Stayed two nights at this location. Had a nice corner room and great car valet service. Hotel has a bit of a retro feel yet very contemporary as well. We were going to a Dodgers game so it was not within walking distance.

Was in LA for a one night get away to the city and the whole team was great. Nancy (I believe is her name) checked us in and was great. Arrived back to the hotel at 2 am and my key nor digital key worked so Karla solved that for us, she was super friendly and smiley in spite of the odd hour. Breakfast was the best from any hotel I've been to. The rooms are somewhat small, but very beautiful. We couldn't hear anyone walking the halls, no echo, super soundproof hotel. We could not have been more pleased with our stay at this hotel last weekend. Our flight to LA was going to arrive early on Friday morning. I had called earlier in the week and inquired about early check-in, and I was told that the earliest I could get in to my room was 1 p.m. (standard check-in time was 3 p.m.). When we arrived at the hotel around 9 a.m., we were ready to put our bags in storage and head out into the city, but they were able to get us into our room right away. So great! Ou... Read more

The Hilton Checkers Downtown LA tries very hard to portray itself and convey to each guest a boutique "feel." However, this hotel is not boutique by any means with nearly 150 rooms on site. It does have a slightly more intimate feel in comparison to your grand hotels. But still, not boutique!Wanted to clear that one up right away for people. I am a Hilton Diamond member and the hotel recognized my status and upgraded me into what was considered a Junior Suite. The room was bright and airy with... Read more

Checkers is everything a boutique hotel should be and more. From the moment I entered and was greated by Eric, who has worked at the hotel over 23 years, to breakfast, served by Hector and Max, both 20 year employees, I was treated as if I was an honored family member. The hotel, itself, is high quality understated elegance. The bar, run by Isabella, is intimate and there is usually a fun eclectic international group. I"ll be back.

We stayed two nights at the Checkers in Downtown LA. For us, the location was fantastic since we were working at a Forum just across the street at the Biltmore. Being Hhonors Elite Diamond members, we thought we'd enjoy it more by staying at the Checkers with our Diamond benefits. However, I thought the check-in was disappointing. First of all, the staff at the reception is definitely polite but not really friendly. I requested to have a larger room than the standard King size, and we were told ... Read more

This hotel was booked months before we arrived using my points from being a Hilton Diamond. We were traveling by train and this was convenient to Union Station. I called around 7 PM to let them know that the train was running a little late and we would be there. They certainly didn't appreciate the call and made me feel that I was interrupting them for something not important. We arrived at 9:30, check-in went smooth for us, was told that I had a nice view, received vouchers for breakfast, h... Read more

I was really excited to stay at this hotel, since it is very historic and boutique-like. However, due to many service failures, I will not return. Upon check in, I asked if there was a complimentary upgrade (being a Gold member I am entitled to the next level of upgrade room upon availability). I did my homework and looked on the Hilton HHonors app to see what rooms were still selling, and they had suites available. Checkers s conveniently located near restaurants, shopping and attractions. Dodger stadium is a cab ride away, or you could make your way to Union Station and take the shuttle to the game. Billed as a boutique Hilton experience, this small scale hotel in downtown LA generally delivers. Located a short walk from the arts district and the Disney Hall, this hotel is a good choice for those who are focusing on that part of the LA scene. The immediate neighborhood is scruffy, but many excellent restaurants are very close. The hotel downsizes your usual Hilton throughout: The lobby is small and sleepy, the restaurant and bar are petite, the rooms small but functional. The decor blends ... Read more

This place was a let down from start to finish, a historic hotel claiming 4 stars with many problems. The room was acceptable but it seems that the hotel has basic maintenance problems, the room door had a quarter inch gap around it allowing light and noise to enter from the corridor, ( in the UK this would be a violation of fire regulations), one of the bedside sockets work sometimes and not others, the so called blackout curtains did not meet well in the middle, the shower diverter only divert... Excellent doormen! Beautiful building; old brass, winding staircase. Room was COLD when I arrived, which is rare. Good outlets on bedside table to recharge phone over night. Indifferent clerk at check in and no thank you for Hilton Honors or goody bag. fooey! Dust in corners. thin sheets and towels should be better for a property costing this much and in respect of such a beautiful building. Was quiet though and otherwise reasonable, though admittedly pricey.

Lovely room, really lovely and accommodating staff. Good wifi, they gave us information about the room. The only downside is the nearby area in one direction which is a bit unsafe, But as long as you ask them and stick to where they advise you to go, it's all fine. Nice late checkout of 12pm. Valet parking for $42. They are Happy to hold luggage after checkout. Great location for the grand central market and short taxi or uber to Hollywood boulevard.

The service was helpful, kind and prompt. However, the parking is valet-only and parking in the area, downtown, is overall poor as there aren't a lot of street parking spots. Mostly you'll have to pay for the hotel parking and if you go anywhere beyond a block from the hotel, you will have to pay again at another garage.

Good location, central to many things. Overall the staff was very attentive and the room was okay. Only considered average due to the fact there were glass shards on the floor that my son cut his foot on and some issues we had regarding the check in instructions left at the front desk for him that we had to try and resolved while we were at a function. If it was not for these issues rating would be somewhere between very good and excellent.

Stayed here after our Air bnb was cancelled last minute on labour day weekend. It was pricey for what we got and the rooms are looking a bit tired now. The staff were great and it's a good location in Downtown LA. For the money I wouldn't stay here again but it was a nice solution given our circumstances.

My wife and I prefer staying in Hilton properties when we travel and our first impression of this hotel was very good. It is a very nice hotel, small lobby, but clean and modern. The front desk staff was professional and competent, check-in was smooth and quick. Our room was clean and fresh but a bit oddly shaped, somewhat long and narrow, and fairly small. Although there was a desk and chair, there was no other place to sit. We called down to the front desk to see if another chair could be bro... Read more

I experienced problems accessing the internet, because though I was check-ed into the hotel, I didn't know that the check-in wasn't complete until I called the front desk.Once that was completed I could use the wifi! First morning had a cold shower that is not a favorite of mine, but it as fixed promptly. Last but not least TV had a problem getting a signal and didn't have a television until the second day!

There is a certain grandeur to this hotel. The furnishings are elegant and tasteful. The hotel rooms are small (at least ours was), but that is always the case in big cities. The staff are friendly and helpful and we enjoyed the location. We could walk around -- although the homeless are everywhere. They are harmless, but it does make us sad. Easy access to coffee shops in the morning and fine dining in the evening. We will be back.

Hilton Checkers is a quirky hotel, but not in a bad way. It's a beautiful old building that sits among newer skyscrapers. The location is perfect for LA biz travelers, but many views are obstructed. The rooms are classy and comfy, but some are small and probably need a bit of maintenance. My own room on the 8th floor was large and nicely appointed. Pros: Location, classiness, service, price vs. competition, Internet speed Cons: Room stuff - size / views, weak lighting, frustratingly slow TV ... Read more

Not sure what it was about this hotel but my wife and I felt very "comfortable" here. It's an older hotel but very well maintained. The rooms were moderate sized and crisply clean. The service was "with a smile" from the valet who first took our car, to the front desk to the waiters in the dinning room - "how can we help you" was often heard - and they MEANT it. The continental breakfast was more than most "continentals" and delightfully presented. The atmosphere of the dining room was plea... Read more

A very formal and businesslike hotel in downtown LA. Everything is smooth and polished. You feel like you have to whisper in the hallways. A totally fun free zone. A place for corporate and malpractice lawyers. The bar closes at 11:30pm - ouch - I can never make it back here from a Dodgers game before then. The street is pretty dead then also. Not really close to anything but near the Philharmonic and Contemporary Museums. The Omni is closer to those with more shops around it. Very expensive. ... Read more

Mattress was old and too soft and made for a few nights of pretty poor sleep Nice people at the front desk, bar, and front door. While the room was nice and well appointed, the fact that they allow large dogs was quite a surprise, especially when waken at 3:00am by a large dog running up and down the halls. Wasn't sure if it was a bull dog or a pit bull. Not good for what is known as a business hotel. Breakfast was weak when you consider it costs $20+ per person. The hotel was certainly not the nicest hotel I've ever stayed in and it certainly was not the worst. It was just, okay, acceptable, all right, average, decent, fair, etc. My room was a corner king room on the 8th floor (I think). First off, I like the room number panels on the side of the door. When we asked the hotel valet guy for a taxi, he pointed us to an unauthorized car which charged us 15 dollar extra for destination only 1.1 miles away from the hotel. We clearly asked the valet guy if they accepted credit card, and he said this was the hotel car. it was unexpected and clearly not met Hilton's brand image to have such front office staff lying to guest. We were in town for a wedding and this hotel had award availability for HHonors. The bed was very comfortable and we were on a high floor, which was nice. Great pillows on the bed. The late-night dining menu was extremely limited (just about a half-dozen items) and the food we had delivered was not very good at all.
