stood at the Handlery for 2 nights while being in beautiful San Diego for our sons travel sports team tournaments. We were very disappointed. We got a discount on the room rate for booking with the group but still paid about $150.00/night. This place was so not worth it. The hotel is old with bandages all over basically. Positives: Very good customer service, nice grounds, clean and conveniently located. I would stay again. Negative: They do charge for parking which is annoying considering you are already paying to stay at their hotel. Regular rooms and bathrooms are a little small if you have more than two people staying with you.

My room in the Point Loma building was horrible. The carpets are old and there is a strange smell in the room. The toilet seat was peeling and the shower is hard to maneuver. Both nightstands were filthy and full of dust. I found live cockroaches in the bathroom, two of them! The restaurant does not have soymilk, almond or coconut milk. Stayed for 4 nights for a conference. Nice little hotel... It's a little out of the way for a vacation stop, there would be plenty of other options. Courtesy bus is a nice touch. Clearly this is an older hotel with a need for updating. In fact, there wasn't even an elevator in the wing where I was staying so I had to carry my luggage up a flight of stairs. Staff was available to take my luggage upstairs, but still... no elevator? My room was comfortable enough. The king sized bed was quite comfy. This place is not a five star hotel, but it doesn't claim to be. For what it is, it suited us just fine. It was reasonably clean if not absolutely pristine. The staff was friendly and helpful (they let us check in at 9:30 in the morning -- not something that we expected), the facilities were nice enough, and the location is central to everything in SD. San Diego's Hotel Circle features some extraordinary bargains for those on vacation. For a business meeting, well, that's another story. The Handlery has been a go-to hotel for my business engagements for some time, and I don't fault it for comfort and, if your meeting is right there at the hotel, the convenience. I think most folks who access Trip Advisor are looking for information about tourist sites and amenities. Hotel Circle (where the Handlery is located) is probably not the best pro... Read more

Myself and three other friends stayed here for four nights. The staff were extremely friendly and answered any questions which was very helpful. We had 2 breakfast vouchers each for free and we had a choice of pancakes, yoghurt and granola or an American breakfast. We were really pleased with this as we didn't expect it! The portions were good. The pool area was lovely and we were lucky enough to have a balcony room overlooking the pool. Couldn't fault our stay!

If you're going to stay at the Handlery, you've got to get there first. Chances are (very, very high) that you'll get there by car, because it's really a sprawling motel hard by I-8, surrounded by a giant parking lot. You'll pay about fifteen bucks for the privilege of parking there. You certainly would not have paid that - or anything - circa 1970 when the place was built with an eye on maximum value engineering and ROI for its owners. We stayed one night at the Handlery. We didn't see or use... Read more
