Close to the airport, great for coming or going. However, that means you are driving distance from anything else. Very service animal friendly. Skip the "free breakfast" find someplace in Arcata or Eureka. For dinner make sure you stop at Carmela's in McKinleyville. I have found Kayak seems to have best deals. This is a very good choice for staying away from the "interesting folks" who infest the rest of the Arcata area.

It is about 45 minutes to redwood national park, 1 hour to crescent city, and 5 hours to SF. It is between SF and crescent city. The driving from hotel to redwood was nice, there are many to see. Hotel is standard Holiday Inn Express. Room was clean. The shower water flow was nice. Room was big compare to the hotel in SF. Room has microwave and refrigerator. The breakfast was a bit disgusting at first. I had 2 boxes of bad milk, and 1 boxes of bad soy milk. So i stopped try any more box drin... Read more

This is my second review. Family members have stayed here 3 or 4 times. Service: 4: every member of the staff were courteous and efficient. Value: 3: we paid about $130/night. Sleep Quality: 4: OK mattress, lots of pillows. Building is wood construction rather than concrete so the heavy tread from Mr. Stompy Upstairs can carry. Little noise from the airport (it's not very busy). Cleanliness: 5: Everything was spotless and odorless in the room, and the breakfast bar and lobby were well kempt. Lo... Read more

First time been here, great location, just off highway 101. I like the location is easy to hop on highway to redwood park, and all other park and beaches. Friendly front desk staff, comfortable lobby area, King bedroom was spacious, clean and quiet. Breakfast time 4:30-9:30am. Will recommend anyone to here if you visit around this area.

Don't let the fact that this hotel is out of town up near the (small) airport dissuade you - this is the best hotel option in the Arcata area. This hotel is fairly new and is in a quiet location away from all the stupidity that abounds in the Giuntoli Lane area where most of the other hotels are. That area is overrun with homeless, drug addicts and other assorted knuckleheads that make a stay down there questionable at best. This Holiday Inn Express is clean, peaceful and safe.

My husband and I were returning from a trip in Northern Oregon and decided to stop in McKinleyville, CA for the night on our way home to Southern California. We happened upon the Holiday Inn Express on Concorde Drive, and were very pleasantly surprised by the quality of this hotel. First of all, it is clean, clean, clean. The layout of the office/foyer is very modern and attractively decorated. The feel you get when entering is of a much higher star hotel. We were in a room with two queen b... Read more

I made a reservation online for two rooms at the government rate. I checked in at the front desk and produced the required ID and signed the paperwork. The manager walked up and told us we could only have one room at that rate and took the paperwork from us. When I booked the reservation online nowhere did it state that I could only have one room at that rate. She was very argumentative and rude to us. I guess even when you have a confirmation of a price and produce the proper ID they feel they ... Read more

Overall the hotel was of a high standard and the staff on the reception desk were excellent and very welcomming. The room was very clean, and equipped with a microwave, fridge and coffee machine. Even with the window open the room was very quiet. The chooce of firm and soft pillows was a nice touch. The downside was that the mattresses on both beds were begginning to go soft and could do with being replaced. Breakfast - the range of things on offer was excellent (eggs, bacon, sausage, 4 types of... Read more

We've traveled all day, stopping at the Mystery Trees about an hour North of here, before calling it a night. There was several major road repairs between the Oregon state line and here requiring waiting to be escorted by pilot cars. From the looks of things theses repairs will be ongoing for a long time. We weren't in a rush so it wasn't a bother. This is located not very far from the ocean and near a Coast Guard Air Station. If you're looking for dinner you'll have to drive into town a very sh... I visit Arcata twice a year to drop off and pick up my son at HSU. I usually stay in one of the motels just north of campus, but this May I splurged on the Holiday Inn in McKinleyville, a few exits up 101 from Arcata, near the airport(it's small, you won't hear it). The rooms are spacious, the area is very quiet, and a full continental breakfast is included. The service at the front desk could stand to be more friendly, but the location and quality of the property is far superior to those in ... Read more

My wife and I recently had occasion to stay a few nights at the McKinleyville hotel. We have stayed at many Holiday Inn Expresses across the country, from Chicago to Florida to Pennsylvania... and we both agreed this was the best one yet. A little research looking for the best hotel in the area with the best prices will lead you here.

The room was fine and clean. These Holiday inn Express hotels are good enough for business or family travel, having good wifi, range of TV channels and a free breakfast. Good coffee. Free USA today and the local paper. A few negatives: 1. Upon arrival our toilet wouldn't flush. The front desk clerk came to fix it but didn't bring even a plumber's helper and had to go get one. Did he think we were lying? 2. I did laundry but there wasn't a change machine. The front desk didn't have enough quart... Read more

We stayed here for one night while traveling from Yosemite up through the redwood region of California and then onward into Oregon. Check in was easy and friendly. Our room was spacious, very clean, and very comfortable. We had a double queen which had a refrigerator and microwave. The bathroom had a large vanity, which is always helpful when people are all trying to get ready at the same time. Breakfast had several hot and cold choices. There was ample room for everyone in the breakfast area.

Rooms were new and very nice---5 star for that but the following issue brought my rating down. We booked this hotel about a month and a half away from our stay. We were planning a road trip. If anyone has planned a road trip, you know sometimes things change and the route needs to be revised....Twelve days out from out trip, we realized we needed to book a hotel in a different town, BUT we couldn't because this hotel charges your card two weeks prior. We had a good stay here while we were voting Redwoods NP. The rooms were normal, the bathroom average, the breakfast consistent with the average Holiday Inn Express. The staff was friendly. The decor was almost southwestern, and the hotel had a large staircase going up the center, which was convenient. Overall this was a good hotel and I would recommend it if you are in the area.

We checked into the Holiday Inn Express with great hopes. It looked to be convenient for our visit, and we paid extra for an upgraded room. When we arrived we were sent to a room that looked terrific as soon as we walked in. But then we noticed that something was seriously wrong. The room smelled of cat, and cat urine. This is a "pet friendly" hotel, but to my wife who is allergic to cats, this certainly wasn't a people friendly hotel. When we went to request another room, they said the on... Read more

Service was great and friendly, room was fabulous! We were upgraded to a suite and I highly recommend it. Only down spot was the bike package. The bikes were the really big Electra models which are definitely not for anyone under 5'4". So we got our money back, but it's a nice idea if you can handle them. Would love it if they had more user friendly bikes (we are avid riders). So yeah, great place to stay for a visit to redwoods and the coast!

Visiting Redwoods National Park, and there is no lodging inside the park. There are a handful of motels that are closer, but they looked pretty dingy. So, we stayed here and drove 30 minutes to the park entrance/visitor center. Its a fairly new hotel, and the King suite was spacious, with a small couch/seating area. Suite is roomy! At first my WiFi connection was not that great but they give you access so you can do what you need. Quiet area, breakfast starts as early 430am, great for catching early flights or heading to work, continental style but a decent variety. Access to 101 highway is close. Hiking, biking trail nearby. Staff is friendly and helpful. They offer shuttle to airport but you can walk there in fifteen minutes.

Thank you to trip advisor ratings for helping us select this hotel as a part of our trip down the oregon and california coasts. It appears this hotel originally a different brand, but this hotel meets HIE standards. A delightfully quite location as well as central for going to redwoods and coastal locations north and south. I was quite surprised when the desk clerk told me the hotel was 19 years old, because I thought it was about a year at most. The room was spacious and well equipped.
