"a lot of effort has been put into giving this dated building a facelift. The reception areas are inviting and the restaurant menu and staff were very good for this standard of hotel. However you cant get away from the stark 70's facade even with the latte paintwork and newly landscaped beach front promenade . The rooms are well presented and comfortable . its best to stay on level 2 and above for increased privacy but the great dual blinds overcome some of this disadvantage . Choose a beachfront room for great views to monterey and sounds of the surf ( this might not suit light sleepers ). Avoid the rear as it is very close to highway . It was much further out of monterey than we expected and the $15 parking charge is not justified for this type of facility or location . we stayed in spring so it was quiet but it would be much noisier in high season"

"We had a great and relaxing weekend. Friendly and helpful hotel staff. Good food and great service at its on-site restaurant. Easy access to the beach. They have a nice pool and a little gym, but didn't have the chance to use them. This was our 2nd time staying at this hotel. Will choose this hotel again in our next visit."

"We stayed for 3 nights. When we booked there was no information regarding a $15 charge per night for parking. staff was great. Our parking fee was waived! The hotel itself was okay but the heat broke in the pool, there was no ESPN in room to watch the women's NCAA finals, and the place was VERY noisy. People yelled up and down outside our room and allowed their kids to play in the halls loudly while our young kids slept. Additionally, there were no rules about kids in the hot tub (spa) and it was always full of kids some noisily playing, jumping and splashing and then it closed at 9pm never allowing tired adults a minute of peace to enjoy. The staff was very helpful and accomodating inspite of the general issues. Finally, the distance to downtown was too far and with the huge winds that blew constantly staying by the beach was not worth it."

"I took my 80 year old mother for a 'girls weekend'. She was thrilled! The front desk staff was very nice, said she would 'upgrade' us (which was part of the deal so that was funny, and became the joke of the trip). The room was spacious with 2 queen beds, desk, 2 kitchen chairs, and a lounge chair. Nicely furnished, warm bedding and nice TV (it was Oscar night!) The housekeeping was a bit off, but overall good experience, just missing some things like hand towels day 2 and no cups or regular coffe on day one. The restraunt was definitely 5 star. We had a total of 4 meals there, never did have lunch but breakfast and dinner were good, and priced okay. Every table has a view of the bay, so that was a plus. Overall, the grounds were nice. The hot tub/spa was dirty, but just because of debris blowing into it during a big wind. Too cold to try the pool but overall, nice area for pool and spa."
