We stayed for four nights in a studio type apartment. Instantly relaxing location, always feels good to be surrounded by expensive boats. Easy access to city and other attractions. We were short some utensils such as bottle opener and kitchen knife, but these were provided readily on request. Lovely walk along th... Read more

In celebration of our 30 year wedding anniversary we booked the Best Western Island Palms for four nights. We wanted to stay here because we met while living in San Diego and were married in Kilauea, Kauai- so this seemed to be the perfect place that had those two memories together. Although we thought it was a bit expensive, we got the King Suite in the Casa Del Mar building. We checked in on 14 May and requested a bellman help us with our bags (we were on the 2nd floor and there is no ele... Read more

Really nice hotel, looks out onto the bay oneside the maruna the other. The bar and resturant staff were really friendly, even though they had a surgery program on in the bar on their big tv's by mistake. Breakfast was really fresh and tasty and you could buy tickets for the zoo there at a discount rate which saved a lot of time. Overall worth a little extra cost.

We just loved this hotel. Everything about it is inviting and restful. The view is lovely out onto the harbour. All rooms look over the water due to the location & design of the building. It is very peaceful & serene. A real soul restorer. It is in a great spot for exploring San Diego. Close to all major attractions and freeways. The rooms are older but well maintained & very clean. On Shelter Island close to the airport and downtown. I love how laid back the island is, not tons of traffic like in the city but a 10 min drive to Old Italy or the Waterfront downtown. The hotel staff is always welcoming and does their best to honor requests. We prefer the Marina/pool side, vs the parking lot and road. Lounge is quite small but a lot of fun and the food is very good. We ate breakfast most mornings at the hotel and it was not included in the cost of our room. There are two pools... Read more

My family and I stayed at the Best Western Plus Island Palms Hotel in June of 2016. I've been to San Diego many times, but never visited Shelter Island. What a cool place! The hotel is located right across the street from San Diego Bay near the boat ramp, where you can watch fisherman heading out in the morning and returning in the afternoon. We have been meaning to stay here for some time and finally got around to it. Very nice room in "Casa Marina". 3rd floor overlooking San Diego bay. Nice balcony where we sat watching boats and ships go by. Very, very friendly staff! The restaurant looks out on all the boats in the marina. Across the street is a park with a beach on San Diego bay, and a sidewalk that u can walk as far as downtown if you like. This is a great place to stay.

We stay at the Island Palms frequently, and always enjoy it. The location on Shelter Island can't be beat! While the property is an older one (as all the Shelter Island properties are), we find the rooms are always updated, clean and comfortable. On arrival last week, it soon became apparent that our booking agent ( had let us down by failing to confirm a change of date with the hotel, which was subsequently fully booked. Our room had a marina view, which was beautiful. There is a walking path along the marina. You can then cross over and walk along the bay. The lower pool offered a marina view and was less crowed plus the Jacuzzi worked where the one off the lobby only had two jets working. Would stay here again for sure! We thought restaurant a little pricey, but service & food good. We also found nearby Jimmy's, Miguel's and Pizza Nova to be excellent.

Very nice rooms, and if you are going to a concert at Humphreys is easy walking distance. Love the Marina view, worth the extra couple of bucks to have that view, very relaxing. Only complaint no regular coffee in rooms, only decaf, I guess they ran out of regular coffee to leave in the rooms. But other than that a great place to stay!

Chose this location for the view and easy drive to the city on Harbor Drive and was not disappointed. Had requested an upper floor with city view and wish was granted. Parked across the street as others had suggested with no issues. There is a small pier where many local fisherman participate in their sport. Was a concert at the hotel next door the first night we were there but heard nothing and had no problem parking. Back of the hotel has a view of the many boats in the marina at the foot of a... Romantic getaway on the bay. Many of the rooms here have a view of the bay so you can watch ships and other watercraft pass by looking out the window. Other rooms have a view of the yacht marina. The park across the street allows for walks along the bay with the view of the beautiful skyline of downtown San Diego. Some occasional loud noise from military aircraft may bother some people but not us.

The marina side is best for views. Recommend the 2nd floor rooms because of people walking past the ground floor rooms very often. The rooms in the newer buildings are nicest. Nice room. Very clean. Comfy bed. Sitting area outside of our room overlooked all the boats. Great spot for an evening cocktail before dinner. It's nice but needs more attention from staff to pick up used towels. Overall, a very nice vacation.

Good thing we weren't staying very long as the room might have gotten claustrophobic! The bathroom was huge, however! Great location to downtown. They charge for parking a car, however. They did keep our bags for us after we checked out so we could sightsee for the day.

This is a beautiful resort on Shelter Island. The Marina views are gorgeous and peaceful with a patio to enjoy them from. Rooms are large and spacious and include refrigerators and microwaves. Nicely decorated Rooms and very good condition. Everyone was very helpful and nice. My only issue is there was no free breakfast and the restaraunt on the property was fairly small and had very limited menu and a bit on the pricey side. No where close to walk to but lots of places to eat if you want to dr... Read more

Stayed for three days at the Best Western Island Palms. My husband and I had stayed years ago and enjoyed the hotel, but our room had no balcony. This time we had a room with a balcony overlooking the marina, and it was well worth the added cost. The room was large and included a kitchenette. The hotel is separated into different buildings, and ours was a bit dated, but very clean. It was nice to get up in the morning and enjoy a cup of coffee on the deck overlooking the boats and paddle-boa... Read more

My husband and I decided to visit San Diego for our ten year anniversary and saw this hotel on orbitz at a great price and booked it. We weren't sure what to expect but when we arrived we were pleasantly surprised. As soon as we walked into the lobby we were greeted by a young woman named Natasha. Natasha's great customer service is something you don't encounter everyday. She instantly made us feel welcomed and made check in a breeze. When we walked into our room we were overwhelmed with how ... Read more

We looked at a number of places in the area we needed and this was the most reasonable and I don't think the service and quality can be beat. We had an excellent stay. The view out our door, convenience of location and parking were great. It was super quiet and we slept well. Loved that!

It was an amazing experience. We are middle of the island and one side is a yatch marine and the other is the ocean. Breakfeasts are quite well. San Diego is ne of the place in the States. Best Western is close everywhere yet you need a car it would be better to travel in West Coast.

For one night stay in San Diego near airport, this hotel had it all. Staff was great, so was the view..but isn't it always sunny in Southern California? Easily accessible from highway, airport and yet far away to give you feeling like you are on vacation!

This hotel is not bad in itself, in fact we were upgraded to a suit, which was very welcome, and was very nice. We had a small kitchen area, so were able to make our own breakfast, thus saving a bit of money too. The facilities here are nice, two pools, a small fitness room, a nice restaurant and a bar. It is out of town, so be prepared to drive if you want to eat off site. The big down side is the noise. The hotel is right across the water from the naval airbase, and flights start very early in... The bed was comfortable and had many pillows. The room is a good size for two people. We liked the fridge and microwave. The view was beautiful. When we asked for an extra chair, it arrived quickly. The hall smelled musty but the room was great. Must be ready to take some stairs to get up to the 2nd floor. The key swipe was easy access to the rooms. The flat screen TV was a good quality. Overall, a great place to stay.

This was a great way to relax, visit with friends, see all the sights of San Diego, enjoy a sunset, visit farmers market in little Italy, dine at seaport village, see Coronado and get away for a while to renew spirit and wind down from a busy schedule. Our view of boats and bay was great.

We settled on this hotel due to the extremely affordable price and location. We were upgraded to a room with a marina view and comped parking because it was my birthday! The first room we were sent to hadn't been cleaned yet, so they immediately sent someone up with new key cards to a different room. The rooms were clean, beds comfortable, and overall quiet. We didn't hear any neighbors, just the occasional person walking down the hall. The only drawbacks were the phones didn't work and we ... Read more

We ended staying at the Best Western, and I am used to staying at very high end hotels. I have to say this hotel was better than many of the high end resorts that I have stayed at, including the Grand Californian Hotel Disneyland. I would highly recommend it!

Our son surprised us with an overnight stay for our anniversary which he booked with Korrey at very last minute. She was so helpful and made sure everything was as he wished. We had a lovely clean, comfortable and quiet room with a view of the Marina. It was lovely. The next morning we had a delicious breakfast at their Blue War Bar and Grill and was waited on by Robin. What a gracious waitress. Our whole experience was so special; we would definitely think of doing it again!

I booked this trip through Groupon as a weekend getaway. When I arrived I was very happy to see that we were in a great location just about 4 miles from Downtown San Diego. I checked in and was greeted by Danny at the Front Desk. Danny was very kind and helpful with checking us in. He had informed us that there were free bike rentals, pools/Jacuzzis , tennis courts, gym and restaurant on site. Danny had let us know he had rooms available with views looking at the marina and one on the bayside a... Read more
