Entertainment & Activities

The Pacific Coast Steamship Company building was built in 1906 following the San Francisco earthquake. This property has many well known names associated with it. The Castro family received the property in a land grant. Later in 1868, the property was owned by Charles Moss, the town`s namesake, and Donald Beadle (both in shipping). The Pacific Coast Steamship Company purchase the property in 1881 and the PCSC owned the property when the current two story building was built. The Pacific Coast Steamship Company was sold in 1917 to the Pacific Steamship Company run by John Scudder. The Capurro Family owned the property in the mid1900s and used it as a family residence. The York family established the Moss Landing Harbor Chapel here and regularly held church services in the building. In more recent years, the building has been home to countless Moss Landing Marine Laboratories students.

John and Rose were wonderful to work with in booking all ten rooms for my birthday party. They went above and beyond to make the weekend special with birthday decorations, a surprise tiramisu cake, and advice about airport transportation, hikes, etc. Breakfasts were tasty and they accommodated dietary restrictions. We were able to keep our food and drinks in the fridge in the main house. The only thing I did not like was that there was a tip jar on the counter at breakfast. Love the locatio... Read more

Checked in by a gentleman I assume to be the owner. He said he wanted guests to feel like family, then reeled off a list of do's and don'ts. Never saw him again. Although able bodied, we were allocated a room specifically adapted for disabled guests. As I am a light sleeper, I always request a quiet room on a high floor. I presume that as this is a room for disabled clients, it makes sense that it should be on the ground floor, right inside the front door and parallel to the staircase. The... Read more

I seldom feel compelled to write a review while still at a property, but this is the exception. Wow. Just wow. If you are looking for an unusual property at a spot close to but off of the beaten path, this is it. We were greeted at the door by the owner, but even more unusual was the phone call while driving to the inn. The phone rang and we were literally turning into the inn's drive. Sophia was asking about our arrival time so she could be sure to greet us. We were shown around the pr... Read more

We had a very nice room with a great view of a little inlet where birds, seals and otters could be seen playing. There was some remodeling being done outside, so I am sure it will be even better in the future. Very nice staff and a big breakfast each morning. Great place for a couple to get away.

My stay at Captain's Inn was very enjoyable. My SO and I only stayed for a night, but it was exactly what we needed. Check-in was pretty seamless, it was a quick tour of the place and our room. Our room had cookies as a welcome, which was a nice touch. Our room was smaller, but we didn't need much. The deck in the back had beautiful views of the sunset, and overall the inn was very quiet. We hung out in the library/game room for a little bit before heading to bed. The library/game room was small... Read more

We stayed for two nights and found the Captains Inn adorably quaint. The staff were very helpful when we booked via e-mail, they also booked our whale watching cruise for us. Very helpful and informative when we arrived. Our room was really nice with amazing views overlooking the wetlands, it was great watching the sea otters, seals and variety of birds. The breakfasts were delicious, free coffee, tea and soft drinks in the fridge 24 hours a day. Would highly recommend a stay here.

We made a last minute reservation on line at the Captain's Inn website. A very easy to use website and just as easy reservation form. The Inn was easy to locate and check in was very smooth, the innkeeper even let us look at the 3 empty rooms to help us decide. We decided to go with the River Front room, on the first floor in the middle, it was so cute and quaint. We just loved all the amenities, the big picture windows was one of our favorites. The view was priceless. The bed was so comfortable... Read more

Captain's Inn has an interesting design like beds in boat and it utilize nicely other similiar themes. A problem with beds was that it was too high. There was an electric fireplace in the room. Surrounding is rather modest, but from the window you can do birdwatching. Breakfast didn't have many options.

This lovely inn was perfect for our mini get away. I told my husband I wanted to have our anniversary dinner at the Whole Enchilada and surprised him with a night's stay at the Captain's Inn. We had huge windows facing the Bay and wetlands with an incredible sundown. It's a wonderful place to relax and peacefully unwind!

We just came back from a two night stay and it was wonderful. The breakfast was gourmet and the breakfast team was so warm and anxious to please - we just had to hug them! We traveled with my son and his girlfriend and both our rooms were beautiful with amazing views (the second floor room got to see more sea lions and otters). I strongly recommend paying the extra for a room with a view. The walk to the beach is easy and the beach was deserted - which was so refreshing. We were visiting fr... Read more

We had a wonderful stay at the Captain's Inn B & B at Moss Landing. My husband and I will definitely be back. Our upstairs room had a terrific view of numerous water foul, playful sea otters, lounging seal lions and even a flock of wild turkeys. Binoculars are in your room although ours were not that great. Note to self bring our own. Rooms have a darling nautical decor including cozy, comfortable beds made from old sailboats! We sipped wine in our little sitting room while enjoying the pea... Read more

We stayed at the Captain's Inn in July and had a wonderful weekend enjoying our comfortable room, the beautiful location, and the hospitality offered by the Innkeeper. The breakfasts were outstanding. I highly recommend the Captain's Inn for a great getaway in a unique location.

This is the second time we've stayed here. It's under new ownership and inn keeping. We were so very pleased to return and have friendly faces. Breakfast was out of this world both mornings and we had wonderfully friendly other guests to chat with. it's in a fantastic location away from some of the touristy feel of Monterey but close enough to get there in a few minutes. We loved kayaking on the Elkhorn Slough again with all the otters and seals. The room was lovely and comfortable. next time ... Read more

On the edge of the bird sanctuary our room looked straight out over it. The decoration was creative, our bed-frame was a boat trailer. There were lots of small details that made it special. There was a gas-log fire and also a proper heater. The shower was great and could take two persons at a time. The breakfast was superb. But it wasn't cheap. Consider it a special treat on a romantic getaway down highway one.

We were at MBARI in Moss Landing for a workshop and just spent 4 evenings at the Captain's Inn Bed & Breakfast. It was delightful, charming and refreshing, and within walking distance to the meeting, as well as several popular and excellent restaurants. Our group enjoyed quaint and comfortable accommodations with private baths, each uniquely decorated. The Inn's key staff, Meldalina and Pam, both have years of B&B/travel experience. Together with their assistant exude much enthusiasm and ener... Read more

We were three couples booked in for a 2 night stay. (7th & 8th September 2016)On arrival we were warmly greeted by Pam. The rooms were quaint, homely and extremely clean. Meldalina made us the most delightful breakfast for the two mornings and on request made us a delicious chicken soup, salad and garlic bread supper. Pam made the most fabulous cookies, of which we failed to find any as good on the rest of our travels! We booked a Whale watching trip which was just a 5 minute walk from the gu... Read more

We stayed in the secondary building right on the slough. We were on the first floor in the most private room called Cast Away. The decor is very nautical, funky but fun. Our bed was on top of an old boat so we had to climb on a crate sized box to get in. It was actually nice as our view of the water and dunes was improved. Our resident great Blue Heron sunned himself everyday near our room. Bird life was plentiful. The included breakfast was late both days and made us rush. Another couple had to... Read more

Weekend of kayaking and whale watching here. The inn was perfect. Friendly, helpful staff. Walk to restaurants. Room overlooking the bay. The garden was splashed with nautical items that made it quite interesting. Breakfasts were creative, but a little small for those going out for an active day.

Great B&B -- delicious breakfast, and the innkeeper and staff really make you feel at home: carafes of water for your room, a fridge with sodas and juice, a microwave for guest use, spa-quality bath products, and lots of beautiful scenery. They have several decks where you can sit out and enjoy nature, and the inn is a very short walk to the harbor for whale-watching boats and the Elkhorn Slough Safari, as well as restaurants and the beach. This B&B is decorated so cute and very welcoming! We got a little tour when we checked in. Very friendly staff. The location is not perfect, we mostly drove to Monterey and Carmel to do dinners which is about 30 minutes away! If you want a weekend to relax and chill at the room and enjoy the scenery, this is perfect. The breakfast was delicious, not enough food for my husband but very tasty! Make sure if you are vegetarian you let them know before you get there! The couple next to us said they ... Read more
