We stayed two nights on an anniversary trip. First, let me say how sweet the staff was to leave a signed card, bottle of wine and small chocolates for our anniversary! Very nice touch. We had a balcony room with a pretty view of the harbor. We loved hearing the crashing waves while in the room. The room was very well appointed and very clean. The bathroom was beautiful. Booked this hotel for my boyfriend's 30th birthday. I wanted something on Cannery Row, close to the aquarium. There are a couple nice, more "expensive" hotels on the row that I thought about booking, but ultimately went with the Monterey Bay Inn, for the views. We stayed in a harbor view room (room 407 to be exact). The front desk staff was very polite and friendly upon checking in. My husband and I stayed here one night over a 5 day stay in the central coast area. It was by far my favorite place! We were celebrating my 40th birthday. The signed card and bottle of wine were truly a special touch that was most appreciated. I also loved the Aveda products in the bathroom. Our room overlooked the beautiful bay where we could hear waves crashing and sea lions barking. We also enjoyed the ocean view hot tub on the 4th floor which was clean and in good working order. Lovely view over the harbor from our 4th floor room. The hotel looks cookie cutter from outside, but the views, the personel and the location make it a lovely place to stay. Freshly baked cookies await you in the lobby, a more than satisfactory breakfast is brought to your room, the staff is not only polite and friendly, but goes out of its way to look after its guests. Special thanks to Merle and Christie and to the front desk attendant who helped me fix my computer connection problems.

Our stay was'nt the best, due to the handling of a complaint by the front desk. There was a family underneath us that complained of stomping coming from our room. The walls and floors are paper thin, you can hear neighbors carry conversations as if they were sitting your room. Just walking around caused such a rukus and ruin our stay at this Inn. WHY DID WE SELECT MBI: We have stayed here twice in the last year, in March 2015 and April 2016. The room is quiet (at the very end of the hall), calm and peaceful. We didn't turn the TV on for our entire stay. We don't come to Monterey for the activities, but for the peace and absolute tranquility of hearing the lap of waves, sea lions, cormorants and seagulls. The hotel is the last (or the first) one on the quiet end of the Row. ESPECIALLY HELPFUL STAFF: Martin, facilities janitor/supervisor... Read more

Booked this kind of last minute for our memorial weekend with the kids. I always make sure there is a pool because that is what makes the kids happy. I went through trips advisors and put in that we needed a pool and so I picked this one. The morning before we head out my husband tells me he doesn't think the hotel I booked has a pool - so I called and he was right. The gentleman that answered the phone (Erwin) told me that they have two hot tubs but no pool and he doesn't know why trip advisors... Read more

What a lovely place. We were in room 408 with a bay view, luckily unlike some of the other bayview rooms our view was mostly of the bay. Breakfast was nice, the staff were amazing. We had no complaints. Ask for a fourth floor room they are the best and know that if you want a true view of the ocean you have to get an ocean view room. The bayview was perfect for us. Also this place is perfect in terms of location. Halfway between both Cannery Row and the wharfs.

We loved the inn and were there a few years ago. The staff were very accommodating. You can get a coffee, sit out on your balcony and watch the sea otters float along the kelp in Monterey Bay. The rooms are large and there are two outdoor whirlpool sauntas to hang out in at night. Near everything downtown including some nice restaurants and a kayak and bike rental shop where you can get the "land and sea" package (kayak and a bike).

Booked a room with ocean front view weeks prior and went to check in and they told us the ocean front rooms were booked up and that we booked a harbor view room. He was trying to educate us on the difference between ocean front vs harbor with ocean view.Like we were dummies and did not know the difference, we have stayed there before and were very educated on the rooms. Breakfast was included in the more than reasonable room rate which consisted if fruit & yoghurt. Juice, tea & coffee and 4 STILL WARM freshly baked muffins. Staff are welcoming and helpful.... We stayed in a huge room that had both oceanfront and bayfront windows, and it was definitely worth it! We were transfixed by the ever-changing views ( enjoyed the binoculars provided) and didn't even want to leave to take a walk to Fisherman's Wharf. A bottle of wine to enjoy on the balcony was a perfect anniversary evening. All of the appointments were fresh, beautiful, and comfortable. My wife, our 9-month old, & myself traveled the PCH starting in Los Angeles. This was definitely the nicest hotel we stayed at as far as room quality. Great bathroom layout...large & spacious with two sinks. The living area was great for our son to play. In addition, the room had a nice long hallway so we placed the pac n' play (hotel provided) in the hallway. We were still able to get to the bathroom & enjoy time alone without disturbing our son. I stayed at the Monterey Bay Inn with my boyfriend in September as the second stop on a road trip down the Californian coast. When we arrived we had just got engaged a few hours beforehand, and my boyfriend had previously emailed them to tell them that it would be a special occasion for us - so when we got there we received a lovely congratulatory welcome from the receptionist and an upgrade on our room. I booked this hotel via their website. Buyer beware there is no mention anywhere of the $20/day charge for parking. I find this excessive since down the road is a parking garage for $10/day. Also, the continental breakfast leaves a lot to be desired. You are required to select what items you want delivered to your room. Choices are fruit/yogurt/pastries/hard boiled eggs and various drinks. The first day we received 9 pieces of fruit and 6 croissants for 3 people. It appears they believe i... Read more

We were on the harbor side and there was a lot to watch. The sound of the seals barking was delightful, and the good-quality binoculars in the room were a nice touch. The hotel staff were all very friendly, efficient, and helpful (I cut my hand while climbing rocks and was given bandages and first aid care). Other than for an unpleasant check-in experience and a few incidental issues, this hotel turned out to be a good choice for our three night vacation in Monterey. For the price we payed to stay there one night in a ocean front view I was expecting a lot more from this hotel. Felt like a 3 star with an ocean front view, which is also not the best view point on the bay as it's facing north. If this hotel was more reasonably priced and within a range of a 3 star I would say it's great for a 3 star with a view however this hotel is priced into a different league which doesn't make much sense for it. Other than that we had a nice stay overall.
