We stayed one night as it was so convenient for San Francisco, and we also wanted to visit Point Reyes (and stand on the other continental plate involved in the San Andreas fault!). The hotel was open about the ongoing renovations, and we got a good price because of this. We were fortunate, perhaps, that we stayed Thursday night, with little evidence of work as the weekend approached. On the fourth floor, we weren't troubled by traffic noise - I am not sure how the refurb will help, double glazi... Read more

There was a car show going on in the early evening, so the noise was expected, but after the show shut down, there were still very loud motorcycles and people until 2 a.m. Other guests warned us in the elevator. The room was very warm so you had to open the window's to get air flow. So way to avoid the noise but closing the window. The radiator valve was broken, so we couldn't shut it off to prevent more heat release. Had to call for help to do so.

We're stayed for one night only on our way to Napa and I am having rather mixed feelings about this hotel. I loved the old charm mixed with vintage elements which can be seen in the lobby and Front Desk area. The hotel was still under refurbishment with loud noise and dust everywhere but we were able to get a good room deal because of it. Our room was new and modern without missing the vintage charm. A little bit more attention to detail would have made a huge difference though. The bed was very... Read more

If you are looking for local color, a historic property, great location, and a friendly staff, you should choose the Hotel Petaluma. Some rooms are currently undergoing renovation complete with air conditioning and will come available this coming summer. In the meantime, if you are looking for all the comforts of home, be forewarned. Breakfasts were not available on the hotel, but there are many super choices within a block or two in old Petaluma. Parking is convenient and the hotel is pet fri... Read more

Booked a last minute room here without any high expectations. Hotel is really old and has a lot of character, rooms are nice, and staff was not the friendliest but they got us checked in. The hotel is under construction, so do expect noise in the morning. We got a room facing the street, which is REALLY noisy at night. Being from Los Angeles and living in the city I'm pretty use to noise, but the noise from the street was pretty insane. I didn't mind it at all, but just a heads up to those makin... Read more

We stayed for two nights recently and I thought it was a charming hotel. I knew construction was going on and everything that has been remodeled was very nice. The location was excellent and we could walk all around town. The wine/cheese bar just next door is not to be missed!

We just returned from a 3 night stay at the charming Hotel Petaluma. Otis is the coolest elevator! This hotel was built in the 20's and is currently undergoing renovation. The staff was very upfront ahead of time about the construction and what to expect from our stay. We were very pleased with Maria and the rest of the staff; they were super helpful and friendly. The hotel is centrally located with fantastic shops, restaurants, and local retailers. Our bedroom was the perfect size and the bed w... Read more

Recently renovated, but was still able to nab a room at budget hotel prices - probably because of the construction going on. The construction noise didn't bother me, as it was almost entirely when I was away from my room. The new rooms are nice, with wall mounted flat TV, Keurig coffee maker, new beds that are pretty comfortable. Bathroom has fancy soaps and shampoos. The AC was not up and running, but didn't need it. Shuttered room provided nice view of surrounding area. Plus, I like hist... Read more

Hotel Petaluma is a unique historic building and is currently under major renovation. I rated it low but if the renovations are well done it would be worth trying again. The plus side is the location. Hotel Petaluma is right downtown the quaint city center and wonderful restaurants, wine bars, and antique stores are in easy walking distance. The downside to our stay was the noise level at night even after the hotel construction stopped for the day. We were kept awake all night by vehicles and pe... Read more

I stayed for two nights there in July 2016. While we understand that the construction is being done, the quality of work is not up to any professional standard. This was the second time we visited the hotel mostly for historical reasons. The first time I found plumbing problems. This time the bathroom sink came off the wall where it was poorly mounted. The last morning I was trying to take a shower and there was no hot water at all. It seems that they lack the ability to inspect the work bei... Read more

The Hotel Petaluma is very promising. Promising to be better after the renovations. I was expecting to be able to use the courtyard as the hotel's website stated that it was "significantly restored." I have included pictures...the fountain is not plumbed (pipes were sticking up out of it - no water in it), there is plywood covering what I assume are windows, not all of the lights are installed. The bed was awful. I could hardly move when I woke up. Noise. We were warned of the noise - bot... Read more

With helpful and genuine staff and a beautiful old 'core' of a hotel, it will be an amazing place.... Sadly it is in turmoil currently with works underway inside and outside. The staff and the welcome letter don't hide this fact but even the adjusted, lower prices don't really compensate. The sound proofing between floors (all sounds transmitted via wooden floors) also need improving. It will be superb eventually and we will return for sure when the refurb is competed.

This place is a great location for strolling around the antique stores and restaurants in old Petaluma. The renovation in progress appears to be decent, but nothing spectacular. Cute little wine tasting establishment just off the lobby. But they are keeping the original Windows as part of the upgrade, and the street noise is the worst I've ever experienced in a hotel. I figured we we in trouble when disposable ear plugs were in place next to the coffee maker and it proved to be right. Also, the ... Read more

This was the last of our road trip hotels and was quite possibly the worst of the lot! Although it is centrally located, what we didn't know was that major refurbishment work was underway, so it was like arriving on a building site! Added to this was the fact that the air conditioning was yet to be installed, so on the very hot night we stayed we were reduced to using a noisy fan. They also have a 'character' lift which may or may not operate - I don't want a character lift, I want one that w... Read more

We were invited to a wedding nearby, and booked the hotel for its location primarily, and its reasonable pricing. What we didn't know, was that it was about to undergo a major renovation. I can see a fellow traveller has already mentioned the building site atmosphere of the place, so no need to harp on that aspect, I suppose. However, I would have appreciated friendly, sympathetic staff to help see us through our visit. They could have been a lot more informative and educated. Example: we... Read more

I found out weeks after booking this boutique hotel, in the heart of Petaluma, that the place was undergoing major renovations. I was given fair warning by the hotel, and didn't think much on it before showing up, but the hotel was undergoing MAJOR renovations, which means that the entirety of the floor I stayed on(or so it seemed) was being gutted save two rooms at the end of a long, dark hallway, one of which was mine. Everything is being redone from scratch, as can be seen in the amazing chan... Read more

Hotel has good beds, but staying here is like camping next to a construction site. With no AC, your choices are suffocation or road noise. Awakened by trucks passing at 2 am, I decided the room was cool enough to close the windows, but that couldn't dampen the morning commute beginning at 5 am. I LOVE quirky, historic hotels, and this may eventually be one, but right now it is just a construction site with nice beds and free wifi leading to sleep deprivation.

Yes it is rough around the edges due to ongoing construction, but if you like old and creaky with a touch of history, you'll appreciate this hotel. Perfectly located in charming downtown Petaluma, our room was comfortable with a large bathroom and shower. The AC and heating was non functioning but it did not matter during our one night stay. Obviously, there are variations in the rooms, but ours was not facing the street, so it was quiet. We liked the lobby with the welcoming fireplace and comfy... Read more

We (four women friends) stayed one night in adjacent rooms. The positive attributes about this hotel include the very friendly and helpful front desk staff; the historic charm; the pretty lobby with a wonderful fireplace (it was raining each day and the fire was very cheerful); and the proximity to the shops. But as noted in other reviews it was very noisy even though we did not face Washington Street. Even the free earplugs couldn't drown out the sound of traffic. Also, our room had a bathroo... I think this place will have great potential once it's completed. Its a cool old hotel in the heart of Petaluma. The room I had was comfortable, but no closet or place to hang your clothes. No chair for the desk...only place to sit was the on the bed. It can be noisy, but remember you are in downtown Petaluma on a busy street. However, the hotel really needs to look at who is doing the construction on this place....it is of questionable quality and workmanship. The tile in my bathroom stil... Read more

I had high hopes. I travel to Sonoma County frequently, and usually stay at the Metro in Petaluma. Thought I would give Hotel Petaluma a try. I booked my room online and made a special request for a quiet room. I called on the way to the hotel to inquire about parking. The front desk person wasn't really sure where I should park other than to say there was 2 hour free parking on the street. He was not clear about whether I could park in the bank parking lot overnight... I checked in, and ... Read more
