This hotel could be a five starts for sure if they invested some money in renovation. The common areas are ok - two pool areas that are very nice. The not so good point I have to say are the rooms, you can see that everything is old and time is paying it's tool. It's not a cheap hotel and I wish they would invest the money to improve things there.

My wife Linda and I (my name is Barak) have been visiting the Riviera for the past 2 years; and have recently enjoyed our latest trip this past weekend. I have another 3 visits already on the books and plan on adding additional stays. I'm sure some of you are questioning whats the draw? First ; this is a beautiful boutique hotel set against the backdrop of an imposing mountain landscape that offers a chic plush vibe when pulling up to the valet and entering the lobby. I tend to opt for inexpensive sleeping accommodations when I'm traveling because I rarely spend much time at the hotel, but we decided to book this resort for my birthday at the recommendation of a friend who lives in Santa Monica. I booked a room with 2 friends through Groupon for a Tuesday and Wednesday evening in mid-May for $160/night, which split 3 ways is a very good value for what you get. According to other reviews, guests easily pay more than twice this at peak times, so if you can mana... Read more

Me and my now feonce visited the States for the ultimate, 3-week vacation. I had stayed at the Riviera 5 years ago, and it was a must to visit again. This was the place I was really looking forward to taking my partner, and had told her how amazing the setting and service was. Unfortunately I did not have the same experience this time. There were 3 things that we feel that just have to be addressed, all in relation to the pool area. 1) The service and mess around the pool. We had to clear awa... Read more

We just got back from spending our weekend at the Riviera yesterday. My fiance and I visit Palm Springs AT LEAST 6-7 times a year and The Riviera has always been our go to hotel. Easy, affordable, good service, great rooms, clean, etc.... Well that was not the case this last weekend. I was told the hotel has a new GM, Martin Greenwood, so maybe that is part of the problem. He definitely needs to work on his customer service skills. After hanging out at the pool for hours waiting for our room ... Read more

I love the Parker in Palm Springs but could not get into the hotel on the Saturday night over Memorial Day so I opted for the other Starwood Hotel close to town, the Riviera. I had stayed once before right after the hotel was renovated and the service had been terrible. There have definitely been improvements in terms of service with friendly staff at the pool, at the front desk and throughout the property. Exceptional stay at Riviera. My wife and I were more than thrilled by the accommodations but more so, a personalized welcome amenity from the General Manager. I've stayed at this hotel many times over the years, and wrote my first (rave) review of it in 2010. But I stayed this past weekend and was incredibly disappointed. While the rooms are still nice (though had some problems there), the hotel is attracting a different crowd now. If you're into the meathead scene, then this is the place for you. But the pool was crowded, the DJ was horrible (I think he was playing songs off his iPhone, with silent gaps in between each track), service from bartenders... Read more

This was our first stop on our American trip and it was a great place to settle in! The room was huge with two queen beds and good sized bathrooms. There are two pools - one was more popular than the other as one had a live DJ however the other one had plenty of space as well. There were a lot of people leaving towels down early in the morning, so if you are there on a holiday weekend be warned that this happens! Luckily we were jet-lagged so wide awake quite early and managed to get good beds... Read more

I drove 2 hours to Palm Springs and was told when I arrived at the hotel that the hotel was closed for a private party and that I could not even park my car or go inside the hotel to find out what was going on. The only positive thing I can say is that the hotel management was quick to give me a refund. If only they could have refunded the time that I wasted. The complete lack of organization at the hotel was enough to make me never want to go back.

Absolutely LOVED the Riviera Hotel! From the friendly and helpful staff to the amazing hotel decor, I can truly say that this experience was the biggest treat of all. The hotel itself is on the outskirts of the town center but the walk didn't take too long. Will definitely return to this hotel for the next Palm Springs getaway. Thank you!

We were recently in Palm Springs to celebrate a friend's 40th Birthday and were attracted to the Riviera based on recommendations and reviews. The location of the hotel is great and the place has great potential. I would highly suggest that SPG pull out of this property as the current owner seems uninterested in keeping up with things. This could be a lovely place to stay. It's faded and tattered in public areas but it's the housekeeping,or lack of it, that disappointed. Back (way back) in our college days my wife and had, separately, both stayed at the Riviera during spring breaks. Now the trees are gown up around the massive, stylish swimming pool and in early August mid-week was predominently occupied with the 20's-30's crowd and several grandparents as us. Good shade at the pool in late (hot) afternoons. Construction was underway on a new, larger bar-lounge serving the pool area. Only one restaurant but excellent food and decor, not exactly a bare-foot, ... Read more

We stayed here for three nights while travelling from Vegas to LA. Check-in was simple and easy. The hotel layout is a little confusing as there are several buildings, however a map was given at check-in and we soon worked out our way around. There are several large pools and we always enjoyed a swim at night. The rooms can be a little noise as it is an old building and you can sometimes here kids running in the rooms above. I fell in love with this hotel from the moment we walked in. Everything from the hotel staff to the decor was amazing. The pools were a welcome relief from the desert heat. The spa was a good value and my massage was relaxing. The location is just a short uber ride to downtown. The only thing keeping me from giving it a perfect score was that the breakfast buffet was expensive for what was offered. All in all I highly recommend this hotel and I can't wait to go back.

So to get started this hotel is old. It is definitely not the type of place I am used to staying. With that in mind most places in Palm Springs are like this. However, this place is in the process of being renovated and some of the changes are amazing. The spa here is fantastic as well as the pool. The service for drinks at the pool was great. The food here is also pretty good. It is also close to the main drag and opens you up to walking around and checking out the area.

The luxuriant qualities derive more from the largeness of things than the quality of them: The bed was huge and high (and comfortable). The bathroom was huge too. Yet inconsequential workmanship issues (flaws the hanging of the wallpaper, wood trim around floor of bathroom, but who cares? I'm asleep & comfortable.) Mighty air-conditioning. Quiet campus.
