All in all this hotel is good. Not great but will definitely be adequate. Free Valet service is a huge plus having paid someone 40 dollars the night before to move my car literally 20ft. Some would say the hotel looked dated but I think it fits with its surroundings. The views from the lobby and pretty special and I can only imagine the Seaview rooms are worth the extra money. The hotel was very comfortable. The rooms were clean. The bed was comfortable. The staff was unbelievably polite. I don't recall staying at a place where everyone who worked there was so polite. There were binoculars in the room, which we didn't take with us on the 17 mile drive, which was a mistake. They had small conventions in the hotel, which had parties outside our window that broke up around 9:30. I would have preferred not to have those, but it was a minor inconvenience.

We stayed one night in Monterey on the way to Sonoma. I picked this hotel was it wasn't a chain and normally "Plaza" in a hotel means it is posh. While the stay was without negative event - it just wasn't as great as expected. On a weird aside - trainees at the front desk are stripped of their nametag - it just says "Trainee" - whereas all the other staff get their real name. Our "Trainee" who checked us in was AWESOME! We stayed a single night. Cannery Row wasn't what we expected, but the hotel was pleasant enough. Extremely expensive as are all hotels in the area, but with an element of class and distinction to go with it. The resort fee added on at check-in cost the hotel a star in our rating. At $375 a night the idea of adding a "resort fee" smacks of larceny. Also, be prepared to wait 20 minutes for your car to be fetched by valet when you check-out.

Our oceanview balcony room was exactly as advertised -- what a commanding view (with binoculars included). I could have spent a week just watching the sea otters play in the kelp beds immediately in front of us. Room was attractive, with a spacious bathroom. The hotel is quite large -- very convention oriented. We enjoyed our visit to the Blue Vista Spa, although I wish the spa rooms were accessible other than through the gym. The view from the hot tubs was wonderful along with all the live plants in the spa and on the balcony. It's named as a hotel, even though they do charge you a daily resort fee. I think it's a different way of getting you to pay $27 for valet parking. I tend to avoid resorts because of all the extra charges you usually see on check out. There is no pool here, they are apparently not allowed one as they are in a nature reserve. Which is fair enough, but still is one of the things I marked them down for. The few rooms which face the harbor no doubt have fantastic views but our room looked out on to ... Read more

Assuming that you are going to visit the Aquarium, this is - undoubtedly - the best place to stay in town. Roomier bedrooms, helpful stay and a (surprisingly) good breakfast and restaurant. Also, they have a chauffeur-drive service to the Wharf and other places in town in a very fancy and brand new Land Rover Discovery that is really nice.

Our first and last impressions were of the helpful, friendly staff- they made us feel at home immediately. The hotel itself is very comfortable, with a spacious feeling- wide corridors, and a variety of patios and indoor and outdoor eating areas. Our room was quiet and comfortable and everything worked as it should. One tip- we visit the area quite often, and our favorite restaurant is a humble sushi place on Lighthouse Ave called Crystal Fish, about three blocks from the hotel. It's always ... Read more

I wasn't planning to stay in Monterey however the trip took different twists and turns. Arrived at the hotel, went to the front desk and got two rooms from Helenia, she was a very good representative for the property. Because of the location on Cannery Row, really Ocean View the property is in a number of buildings so the lower lobby connects them. Room was awesome, great view of the bay, heard crashing waves all night which was magical plus a few barking seals. I love the sound of nature. ... Read more

We were extremely pleased with all aspects of our stay at this hotel -- courteous helpful staff, large beautifully decorated rooms, comfortable beds, and high-end touches. The views from the ocean side rooms are spectacular! We enjoyed sitting in our room, having breakfast by the window, and watching the otters, birds, and dolphins. The binoculars in our room were an extra nice touch.

We spent three wonderful nights at the Monterey Plaza. We chose a harbour view room with balcony and we were so glad we did. Sitting on the balcony with a glass of local wine in the evening was just the way to spend time before heading out for a meal. Also, we didn't need to use the aircon once, leaving the balcony doors open at night so we had the waves lapping and the cool sea breeze coming in to the room, with the bark of sea lions in the distance. My husband, toddler daughter, and I stayed at Monterey Plaza Hotel a few weeks ago, and had a wonderful stay. The property was beautiful, and in a great location (not right in the middle of all the activity of the Monterey Aquarium, but close enough to walk to the aquarium). The staff was very friendly and helpful -- they even gave my daughter a goodie bag upon our arrival with lots of treats that she loved! We would definitely stay again on our next trip to Monterey.

This is a nice hotel. Rooms are clean, great ocean views and comfortable beds. The staff were all great, restaurant was good. The downside was we were in room 1304. We had two adjoining rooms doors on each side of the room. Not sure if it was those doors or just thins walls. Our room was across the street, with "inland view" but had a nice bay view and had the crash of the waves to enjoy the experience. Room was comfortable. First of all Cannery Row is an excellent location and the shuttle bus stops in front of the hotel. In addition the hotel has spacious outdoor areas.
