My 2 daughters and I stayed here for 5 nights. We had room with 2 queen beds. It was a big room. It could hold 2 king beds. Bathroom very small and had a pedestal sink, which made it worse because you had no room to even put your toothbrush. The location is perfect for Hollywood Blvd. which we walked to every night. Breakfast was Costco muffins and coffee. Would I stay there again? Definitely. It's nothing fancy, but it's clean and in central location. Found out after we got home, that Janis Jop... Read more

Great location for walking to Walk of Fame and seemed very safe. If you are not there for the nostalgia of old Hollywood, you better make sure you get an updated room. Ours was not updated but we loved the fact that Jim Morrison had stayed in this same room in 1967, and most of the room, including the shower, looks to be still as it was back in those days. Room was relatively clean and pretty quiet area. The balcony overlooking the gardens was great. Great experience with the hotel staff, e... Read more

Beware! The Highland Hotel is slightly off the beaten path & not worth the effort. The staff was less than helpful, there's no elevators or ramps for luggage & the rooms are pretty awful. The paint is scratched, the baseboard trim is ripped, there's mold in the bathroom. The overall odor in the room is musty. The carpets seems worn to the floor. We checked in & out pretty promptly, just behind two ladies who had blood on the carpet in their room. The management was not co operative about our co... Read more

We stayed for a Saturday night and were really excited to get such a great location. It is so close to Hollywood and Vine. We have stayed in qute a few Hotels around this area and to be fair - this place is pretty typical. The foyer is open and clean. Gives the impression of a higher level. The rooms have reasonable decor. nothing amazing. The bathrooms are extrremely dated and the showers are very cramped. If you are a bit bigger than average you will find it a tight squeeze. From first appearances when approaching the hotel you get the feeling you've got a great little deal on a hidden gem of a hotel ... nice and close to the star walk and all the action, bright and airy foyer with quite a modern and chic feel about it and a lush looking gardened pool area... This is going to be fantastic! And then you go to your room - and it all unravels from there on in....Whilst the decor isn't too bad, with relatively modern styling, the bathroom, (shower in particular) is revo... Read more

You can't beat the location. Easy walk down Orange St and you're on Hollywood Blvd. The rooms are a decent size, we had a 1 bedroom, but the hotel is in desperate need of an upgrade. The carpet in the closet and bedroom was extremely dirty and the room had a musty smell. This is the second time at a hotel in Cali and I'm starting to think it's a trend.

The price might make you book your stay, but beware of the smell ! The old gas-heathers in the rooms would make every european fire-fighter scream EVACUATE !!! Apartments with kitchen are roomy, yet depressive, even after remodeling. I LOVE the garden inside and the pool !

Just two short blocks north of Hollywood Blvd, this hotel is also close to the Magic Castle. Our room was on the first floor, and was very comfortable. There is a secured garage to keep your car. One thing we did not expect was there was a kitchen and complete separate area from the beds. However it was not air conditioned in there so it was very uncomfortable. we had to keep that door closed all the time to keep the sleeping area cool. Overall an excellent location and within walking distan... Read more

Impressive lobby area but that's where it stops. Receptionist bored and grumpy. Rooms are out dated and grubby - nasty carpets and walls need re-painting and the bathroom re-doing. 'Continental breakfast' is a bit of a joke - bagels and muffins from giant packets and some coffee and orange juice and three tiny tables to sit around. However, great location - a few minutes walk from Hollywood walk of fame and free parking!

The hotel is in a great location. I chose it to be close to Runyan Canyon (it's walking distance). The rooms are pretty large. Definitely request a room facing the inside. I had an outside room which was pretty noisy from the traffic. The hotel is in walking distance to a ton of shops and restaurants. The only problem was the customer service. All the front desk people we encountered were flat and unhappy. The woman who checked us in seemed to be annoyed at us from the get go. If they just smil... Read more

Other reviewers are correct about the Highland Garden Hotel being nasty dirty. I booked this stay though their website and asked for a room with two double beds. At check in we were told we were given an upgrade. The person checking us in said that it was a kitchen suite with one bed and a pull out bed. OK, sounds good. We get to the room to find the pull out bed to be a bare twin mattress covered in plastic and stuuffed lengthwise in the closet. No sheets to go with it just a paper thin dirty l... Read more

Refurbished suite. Nice and clean and spacious. Beds comfortable. Shower over shub was powerful. Staff very friendly. Pool was large and refreshing. Great location to walk to Hollywood boulevard and other nearby attractions. Good pricing too. Recommended.

Needing a place to lay my head until my apartment came available, I checked into this quiet little oasis and was happily surprised. Now, it's not the Ritz but it has all the charm you could want with big rooms, separate full kitchens, huge closets, free WiFi and a killer pool surrounded by beautiful trees and gardens. The staff were busy but tended to all my needs with a smile letting me know I was well appreciated. They are going through renovations, which are a welcome change but if you a... Read more

Be prepared that it's not a Hilton , but it's not that bad as some people wrote here. At the end of the day you get what you paid for! Perfect location with free parking, swimming pool, and great staff, the only thing they need to do is to re-carpet that place There is a CVS pharmacy 3 min walk from the hotel( cross the road in front of the hotel, keep walkin straight , and it 'll be on the second left corner ( Hollywood boulevard ), where you can buy water and snacks

I can't remember ever staying in a more dirty run down neglected hotel in my life. The lobby looks great but both times we stayed here in July 2016 and September 2016 the hallway smelled like urine the rooms both smelled like mold and the linens and carpets were dirty.

My husband and I were driving past this hotel and decided to stop for the night (on our recent trip across California). The hotel has a lovely pool area. The rooms overlooking the pool and the cabin rooms look very nice. Our room was room 201 and somewhat OK (perhaps we should have booked in advance) for the price. It overlooked the main road - Franklin Ave. Room was clean, bathroom was tiny with a very noisy extractor fan and a noisy boiler in a cupboard next to the bathroom. The area location ... Read more

You get what you pay for - and as a traveller who just needs a clean bed, a decent shower and being in close proximity to key places - this hotel was great. Our room was clean. Air con was nice and cold (we arrived in LA to a heat wave). Breakfast was adequate - I work under the theory that any free breakfast is better than no free breakfast so Coffee and bagels were good to me. Great location near a CVS, Hollywood and Vine station is within easy walking distance.

Well to start this hotel is where Janis Joplin died The place was like going back into the 70s and 80s style The room was clean and ok Swam in the pool witch was also great a lot of stuff to do in walking distance The price was fair Would check in again

When I booked the hotel, I read the reviews written by members here. What I'd retain is the issue of cleanliness, not that the rooms are not clean but they need refurbishing and you can find insects. However, the staff were quite pragmatic I have to say, with no hypocrisy, you know the style you see in other hotels "an insect, no way sir, this is the 1st time" on the contrary, they seems used to it and provided a new room directly. Keep it realistic, they do not claim to be 5 star. The breakfast... Read more

We stayed 3 nights and it was the first hotel on our first trip to the US. The location was fantastic as we could easily walk to the main attractions. The gardens are nice. The reception staff did not seem to want to interact with guests. We are non-smokers and there always seemed to be people smoking along the main outside walkway to the rooms. Our room was large, pretty clean and fairly well equipped. However it had a strong chlorine type smell, the bed was cheap and noisy, and there was a bur... Read more

Arriving late - in good faith - my daugther and I checked in at Highland Garden Hotel 7047 Franklin Avenue, Hollywood 17th of October 2016. Reception area looked OK and we were positive and optimistic. We got a studio which were beyond any description. A dirty and shabby room where no one could stay - even for a shorter time. Paint fraying off from the ceiling, cobwebs, grease leftovers on kitchenette wall, a refrigerator which teetered on three legs, rusty cabinet doors, missing lampshade, a bat... Read more

So, admittedly, the first day we got to the hotel a little late (approx. 10pm) - we were driving north from San Diego for a stint at Universal for a couple of days. This hotel looked adorable and charming on the website, and they had halfway decent reviews, and they were perfectly priced - I thought it would be a great deal! We could stay in a cute boutique place before my friend had to go back to Chicago. We arrive at the hotel, and there is no one at the front desk. That's...unusual, but give... Read more
