"It is what it is, I don't require a lot when traveling a bed and solitude is pretty much what I need. However, I was disappointed in my room selection, had I known I was being put on the 1st floor and I would booked else where or requested an upgraded room. So, learn from my mistake, request a harborview room or suggest not to be put on the 1st floor. Unless you require easy access in and out of the hotel.
For a king room it was quite small, my friend had a room on another floor with 2 queen beds and it was large with an awesome view of the harbor. He lucked out.
Other than that, it's a good location, the staff is friendly and I'm sure do what they can to accommodate when possible, I just got a weekend when it was booked solid.

"The first thing I noticed about the hotel room was the smell. It did not smell fresh and clean, even though it was a non-smoking room. The beds were comfortable, and I liked having a balcony. The pillows were small. The room contained a nice size refrigerator. I was disappointed in the size of the vanity in the bathroom area. It was too small. Also, the floor in front of the vanity was uneven. It seem like there had been remodeling and the floor had not been leveled. This could be felt through the carpet. The carpet needed a good cleaning, especially against the walls. There was an iron in the room, but no ironing board. The tv was a nice size with a good quality picture. Complimentary breakfast was good.
The men that worked the hotel shuttle were very nice and did a great job.
The big issue I had with the hotel was with booking. I had booked 2 rooms for my family. My daughter and I arrived on time and took one room (as planned). The rest of my family did not arrive that day because their flight had been cancelled due to bad weather. When I checked in at the hotel, I told that to the lady that worked there. I also told her that they would be there the next day. When my family did arrive the next day, we found out that their reservations had been cancelled, and there was not a room available for every night they needed one. The lady at the front desk did not seem to care about how much trouble this caused my family. (This was a different lady than the worked the previous night.) She didn't say 'I'm sorry'. The manager has not returned my call concerning this matter. I am very disappointed in management.

"This was the worst experience ever!! First, the hotel was extremely dated, from the building itself to the rooms. The pictures on this web site were definitely taken years ago. The girl at the front desk was rude, when we got to our room the sliding door was open (the lock was broken) and the room smelled. I called the front desk & they sent some random guy to give us keys to a new room. The guy showed up in jeans, a t-shirt not to mention a black eye. Very unprofessional! Went to our next room and the keys didn't work. Went back to the lobby where the girl at the front desk was rude again. Spoke Spanish to another employee 'they claim the keys don't work & I know they do' unfortunately we understood what she was saying. Received keys to yet another room, this room stunk as well. By that time we were over this nasty place not to mention the employees were down right creepy. I would never stay here again and can't believe they even received any decent reviews. We called Book It and they arranged for us to stay in another hotel."

"Great location, good value. OLD and very, very small rooms. Would only go back if I could get a Harbor View room. Price was very reasonable. Arrived about 1:30 and couldn't get into room until 3:00 (actual check-in time), as early as people check out, seems like we could have been given a room, didn't appear to be other people asking for rooms. Once we saw the hotel, we begged for a harbor view room and even offered to pay for an upgrade, but they couldn't make that happen. This is a 2 Diamond hotel in AAA and if I had known that, I probably would have looked at a different hotel. Just remember, you get what you pay for! "

"I must say this is the worst experience ever!! First of all, the girl at the front desk was extremely rude. The staff was unprofessional, you couldn't tell who worked there no type of uniforms, not to mention kind of creepy. Hotel was completely outdated, nothing like the pictures shown. These pictures must have been taken years ago!! Our room smelled, the sliding door was open when we arrived and the lock was broken!! They had an employee with a black eye (wearing jeans & a t-shirt) bring us keys to a new room. Those keys didn't work, had to go back downstairs for new keys and the girl up front tells someone in Spanish 'they say the keys don't work' . She had total attitude & acting as if we were interrupting her day. On top of all this, just felt uneasy about staying here overnight. WThe only thing positive about this hotel was it's location and believe me that isn't enough to convince me to stay here ever!!"

"This was a mediocre experience. I went with BW because I was one stay away from a free night in their rewards program. As for the property: It was nothing special. We paid extra for the harbor view king and requested a rollaway for our daughter. When we arrived we had been placed in a dual queen. My wife and I can't sleep in a queen bed together. We flail and flop in our sleep. We recognize that. Thats why we book a king bed. The check in agent was able to get us back into a king harbor view. The logic for changing the accommodation was to give us an extra bed and avoid the rollaway. No harm no foul. When we got in the room the AC was extremely loud. The AC/heater compressor for the hotel was right over head. I'd avoid rm 609 in the future. As for the harbor view that was nice. The road noise compounded the loud ac/heater could be a little much. Our daughter rarely slept past 6am which meant we rarely slept past 6am. Free parking was awesome and we didn't have any trouble finding space. The free breakfast was a money saver. The balcony was small to the point of uncomfortable. The free wifi was nearly unusable. I spent alot of time in the business center replying to work emails because I couldn't maintain a connection in my room or hotel lobby. The cost of the room was great. We felt safe. The room was clean. We'd stay here again. We'd even recommend it as long as we could provide the caveats above. If your looking for a clean low dollar place in Point Loma this fits the bill."

"Good value but be prepared for a small room. The staff are very friendly and attentive - we had a couple of issues where we needed the maintenance man and he was very accommodating. We also used the shuttle to our whale watching cruise and our driver was great. Fresh baked cookies and hot beverages in the lobby were a nice touch. The breakfast is fairly typical and does include waffles and hard-boiled eggs but the breakfast room was usually crowded so we ate in the lobby. The location was great, especially if you have a car as you would take Harbor Dr. to the airport, cruise ships and harbor cruises, USS Midway or downtown, Little Italy, Hillcrest, and the other neighborhoods. In the opposite direction, it was a short drive to Pt. Loma and the Cabrillo monument or over the hill to Ocean Beach. Good restaurants right across the street and Vons and Trader Joes about a mile away."

"Enjoyed our one night stay very much. Staff was friendly upon check in and gave a couple restaurant recommendations that fit our needs (evening: simple fish & chips type place (Point Loma Seafood.. very good); morning: locally owned breakfast place (Breakpoint.. more a bar that serves breakfast, but food was good, and gave a beach ambiance). Breakfast looked good--included DIY waffles--but we wanted a more egg/bacon meal. Room was clean. Bed was very comfortable. We didn't have a direct harbor view, opting for a cheaper rate, but it was fine.. saw the sun set over Point Loma penninsula. All in all, a nice, modern, clean hotel near the harbor, close to downtown without the downtown hassle."

"Not fancy but good basic accomodations. Best perk was the shuttle to/from airport and cruise dock. Freshly baked chocolate chip cookies in the lobby in the afternoon. Free breakfast was good - included make your own waffles - but seating is limited. Grocery store is about ten blocks away, convenience store about three blocks away. Pizza restaurant across street was excellent. Requested a high floor room away from the street noise and was given a second floor room right against the street. Got a more helpful front desk clerk the next morning that let us move up to the fifth floor a few rooms farther away from the street. Was a smoking room but didn't smell at all. Pool is right next to the street so we did not use it. Free parking and wifi but didn't get good wifi in our first room. Appreciated the microwave and fridge in the room. Need a rental car or expensive taxi for sightseeing.
Make sure to schedule 1/2 day to visit the USS Midway downtown. Talking with the men that served on the ship makes it a memorable experience."

"Good, no fuss, booked online. Rooms good size, clean and well serviced; having the microwave and fridge is great and always draws us to Best Western.
We used the pool and hot tub, the bubble jets are on the fritz but we still enjoyed the opportunity to relax. Staff gave us a great tip for mexican restaurant (the real stuff) and advice on the town, very helpful.
Yes the breakfast room is a little small and stuffy, but thats the only drawback.

"We spent the recent Friday and Saturday evenings at this hotel. The good:; the Staff at the front desk were outstanding, full of information, suggestions and very pleasant We used the shuttle to return to the airport and the service was flawless. Now the bad; our room was not cleaned or beds remade on Saturday morning. We had to get clean linens and towels and take care of it ourselves after a long and tiring day of sightseeing. The breakfast is fine as far as the food goes but, it is located in what appears to be a converted guest room. Too small, too warm and no atmosphere whatsoever. We had to take our food and sit out in the lobby due to the lack of tables and space. The hotel location is somewhat removed from the major attractions and require expensive cab service to get to most places you will want to visit.n . "

"This hotel was everything we needed,central location,good public transit nearby.
10mins to downtown,10mins to old town(have $1beer from4~6pm @O'Hungry's).
There's a place near the fisherman's landing with great seafood tacos !! go around 8~9pm and watch all the fisherman showing off their catch.

"Hotel was very adequate. Certainly not elegant, but had everything we would need. The location was perfect for all the festivities we had to attend and convenient to the airport and downtown, Point Loma, etc. Air conditioner was very noisy. Traffic noise was bad if door left open. Rooms clean. Breakfast area very crowded and not large enough. Had to take our food to the lobby several times. Late getting room made up and had to call for towels once. For a short stay it was enjoyable. Staff was very pleasant."

"We were impressed with the housekeeping staff.
We did have problems with some front desk staff who gave poor directions to the hotel and around town.
We were concerned about the pool which was marked incorrectly. In the 5 feet it was about 6 feet. Front desk said they'd have maintenance fix and there was some improvement.
Also, we told front desk to have the bathtub drain fixed as it was clogged and draining slowly. We were assure it would get fixed but it didn't.
However, since it was across the street from the ocean, you couldn't beat the price and location with cleanliness, so we would return again."

"I PAID IN ADVANCE, JANUARY, FOR MY JUNE 25 TRIP. I HAD TO PAY $76 TAXES AND A $100 DEPOSIT. WHEN I GOT TO THE HOTEL WHICH WAS TO BE A KING BED, BALCONY ROOM WITH A VIEW, AND WAS SENT TO THE SECOND FLOOR AT THE END OF THE HALL, OVER THE PARKING LOT, ADJACENT TO THE STREET WHICH IS WHAT I SPECIFICALLY ASKED IN JANUARY NOT TO HAVE DUE TO MY HANDICAP. IT WAS ALSO AT THE STAIRCASE, WHICH I ASKED NOT TO HAVE BECAUSE I WAS ALONE. IT WAS NOISY NIGHTLY UNTIL 4 AM. THE YOUNG LADY AT THE DESK, WHO CHECKED ME IN, SHOULD BE FIRED. SHE VIOLATED THE HANDICAP ACT AND WAS., THEY WERE NOT FILLED TO CAPACITY. THERE WERE ROOMS HIGHER UP IN SAFER HANDICAP ACCESSIBLE SPOTS.
THE MANAGER FOR THE DIVISION IN THE OFFICE, WAS EXCELLENT, INFORMATIVE AND HELPFUL.
THIS IS A 2.5 STAR HOTEL AT BEST OTHERWISE."

"I tried calling several weeks before my trip to tell the hotel that my flight had changed and that I was going to be getting in a while earlier before check in. Having previously worked at a hotel I thought that they would gather my name and reservation time to add to my notes that I will be arriving early. Instead I was told that I have to call the day off to see if they had sold out of rooms and if they hadn't then I would be able to get a room before the 3pm check in time. This was frustrating. I got there around 1pm and I'm told that I have to wait until 3pm to check in but they were glad to store my luggage in their storage room (where they keep all their extra supplies). What was I suppose to do for another 2 hours? When all I wanted to do was rest up from my 10 hours of traveling. Throughout my stay I noticed that the women who cleaned the rooms would start cleaning at 8:30 am. If they started to clean this early why wasn't I able to get a room until 3 pm? Another thing to note is that I received a room cleaning 2 times throughout my week long stay and although the women who clean the rooms do a fantastic job. The hotel should do something with the bedding. There wasn't a night where bed cover wouldn't come off. I believe they were using a bed cover a size too small. Also there was no fitted sheet. The bed had a mattress cover with a regular sheet placed on top. What is up with that? The last time that my room was cleaned I came back to the bed nicely made but when looking at it closer there were 3 stains on the comforter. Why would someone use these blankets when the bedding was stained? If I ever go back to San Diego, I would not return to this hotel."

"The room was not at all what we expected. We booked a King Suite with balcony for 3 (myself, my husband and 16 year old, that's why we wanted a suite) and when we got there, we found that the hotel doesn't even have suites! So we ended up with 2 double beds, 5 feet apart. No romance for us! I feel that the hotel description was also greatly exagerated - it was 'OK' but not nearly as nice as the pictures made it look. Mabye it did look that way 10 years ago, but not now. The free breakfast was stale rolls, apples (with the grocery stickers still on them) bananas and toast or bagels - hardly a $12 (or $50) value as stated on the web page!"

"Tiny room (King balcony), my husband and I brought our 2 year old on vacation and we barely fit in the room. The entire hotel was muggy, old and just plane gross looking. The bedding came off of the mattress everynight revealing super old mattress that grossed us out everytime. We had a view of a nasty parking lot with a bunch of old run down homes. The harbor is actually across a very busy, noisy street (we didn't even visit the harbor because of that). Breakfast was ok. I liked the waffles. Pretty much there were only two things that I can give a positive review on and that is the shower head was newer and had good pressure and all of the staff was very kind and helpful. We will not stay there again."

"Loudest hotel room I have ever been in. They put us in the corner room on the street. We didn't notice the noise until we got our son to bed in his pack n play. Then when it was quiet all the noises came to life. It sounded like we had a freeway running through our room. And then the airplanes would fly right overhead. Also, our refrigerator ticked like a timer was wound up not to mention when the compressor kicked on it sounded like it was taking off. I had to unplug the fridge and go get an ice bucket to keep our sons food and milk cold for the night. Then the air conditioner would kick on and it also sounded like a jet plane was taking off. I was finally able to fall asleep around midnight once the street and air traffic died down, only to be woken up again every time the air conditioner started up. It was almost comical how all of these sounds were going off one after another. We are lucky our son is a sound sleeper. I guess you can't say there isn't enough white noise. I went down to the lobby to ask about the fridge and mentioned how loud the whole room is. She said that all of the rooms face the road, so there isn't anything you can do about it. But actually if we had been in the furthest room to the back on the sides of the hotel it probably would have been better. I would have expected to have a quieter place and a working fridge when I pay over $100 for a room. Also, there is no elevator to the parking garage and the ramp is very long at the front door to cart luggage to your room. A little less convenient when you have kids stuff to lug up to the room. Staff were not overly helpful either or sympathetic to the noise issues. Pretty nice breakfast though and cookies in afternoon. Don't recommend if you want a good nights sleep. They need to invest in some better sound proofing. Also, We didn't like how we would have had to pay a $20 cancellation fee through book it. Otherwise we would have stayed at our other place one more night instead of suffering through a sleepless night."

"The Hotel has the most wonderful, friendly and most accommodating staff who is there to serve the guest. Three O'clock cookies was a rare treat. I would stay there again in a heart beat. The continental breakfast was a good continental breakfast. It would be nice if you could cook eggs instead of the hard boiled eggs, but you got your money's worth. The free parking was great also, since some of the hotels charge for parking. Don't be fooled by some of the reviews. The other guest were friendly also. I had a blast in San Diego. I stayed four nights. The hotel went the extra mile to make sure my trip was a great one. Four Stars to the Staff."

"We had a nice view of the Parking lot but could see a little bit of the harbor from our room. A maintenance worker opened our door without knocking or announcing himself. He asked my husband 'What are you doing in this room?' We were given the room by the front desk upon arrival. The maintenance worker said the room was due for repairs and that the room was not to be used. The front desk didn't know what was going on. There is no concierge service. We needed information and there was no one to answer. Great location-easy access to great eateries and attractions."

"First day I checked in the television did not work. The Cable wire was damaged ect. When I filed a complaint it was fixed within 24 Hours. My brother rented a room. Room # 502 and the bed was hard like brick. But when he changed the room to room #509 (great view of the harbor) every thing was fine. The room was clean the breakfast was good and we had a great view of the harbor."

"We enjoyed our 2 night stay. We had put in a request for a west side, upper room facing the harbor when we made the reservation 6 weeks in advance but did not get it. On the up side, my husband really enjoyed the complimentary apples in the lobby along with the coffe/tea table. The complimentary breakfast was very good also and had all the staples, including some healthy choices, which we enjoyed. Great to have free parking too. We would stay again if we returned to the area."

"The rooms were nice.even though when we arrived back to our room to find it wide open and maintence working in our room..couldn't they have done touch up paint after we checked out..I mean really. also a bad noise in the room all night couldn't sleep. Breakfast ha ha right cereal and yougart..i could have brought that at the corner store...Cruise was nice but we choose a bad weekend for weather (Froze) As for 'View' saw the pool and heard all the traffice going by. I would say the only nice thing was the room and some of the staff..I must say they are good at covering up with excuses not answers."

Took her a long time to get it all cleared up and waiting was frustrating. "Except for the first front desk woman who was there on Saturday, the rest of the staff were awesome. I wish I had their names so I could mention them. The room was great and the price we paid was remarkable thanks to being on Bookit.com at the right time. We would go to this hotel again. Location was soooo convenient to Old Town San Diego, Balboa Park, Seaport Village and all the tourist attractions. Breakfast was good and the HOT chocolate cookies were a nice treat. Even the apples were good!!! The only downside was that our friends needed to be at the airport by 5:30am and the shuttle didn't start that early."

"We stayed for 6 nights and it was great. A little noisy with road traffic and airplanes in the early morning...... Everything else was perfect. The rooms were clean, big and well looked after with regards to in room services. The hotel staff were very knowledgable with what to see and do and how to get there! Very helpful. A great location for all sightseeing as well. I would definately recommend it!"

We would definately stay there again. The service was excellent, our shuttle to the airport and help at the airport was very good. The driver saw to it that we had a porter take our bags to our airline check-in.
They serve a very nice breakfast with enough tables available. One of the nicest hotels I've ever stayed in."

"Checking in was ok. We got our key and went up to our room, opened the door and.....OOoops! Someone was already in the room. The poor lady flew off the bed and needless to say it was a rather embarassing moment. Went back down stairs and was told that no one was suppose to be in our room. Was given another room and the AC wasn't working. "
