No other place in Monterey area that I would rather stay. It is beautiful calm and the staff is the best. I have stayed in many places in my life......this is the best for the money. Right on the beach. That's why you come to this place. Derek the manager and the Regional Manager will go out of their way to make your stay the best. I'm on a fixed income and I save to come here.

I stayed here for two nights for a family trip and was not impressed by this property. The pictures online made it look nicer than it was. For the price I believe that the amenities and service fall short. We had to request something multiple times before they delivered it and there was a long wait on arrival. The Kula Ranch restaurant food was not good (two of us were sick afterwards) however the wait staff were very friendly. The firepits on the beach and the beautiful beach location are the o... When you're paying over $500 a night for a room you expect that level of quality. Some may say you're paying for the location, granted. However, if that's a case there is a Days Inn (?Best Western?) RIGHT across the street and I'm sure their rate is 1/4 of this place. I worked as an operations manager for a major hotel chain for many years and I can tell you that if you're charging rates like this, your room needs to be PERFECT. Many little things that added up to the hotel not being in the be... Read more

My friends and I stayed here earlier this year. What a colossal disappointment-over priced and very poor customer service. Our room was dirty and the room service is so bad, I can't even. Golf carts would be nice if the setting was nicer-once you look away from the ocean, you're just in a parking lot gazing at the motels directly across the street. In reading the other reviews it appears the management is well aware of what sound like chronic and systemic issues and yet all they want is to hav... Read more

Two weeks ago my husband and I were first time visitors to California, traveling from the other side of the country. We were taking a 25th anniversary trip to a few different destinations along the coast. Sanctuary Beach resort was one of four properties that we stayed at. The cost was very reasonable, so I wasn't expecting much. We were coming from the bustling San Francisco area and were very happy when we arrived in Marina to get some quieter relaxation. Our first impressions left us pleas... Read more

I was impressed from the moment I walked in to the lobby, a nice fire place and welcoming staff. Check-in was easy and Derek made us feel very welcome. As the resort is quite large, each guest has their own golf cart to get around. The room...well it was simply amazing, another nice fire place, sea views, excellent attention to detail. Although it may be a bit expensive for some people, I would recommend staying, it's one of the best places I have stayed in in California.

Recently stayed here with my family for a quick two night trip, I think saying it was ok sums up the sentiment mostly in relation to the price. As a former timeshare owner, I saw similarities between this place (Wyndham property) and many timeshares across the country which have lost their luster and aging quickly. Rooms nice but outdated, amenities for the price lacked comfort like towels or grade of accessories. Beach is spectacular and you are less than a mile off the one which is very positi... Read more

Quiet resort 15 minutes away from the city of Monterey. Select a room with an ocean view! Binoculars are provided to help guests watch the whales and dolphin activity. We added the Couples Massage package to our stay which made for a very relaxing vacation experience! Restaurant with bar is on-site, and the town of Marina is just a short drive. We will definitely return!

Polished , professional staff. Check in is at 4 pm and I was called at 2 pm for early check in. Beautiful, out of the way setting, next to Marina State Beach. Each room has their own golf cart to travel back and forth to the parking lot and around the property. My adult son and I had a lovely Deluxe Suite. He slept on the custom made pull out couch, and we each had our own TV. The large bathroom had 2 sinks and two showers. The front desk was very attentive and delivered extra K cups of coff... It was a very relaxing stay at the resort, the view from the room was fabulous, very calm, with the fireplace just perfect. Bathroom was a great size, the terrace is lovely to sit and have a cup of coffee in the morning while watching the sunrise. Unfortunately we had a gloomy and cold day, it must be wonderful with a sunny weather, but still it had its charm. The golf carts are an added bonus. Only down point is that breakfast should be in the price, even if Lou Lou's in Monterey is near and hi... Read more

We had a fab stay at Sanctuary Beach Resort - mostly aided by the free upgrade. We had a fabulous suite right with an ocean view. It was such a cosy room, the weather wasn't great whilst we were there so we curled up in blankets and sat on the porch over looking the ocean before coming inside and enjoying the fire. We ordered breakfast room service which was prompt and very enjoyable.

What a relaxing vacay. The view from our balcony was awesome. Omg we were excited and shocked to see dolphins, sea otters and whales from our balacony. The staff were welcoming and provided great service to us. We already book our next trip there for this year. Our kids are excited to play in the pool and make smores at the bomb fire on the beach again.

Considering this was our most expensive stop on a 3 week road trip, it is definitely not worth the money. The hotel room felt very dated & tired, and in need of a serious refurbishment. The hotel advertised rooms having air conditioning but this didn't seem to be the case in ours. The noise heard from the adjoining suites & rooms can get irritating along with the general noises on site. The hotel beach is a bonus but in the end we used the room as a base to go elsewhere. Sanctuary Beach Resort's reservations are handled by a call center in Key West, Florida. When we made our reservations, we were guaranteed adjoining rooms. When we arrived, we were told we had been assigned rooms in two separate buildings. With on site management's consent, we agreed to take one room but not the other. On site management agreed to refund the deposit already charged to our credit card for the room we did not occupy. In the room where we stayed, the windows were covered with slime... Read more

An absolutely stunning property looking out over the crashing waves of the Pacific. At night I would open my door to my to fall asleep to the sound of the sea. Derrick and Biance went above and beyond during my stay giving me great tips for local "secret" eateries. Close to downtown Moneterrey. Great location. Would recommend to anyone looking for a retreat, and a place to unwind.

This was our second visit. Exactly one year from our last. It's a family and friends summer vacation. Last year, we stumbled upon this gem because of the "dog friendly" status. And it definitely is. Big bonus points for the great beach views and walking distance to the beach. I have only one complaint. The front office staff. Last year we tried checking in early. We booked the best ocean view suite. The rooms are clean but showing some wear. We had looked forward to using a golf cart but they dropped that a week before our visit. No notice was sent to us. The hot tub was not working until the last day. They need to have some staff police the pool area as people were changing diapers on the pool patio and putting diapered babies in the hot tub. Children should be in the child's pool which they have. Some children had shovels, real metal shovels and... Read more

Stayed with family for a quick getaway from the heat of Sacramento. The resort is located right on the beach in Marina. Once you check in, a golf cart transports you to your room. No cars allowed where the rooms are located. We had an upstairs room which had a white water view of the ocean. The rooms were clean, modern, enough room, well appointed, and the bathroom was fantastic. There was a fireplace which was controlled by the thermostat(outstanding). What a hidden gem! This was our first visit and brought 3 kids (2 teenage boys and a pre teen). The suite was clean and comfortable. There were 2 showers in the bathroom and a double sink - great for our family of 5! They also had excellent quality soap/shampoo in refillable dispensers. I love this idea - why deal with all those little annoying bottles? Every hotel should be doing this! The staff was friendly, responsive and willing to go the extra mile! This hotel sounds great on paper. But in reality, it is not worth the price. Our "beach front" room was hardly that. Beach view yes, but not beach front when I can barely see or hear the beach from our room. About a mile of sand and non-walkable dunes between our room and the actual beach. Bed was very hard to sleep in. My back is hurting after three days. The pillows are what I call "pillow nuggets". They are so small my head feels like it's going to roll off one side or another. I don't usually write review, but our experience here was so horrible that I am compelled to share and warn others. We had high expectation of this place especially from the hotel site and pictures. The accommodation is 3.5 star. The "suites" are little bigger than a normal room. Ours was up stairs so having small kids didn't work well. There are very cheap plastic window covers that don't darken the room well so kids didn't sleep well. I would be fine with this if we paid $250 a night but it was $600 a night! We left a day early and went home. This said - the private beach is great (tourists note: this area is in deep fog much of the year - don't expect sun). Very overpriced overall.
