The best part of this hotel is that it is on a river. Sleeping in a ships quarters was a nice experience. The room was cozy and cute. Sitting out on the deck in the early evening was a pleasant time for us. The free breakfast the next morning was very good and plenty, with a view of the river and the wildlife. We watched a sea lion, geese and ducks make use of the river. Only two negatives were a long way to carry luggage from car to ship without any help and I was almost charged again after I h... I stayed on the city side of the boat, rear-most room. The room had a Queen bed with comfortable linens, a TV with satellite channels, a small desk and bathroom. The shower is a little small (as is the toilet area) but I am 6'1" 240 lbs. I was in Sacramento for a charity bicycle ride. I have to say that some of my fellow riders were quite envious as they stayed at a conventional hotel, and I stayed at a more interesting hotel. Since this is an old paddle wheel boat, it has all the flavor of su... Read more

If you are wanting a luxurious, spacious hotel room, this is not the place for you! It is however, an interesting and unique hotel. It is non ADA compliant so you can't go if there are any disabilities in your party. My room was on the end, facing the city side. It was a bit noisy and small. My room did not have a bathtub and I later found out there are only 3 bathtubs on the riverboat. The bright spot was the restaurant. Excellent food! You just have to get there early and don't expect the bar ... Read more

What a historic treat, great for the whole family. Our rooms faced out on the Sacramento River. Quite lovely. Wonderful accommodations and service. Valet service for a fee (well worth it!) We only stayed for one night, but we are definitely coming back to stay longer. The hotel is right in Old Town Sacramento near the train station and River Walk Park. The history of the Delta King is fascinating and makes the experience even more enjoyable. We can't wait to go back!

Had a lovely quiet room with river view, smaller room but it is a river boat. Air conditioned, tv, and very clean room. Consider that this is a very old river boat that had at one time been sunk in the San Francisco, you get a bit of nostalgia for a time gone from us. Be prepared to get your suitcase up and down stairs and parking is extra.

This is a unique place to stay. Waking up on a paddle wheel boat was great. If you have the chance, you need to spend at least one night on board the Delta King. It is great.... There is also a Bar and Restaurant on board.

I was prepared to give this place 5 stars before I even got there, because it seemed so fabulous! And it was, but...when I drove up to the valet service, no one was around. I sat there for a minute and then got out of the car, thinking that maybe I had to check in first and they would send someone to park the car and get my bags. No on both counts. As I got out of the car, a valet suddenly appeared out of nowhere, took my information, then told me to take my luggage down the ramp to the lobby to... Read more

We had to cancel our stay due to other arrangements with family that took us to another hotel but completely forgot to cancel until the evening of our reservation. I spoke to Cameron at the front desk and he assured me that we were sunk, told me I might try the manager later. BUT! Cameron called after 9 tonight to say that they were able sell the room and would credit our card. We read reviews about how small the rooms were, but this is a REAL steamship that has been refurbished. The room was a little small, but that is what I would expect, plus it was all we needed. If you want a big room, go stay at a big chain hotel, but if you want a piece of history and a really neat experience, stay at the Delta King. And then added to that was a really great breakfast included, the proximity to Old Town, and the nearby Railroad Museum. We came into Sacramento on Amtrak and... Read more

We purchased a travel zoo coupon for a one night stay on the Delta King. Not a very big boat so we were not expecting much. We really enjoyed our stay. The rooms are very small but still had all the same amenities, queen bed, tv, desk, coffee maker. Bathroom good size, closet in in the bathroom. There was lots to do in old town Sacramento so we did not spend much time in the room. We enjoyed cocktails and dinner in the bar and restaurant on the boat. If you are looking for a unique Sacramento vacation hotel, combined with a sense of waterfront history, consider staying at the Delta River King. The reason for our wanting to stay in Sacramento was to check off two more items on our bucket list: the California Railway Museum; and, Old Town Sacramento. When we learned the Delta River King is dockside to Old Town and 2 blocks from the museum, we concluded we would forego conveniences of a large, newer chain hotel on the outskirts of Old Town an... The Delta King is a wonderful historic stern wheel paddle boat that used to run between Sacramento and San Francisco. The lovely restored boat, which is docked on the Sacramento River in Old Town, affords the visitor a glimpse of history while enjoying comfortable and charming accommodations. Our room was on the top deck at the stern end. It was quiet and had a wonderful view of the Tower Bridge. We sat outside on the deck and enjoyed the sunset and watched the Tower Bridge lights come on. ... Read more

This was the second time we have stayed here and would return again. Perfectly placed on the river in Old Sacremento. We love all the history of the boat and the original features. Rooms are clean, food really good and everyone is so friendly and helpful. There's tables and chairs available on the decks, where you can sit with a glass of wine watching the boats on the river or a beautiful sunset. The railway museum next door is amazing and the Capitol building also worth a visit.

Hotels tend to fall into two categories ; places to stay and experiences in their own right. Delta King certainly is an experience. Staying on a converted , restored paddle steamer with all that history around you is an amazing experience and one to be cherished. As a hotel there are obvious shortcomings but these are part of the experience and if they bother you don't stay here. The rooms are tiny with no wardrobe or fridge but are charming all the same. Very cool Hotel right on the river and adjacent to the many bars and restaurants in Old Sac. Staying on an old paddlewheeler, maybe my expectations were off, but my room was really small. A toe stub possibility at every turn, low ceilings and had to step-up and duck at the same time to get in my bathroom. To be fair, I'm 6'5"- so if you're not, check it out, but ask for a bigger room, or at least get a sneak preview

I can forgive the tiny room, or the fact that there is an extreme slant that might just make you roll of the bed. But I can't forgive the terrible service, cleanliness or deception. Let's start with he call to figure out where the valet was. The clerk that answered was less than helpful, stating we had to cross the railroad tracks to get there. After realizing that was not the case, unless I wanted to run people over and drive on a walkway, we made another pass and finally found the tiny sign ... Read more

Wife and I took the Amtrak California Zephyr train from Reno to Sacramento. (5.5 hrs) We then walked from the trains station with luggage on wheels through 4 blocks of old Sacramento to the Delta King. Most all the sidewalks in old Sacramento are old uneven timbers (Similar to Railroad ties) with gaps between them. The "sidewalks" of old Sacramento are charming but NOT ideal for traveling with luggage. It took about 15 minute to make it to the Delta King. We were a tiny bit pooped. (Maybe Uber o... Read more

So we spent a night here midweek and we were certainly satisfied. It, as has been said, is not a 5 star place and feels just slightly down about the heels--like instead of new tile in the bathroom, they painted it. But it was clean and comfortable. When travelling around from hotel to hotel you begin to tire of the sameness of the large chains. You begin to look for something that is unique or different such as the Wigwam Hotels on Route 66. The Delta King is such an experience - yes the rooms are small but that is part of the charm. It's the period piece shower rooms with their brass taps, the toilets with high level cisterns operated by chain and the wood panelled dining room that help provide a more unique experience . The Delta King was a working riverboat in the '20's and 30's. Rooms are small, but clean. It is located in the heart of Old Sacramento and one can walk to many nice restaurants and museums as well as downtown and the capitol. Views of the river are great, especially at night. Breakfast was great as well. Parking is expensive and valet is slow because of where they have to park your car. After two or maybe three days the charm of the boat would give way to the smallness of the rooms.
