I really like this hotel. The decor is very tasteful, the attached restaurants and bar(s) are great, the rooms very comfortable and well put together, and the location can't be beat for seeing Monterey. I also found the hotel staff to be very friendly and helpful. Their winter deals make it very worth a visit. You can walk to so many great things from here. There is construction going on next door right now, but that really didn't bother us at all.

This is my second stay at the Portola Hotel & Spa in Monterey. The first time I was impressed by the lobby and our room was very comfortable & nice. This time was also good but there is quite a bit of construction going on outside building a conference facility and their lobby was under construction as well. We were placed in a room that was very quiet & was comfortable but seemed to be a bit older than the one we stayed in last year. I love that they allow dogs, but felt the $50 per night fee w... Hotel is under remodel, so be prepared. Lobby is the most impacted. Staff is great, rooms are nice size and well appointed. Bed's are comfy. Be advised that if your room is on the side of the parking garage, it is loud, even through the night. Location is good, Starbucks is on the corner, so this is a big plus.

Because the hotel was undergoing some construction, after we checked in, it seemed a little like we were the only people in the hotel. So there was that moment, like in a horror movie where you're telling the people on the screen not to go there . . . Fortunately, our stay which involved two nights and no chainsaws was very nice. I was surprised about the comments about small rooms - ours was not. The hotel is a block from the water and a block from town - close to Fisherman's wharf and about a ... Read more

Hotel was great! Super room. Very close to fisherman's wharf and the whale watching trips. Lots of places to eat here too. About a half hour walk - at gentle/holiday pace to Canary Row and the Aquarium. Hotel was modern and coping very well with all the works going on around the plaza. parking was under the hotel. We used the laundry service - very reasonable and very efficient! Are only quibble was that we asked for a quiet room and were given one on the side of one of the only roads in Mo... Read more

OK! So there is construction all around but the staff has done a great job of keeping us away from the noise! The hotel is located in the Historic District of Monterey when it was the Capital of North and South California. The food is great! If the chef is there to make omelets in the morning, you will be a very happy camper. The staff is exceptional in meeting the needs/requests of the clientele and booked our trip to the Monterey Bay Aquarium (which is not to be missed)! Walk to shopping... Read more

Room is so small. Waited a long time to check in to the room because it's not ready at the time of check in. Our room is next to the street so it's so noisy. Beds are comfortable. Good location. It's a short walk to the Pier from the hotel.

Rooms on the 7th floor were beautifully appointed with spectacular views. The hotel is located within walking distance of the Old Fisherman's Wharf and numerous downtown Monterey restaurants. We will be back!

Portola Hotel exceeded our expectations from check in through check out. The front desk was very friendly and helpful also the cookies were a nice treat at arrival. The valet was also very efficient with our luggage. Although there is construction going on, it did not effect our stay at all. The location is great to access all of Monterey and our view of the bay was beautiful. We will definitely stay here again!

The rooms were nice and clean. I stated nickel and dime the customer - bottled water is sitting on the desk and if one is not careful, and doesn't notice the small sign and opens the water, there will be a $4.00 fee on the bill. For water!!! Parking - either Valet or park yourself - either way there is a fee. And parking yourself is $19.00!! I'd hate to find out what the Valet fee is! Renovations - no view other than a courtyard with equipment in it, but that is understandable with it being unde... Read more
