Great place to stay when in La Jolla... Cozy rooms and a SUPER FRIENDLY Staff make your stay a great one. Just two blocks from the beach and in a convenient distance to shops and restaurants. If you're arriving late and do not want to go far - nearly next door is 'the Shack' - a sceny little reataurant with good food (chicken tenders!!!) and some great local brew.

We unexpectedly found ourselves needing a room in La Jolla. We called the Holiday Inn Express and received courteous and helpful treatment. We had an unusual suite that had windows on two courtyards. I would stay there again.

Stayed here with my 3 children (ages 5 -12) and I was pleased that the room was clean and the continental breakfast provided exceeded our expectations. Check in was a breeze and the gentleman who checked us in was very kind to me and my children (which is important to me) and their american girl dolls! LOL Breakfast was delicious! Breakfast items included cheese omelets, turkey sausage, pork sausage, cinnamon rolls, biscuits with gravy, muffins, toast, plain bagels, cinnamon raisin bagels, f... Read more

I stayed in room 109, which is a suite with small kitchenette and living room, on a recent business trip. It was a corner location off La Jolla Blvd. and very central to my activities for the week. I was pleasantly surprised at how quiet it was, despite a few reviews talking about the construction. The receptionist Rali was professional and pleasant and showed me to my room. The room was very clean and quite comfortable - I liked the thick wooden blinds on the windows, general decor, a beautifu... Read more

They are in the midst of a massive renovation. So, parking is way reduced and when you do park, you have to walk a 150 yards or so to your room. The rooms seem to be incomplete: no soap shelf in the shower; no drain cover in the shower floor; the light in the bathroom was positioned so close to the faucet that you could scratch your hand on it. If you are at all physically challenged (I'm not), you would find this place difficult right now. Not sure how I could have gotten to my room by avoi... Read more

The hotel is a qaint property. Very clean. Great lobby. Free soft drinks, lemonade & water. Popcorn too. Cozy atmosphere. No breakfast included. There is a 15.00 parking fee. Fridge included. Secure property iron gates with hotel key access. Ralphs grocery store adjacent. Taco Bell across the street. Restaurant connected to hotel. Hotel staff professional & friendly. Clean rooms. Decent size but not roomy. Slept well. I would stay again. Ashley Serrano Ft. Worth, Texas

Beware!!!!!! Planned this trip in NOVEMBER for travel in June. Been traveling since 3am this morning. The hotel is COMPLETELY under construction. The previous posts say construction will be completed in May. The hotel informs us there are 30 rooms in the whole property that aren't under construction. This is absurd. The blanket has been pulled over our eyes. Disappointing is not even the word. The pool is a pile of GRAVEL. The parking is completely absent. The hotel looks like a pile of rubble.... Read more

The new section of the hotel was built but not yet opened, so we stayed in the original section, and the rooms were very updated and really nice. Spacious and clean. The ONLY issue I had with our room (hence the 4 stars versus 5) were the shower had no door (designed that way) and water happens to get onto the floor if you are not careful, and the sink / fridge / microwave / open closet area was a little tight for 2 folks. The entire area was being worked on but that really didn't bother or inc... Read more

I was so looking forward to a leisure day at the pool but much to my dismay the pool was closed for the new tile/deck work being performed. I arrived after dark and the taxi driver had great difficulty finding the property as scaffolding covered the front of the property. Came in through the dark parking lot with no identifying signage. Cab driver accompanied me to the registration and all was well. Staff very efficient and personable and once the renovation is complete this will be an EXCELLENT... Read more

This Holiday Inn Express would be a 5 star if not for the difficulty in finding it. Due to renovations the sign was absent causing us to drive by several times before we found the parking lot in the back. Our only complaint was a very loud air conditioner which hopefully will be replaced during the renovation. The staff was exceptional. The room was spacious and clean. Their hot breakfast was great, especially the cinnamon rolls. It is centrally located. Highly recommend.

Having stayed for five days at this hotel we would like to recommend it. The staff is friendly and help you with everything from genuinely good restaurant tips to an insider's local tips on nice vistas and other places of interest to see while being in la Jolla. Nice and relaxed atmosphere.

This was a very nice place to stay while we visited La Jolla and San Diego. The office and cleaning staff were very pleasant. The room was superb!!! This hotel has been recently updated and more rooms available soon if not already finished. The pool area was beautiful! My room had a kitchenette with mini refrigerator, microwave & Keurig coffee maker. Flat screen TVs in both living room & bedroom. I could not see the ocean from my room but it was only a short walk to the beach - probably 1 1/2 bl... Read more

Stayed here in August and overall it's a pretty good value. Excellent location just a block from the beach. I walked from the hotel with my chair and umbrella and it was a piece of cake. The beach there has more cliffs than sand but it's still very beautiful. The rooms are nice, there's a refrigerator and microwave. I had to switch rooms because they gave me room 104, and the air conditioner didn't work. I went and told the receptionist and she said "oh yeah, we've had a lot of complaints about ... Read more

This is a great hotel in a good location. It is a short walk from the beach, a lot of restaurants, and other things to do. The hotel was recently remodeled and is very nice. The breakfast is good with a little variety each day. The pool area is really nice but the hot tub could be hotter and have jets. I wore a thong every day to the pool and hot tub without any issues. The staff was very polite and helpful.

Loved this hotel. Friendly and helpful staff. Clean, large rooms. Clean pool (and that is a must for me!). Simple but good breakfast. Recently renovated. Great location - 5 minute walk to beach. Skip the Chinese place next door, not great. Go to Pearl Street (20 minute walk) for lunch and dinner. Lots of good restaurants there. 7-11 is close but you will need to go to Pearl Street CVS for anything you forgot. Baskin Robbins is on Pearl and La Jolla Blvd. Will stay here again.

This is the first time we've stayed at this hotel. It didn't disappoint. It was so clean, the breakfast bar was filling and so fresh. The rooms were like little cottages, with an eating area in the kitchen, also refrigerators and microwaves for your use. The bathroom has been updated and the pool is big and clean. It is only a block and a half from the beach and we were able to walk to the beach and watch the sunset. There is a nice courtyard where you can sit and have your morning coffee... Read more

As the renovation is still on going there were no signs advertising the hotel when I arrived and it took two drive-pasts to work out where the entrance was, however once there the welcome was friendly. The first room I was offered was depressing: it overlooked an open stairwell which itself overlooked (and echoed the traffic of) La Jolla Blvd. As this was partly vacation time I decided to request another room and found myself with a beautiful room forming part of the swimming pool courtyard. ... My stay was for a single night. On the one hand, the check in staff member was pleasant, and her manager really seemed to get customer service. He stepped in to handle tasks as they git complex - a business traveler who urgently needed the wireless to work could not wait longer and asked to go find another hotel without charge (agreed to, which seemed reasonable under the circumstances though not everyone allows it), a lengthening line, and an internal snafu with my room. On the other hand I h... Read more
