Pretty hotel! Check in was a breeze, even got a cookie! Staff were awesome. Beautiful views, centrally located. Knew about the construction but it didn't bother us, in fact we barely heard it! Wished we stayed longer! Highly recommended, will stay again!

Unfortunately this hotel is undergoing renovations, but I'm sure it will be lovely when it is completed. It does detract from your stay; however, our rooms, the rates, and the breakfasts more than made up for it, hence the high rating we gave. We had 2 main bedrooms with a connecting room, which was huge. This combination of three rooms made our stay amazing. The middle room had a dining room table, fold out couch, bar, flat screen television, and full bathroom. This hotel is a short walk to... Read more

We have been staying at the Portola Hotel&Spa for the last 10+ years for both pleasure and business. My experience have been extremely positive. One member of the banquet staff who has been very helpful and friendly is Mr. Sunjeev Pahalad, whom I first met many years ago. The Portola Hotel spectacular location was the reason we chose it many years ago. However, it is your friendly staffs like Sunjeev Pahalad who keeps bringing our family back year after year.

We are currently staying at the Portola Hotel while we play in a bridge tournament nearby. We were able to get a great rate through Travelzoo because the hotel is undergoing renovation. The renovation hasn't bothered us at all, although there is some noise. The signage is great, the staff are helpful and friendly and the parking valets are fabulous. We are in a lovely room on the 6th floor with a view of the beautiful Monterey Bay. We particularly like the balcony and large window with a slidi... Read more

we have been there many times and were a little concerned about the news of the construction remodeling. It really was not a problem at all ! the staff was very courteous and accomodating and we had a wonderful harbor on the top floor. The only minus I could say was the breakfast buffet was not a good deal 19.95 pp for scrambled eggs and dry bacon ... Bad idea to eat at the hotel as there are many really good places to eat nearby.

Stayed here for a conference in November and the location was fantastic. I parked my car and walked everywhere. The wharf is a few steps away as well as the ped/bike trail that goes for miles; one could walk to cannery row and the aquarium. There was a Starbucks across the street and a crepe place right next to the parking for the hotel. Yes, there was construction going on in the hotel, but I was warned about it in advance, so I knew to expect it. The bed was comfy with good linens and the r... Read more

The Portola was attractively priced, which is why I initially chose it. It's in a very central location and you can walk to many attractions from the hotel. The rooms were very nice. The only negative was the "deck" was in an interior space within the structure. It's quite a large hotel and has all of the amenities you'd want or walk out the door to many great restaurants!

Unfortunately the hotel Portola was under renovation when we stayed there but it was the conference center so it was no so annoying. The front desk has been moved so it was a little bit less fancy than expected but we got amazing home made cookies when we checked-in. We asked a king bed room but they were sold out both nights so we ended up with a double queen beds room. The style is pretty classic but nice. The room was clean and spacious. I really liked the bathroom, pretty convenient and the... Read more

The Portola is a incredible hotel as it is located right in the heart of Monterey next to everything in terms of downtown. We were able to enjoy the hotel bar, the wharf, and local stores/restaurants all within a short walk. Additionally, for anyone visiting Monterey for the first time, I highly recommend the 17 mile drive which starts just a few miles from the hotel. This was an incredible view of the coast and something you don't want to miss!

My 7-year-old son and I got away for a few nights for Thanksgiving while my husband was traveling. We really like the Portola Hotel location really close to fisherman's wharf. Be warned, it is currently undergoing a major renovations so it is not as nice right now. However, the construction didn't bother us or interfere with our stay. We got a nice room away from the highway. They have a fun kids program where they can look for clues on a treasure map. If kids find all the answers to the quest... Read more
