You have to bend over to get your toothbrush, from almost off the floor, because of the weird bathroom set up. There is no place to put your suitcase, and the desk in each doubles as the place to put the tiny little ironing board... Stay across the street at the Westin where they cater to business travelers. This is a party hotel. Great for a weekend romp, but then again, go to Sunset and stay away.

I stayed here in an effort to save money for my company. This hotel is geared towards a younger crowd - not really for experienced business travelers who needs comfortable, well lit, sleeping/working quarters. The last thing I want to think about is if I need to purchase shower shoes or wonder if the sheets have been changed. The tile on the shower wall clearly had not been scrubbed in quite a while. There was mildew staring back at me as I tried to get beneath the strangely low shower head.... Read more

Staying at The Standard Downtown is like buying an Alfa Romeo. It looks sexy on the lot and a good idea in theory, but soon after you start driving it, it stutters, breaks down, and then eventually envelops your life in misery and disappointment. This is a party spot first, and the hotel is an afterthought. The hotel is valet parking only, but the valet stand is not in front of the hotel, nor is there a decent sign pointing guests to where it is. It's tucked away behind the hotel (again, no ... Friendly young staff. The room had one plastic chair for a couple. I had my wine standing up. Then after a busy long day we dropped onto the mattress. There was a huge platform around it. You can't actually get up if you have bad knees. We both had to tuck and roll to the floor then crawl to the shelf to lift ourselves. Definitely not for guests over a certain age, even ones that look fit. Not ADA friendly.

Okay, here's the thing. The Standard is wonderful for a bar scene. If you are young and single go to the Standard and have a ball. The drinks are great and it is always packed. People go after work in Downtown LA and people from everywhere go there just to have a good time--and it is a great time--a great time to get drunk, but unless you just need a place to crash after, don't stay at the Hotel. It is really too bad, because we all had high hopes for it. I have been to the bar with co-workers ... Read more

The staff werent very friendly and the hairdresser downstairs didnt cater to women!!! The bed however was pretty comfortable and the room was pretty big, however everything looked super old and rusted. if your looking for a place for a good night sleep then dont chose the downtown standard.... The rooftop aspect of it is clearly the best one to highlight in the Standard Downtown. Excellent service, entertainment and set-up make it the perfect atmosphere for any given time with a few friends. I would not rate the food as high and the rates per room can be a stopover is some cases; yet I would surely stop here again on my next visit.

Adored this place! Its gorgeous and modern, comfy, open for food all night, in a great area and just plain ol rock and roll to a tee! The beds are a little hard but the shower was killer. For a rock and roll spot, they need to do a better job of curtains. No one likes waking up to light after a night out. Black curtains for realz! Def coming back to this place too!

This hotel tries to be trendy but feels like it is a cheap hotel run solely for loud drunken teenagers. The rooms are cold and sterile... felt like staying in a hostel frankly. There is not even a proper concierge, just the kids on reception who are seemingly untrained and clueless. They are likely to recommend you go to some local speakeasy that they think is uber trendy but in fact is just a glorified dive bar for hipsters in bow ties and trainers to drink overpriced cocktails out of jam jars.... We've stayed at The Standard a couple of different times and always have fun. It's pretty standard (sorry, ugh...) boutique hotel fare; minimalist room furnishings, simple, bright colors, glass walls that separate the shower from the rest of the room (thumbs up!), etc. You get the picture. It is understandable why this place is so popular with 20-somethings. The bars are always packed and you feel like a party is always in progress. I was in downtown LA for a concert with a friend. I was initially a little worried that I would find the rooms to be uncomfortable due to the super modern minimal design but I got a good deal on a room so I went for it anyway. I was actually very happy with my stay at the Standard. The atmosphere is very fun and interesting. There is so much to do here. I need to come again just to make my way out to the hotel bars. Not a very nice place to have a girls weekend. From the start we got racially profiled by security and manger. When we called him to let him know how the security was treating us he had an attitude from the start. we followed all rules of the hotel we even got another suite so it will only be 3 girls in in each suite. I called them multiple times to talk the morning (MOD) no call back. P.S it was my birthday.

I arrived in LA on Amtrak into Union station, so deliberately chose a downtown hotel. Be aware if you've never been in LA, there is very little to do downtown once office hours are over - everyone pretty much disappears out to the suburbs. Hence I chose a hotel with a roof pool and bar and live DJs so I had a bit of nightlife to keep me entertained. Room was amazing with everything I needed, aircon was good, and the food and drink on the rooftop bar were great. I think next time though, I will ... Read more

Thanks, The Standard Downtown, for consistently having the most pretentious, dismissive, dehumanizing door people/policies in the entire city of Los Angeles. For the last 14 years, I have been heavily involved with party promotions, hosting various clubs, and I've even DJed the Standard in Hollywood. And the power-tripping door people blocking access to the rooftop parties here are the WORST. I'll name some names. Door girls Tasha, Brittney, and manager Ben Adams. First time staying at the Standard. Caught a late flight from NY to LA. I had a meeting in West Hollywood, so decided to stay here. Entrance is beautiful, very trendy. There was a large gathering finishing up. Lobby was beautifully done. They are definitely going for that retro-chic look. They certainly succeeded. Check in was seamless. Staff was friendly. I like the Standard. The rooftop is great with incredible views of the city. Drinks and food are outrageous but you can expect that at a place like this. Rooms are BIG! Perfect for girls night out. I saw people being turned away because they did not have room keys. It seemed that if you weren't staying there you needed to spend a minimum of around $30 at the pool. The room was large. Looking at the charts it was one of the biggest rooms in the hotel. But the downsides were significant. It looked worn out and there were signs of places where housekeeping totally dropped the ball. There was a piece of a hot Cheetos in the corner of the room beside a lamp that has been there for who knows how long. In addition the bathroom shower area was dirty with black mold spots all over the grout as well as dust and debris in corners. It needed a healthy dose of... Read more

The restaurant was oddly-decorated with an overwhelming amount of yellow and the food was average (with very salty corn bisque). It's a lovely and stylish hotel with some decent amenities. But, they sacrificed some comfort for style in my opinion - from the blankets on the bed that is made of course wool, but it looks good; the shower curtain that blows so much when the water is on that it's actual work to keep it off you while bathing; oh, and the TV was fuzzy on most channels, but it too, looks good. Perhaps a little less style, more substance, would make for a better experience.

We chose The Standard Downtown based largely on the reputation and what friends have said about a coupe of the other locations. Alas, this one on the whole is not worth the price. And yes, LA isn't cheap by any means. However, even with the discount they were offering that weekend (which seemed reasonable relative to other places), it just didn't cut it and we felt ripped off. The hotel is in a great location downtown. You can walk to lots of cool stores, restaurants and venues. The staff are super chill and very helpful. If you need anything let them know and they can help. They know all the cool spots in the area and can help get you a reservation if need be. The rooftop is always busy with beautiful people! They have some of the best parties up there. This is a place you must stay or at least visit when downtown.

Hip hotel room was clean with good style. Rooftop bar and pool deck is fun to have drinks. Good crowd. Great views from your room and from the rooftop bar.
