I have impossibly high standards for hotels, and the St Regis MB actually exceeds them. We stayed at the hotel a few months ago for a family trip with my two young children. The rooms are brand new, and have a clean, modern aesthetic. The views of the water are spectacular. We spent two fabulous days on the pristine, private beach. I could not recommend more highly! We are returning for another stay next weekend!

Was pretty hard on them last time as they were under massive renovation. Happy to report most of it complete but for the pool, which is finished by next weekend. The new lobby area is much better, though don't care for the hard white bulbs in the fixtures, (they do make soft white in LED now yo) but the lobby area and bar and lounge all feel young and fun yet very high end. The new pool will be great, gone are the garish fountains in place of clean lines and less obstruction of the view. The ... Read more

Although the hotel is undergoing major refurbishment and change in management the staff offers uncompromising service and hospitality. From the front desk to the dining room and the maid service, everyone did their job with a smile and a willingness to make our stay memorable. After ordering the catch of the day we were advised that they were out of that entree. So we ordered a paella dish for two which was very good. But since it would take 20 min to prepare, our waiter offered a salad on the h... Read more

This would have been a solid 4 or 5 star property, but I was not impressed with the staff. We were here for a conference, so my room was paid for (maybe it was a very discounted rate, I don't know) and the conference was to conclude at 12:30pm. When we checked in, the front desk staff (who was very nice) said that they would not be able to accommodate a late checkout as the hotel was full. The resort is beautiful and in a lovely location. We were there for a conference but decided to add an extra night. We have stayed here before, and had the same impressions both times. Cons: 1. Pool was being renovated without us being informed. With 2 pools, one should have been open at least. A big disappointment. 2. The bathrooms are dated and doors are awful. They have sliding shutters for doors (annoying) and no separate door for the toilet area. 3. The restaurant Stonehill Ta... Read more

The new restaurant Aveo is nice but it was a disaster, food was not good, server forgot two of our meals and the next day we went for Breakfast they forgot to put my name in when we arrived, after 20 minutes of waiting they finally wrote my name down. We arrived late after a long day at Disneyland and were greeted with a welcome note and snacks in our room for the kids- they were thrilled! We had to wait 1 1/2 for the room to be inspected even though it was clean. whatttt! I expected way more from this hotel as far as service and quality. The pool service lacks. The free stays using my SPG points. All forgotten. I do not like the changes. The room decor was so much better before. Now, that this resort is no longer in Starwood...it's not worth going. Our stay was wonderful and the service was excellent nearly everywhere from front desk to butler service. We just spent two nights in the newly renovated and remodeled Monarch Beach Resort. When I say "newly", I mean 15 days after the Grand Re Opening. This property was formally known as the St Regis. The new owners invested $50 million in renovations. One would expect problems, delays, issues with the food service, but we didn't experience any issues. I will NEVER come back here, even for free. The grounds are beautiful and the staff tries, but they are no where near being able to understand, let alone run, a resort at the level they want Monarch Beach Resort to be - they fail in many ways and for what they charge, I think it is truly shameful. This was going to be offered as long as the room was not booked again! On the day of the ck in I was told it was not booked and I mentioned our 6pm check out and no one told me that was not possible! So 1st day went fine but not as perfect as they said it would be some of my promises was not fulfilled but I did not complain. Came 2... Read more

Spent a small fortune to stay here for a long weekend. Close to 5 stars, but there were some disappointments. First, the aspects that were absolutely amazing. The property and rooms are phenomenal. Dinner at Stonehill Tavern was one of the best fine dining experiences we've ever had. Loved the spa. And then, the letdowns. My Mom had called the concierge one day prior to our checkin to surprise us with a gift card and a note. Hotel charged her card, but no gift was delivered. Kind of ruined w... Read more

The grand old resort is fantastic. The view as you walk in is breath-taking. The rooms are a bit dated, but the rest of the resort shows it's recent $40 million overhaul. The rooms themselves are clean and well kept, and the marble bathrooms with separate showers are top notch! I'm not a golfer, but the course looked fantastic and was quite busy. Try for the midweek summer special as it offers the best prices in the area! From the bellboy, to the maid, to valet, to office staff: all the emp... Read more

Been to this lovely property several times before under St Regis management- always a treat. Now, since renovation and with new Miraval management it is EVEN BETTER! 6 nights here without 1 single negative to report. Every employee- from pool staff, valet, front desk, bell staff, concierge, restaurants, and event team has been professional, delightful, friendly- perfect. Truly! Even the "banquet" breakfasts have very nice with excellent and attentive staff. An outdoor buffet patron the gre... Read more

6 star service. Beautiful rooms. Many excellent restaurants and the Miraval Spa. We could not ask for more. AVEO restaurant is wonderful for both lunch and dinner. Miraval offers great massages, I recommend a personal massage with Maria or Debra and the Ultimate Ayurvedic treatment with James.

I cannot say enough about the resort and the staff! From the moment we walked in until we drove away we were taken care of the entire weekend! The change in ownership was seamless! Thank you all! We will be back!

Very large resort. Recently remodeled and taken over. We had a lovely stay in a suite. We were provided a butler. The lobby is open air and breathtaking. There is a starbucks in the lobby. The beds were super comfy. There is a wonderful supply of luxury bath products provided including sun block lotion. We'll definitely be back.

This property was bought by a private company and hence it is no longer the St. Regis. It shows and feels that way, too. The grounds have definitely improved since the change took place but their service has gone south. We had so many issues... from the minute we checked in to service by the pool... the food isn't what it used to be, either. It's a shame, because they are charging higher prices than the St. Regis did. For the price we paid for a one bedroom suite, we expected a lot more. We... Read more

We recently stayed 4 nights in a quiet room with our own fire pit! The room was large, towels thick and bath products wonderful. The bathroom has both a shower and a tub. One of the things we loved was the breeze at the pool. You are a bit on a hill and while at the pool you overlook the ocean. I did not have the opportunity to take the shuttle to the beach but friends said it was very nice. Food was good and the chef even was willing to prepare a salt free chicken dish for me. Would definitely... Read more

Overall enjoyed our long weekend stay at MBR. In terms of pros...the grounds are very well kept (plants & flora beautifully arranged, fountains, small botanical garden--make it nice for quiet or romantic stroll around the property), open lobby, restaurants & lounges have nice areas maximizing sunset ocean views. The renovated rooms were comfortable and tastefully decorated. There were some ants in our bathroom that seemed to increase each day (I think there was a crack in the floor). We did noti... Read more

We we underwhelmed. The remodel is gorgeous, the style is chic and the rooms are top notch!!! BUT the service was deplorable! We waited for service everywhere we went. It seemed as though they were understaffed. When we asked if they were, they said NO! It's too bad! Unless service improves drastically, we will not go back! For the price you are paying...much better off going to Pelican Hill in Newport Beach!

First time staying here. Enticed by the Miraval Spa. The rooms were nice. Light green color with a lot of white. Nice sized bathroom. Our was on the fourth floor with spacious balcony overlooking the great lawn. (not real grass) The spa is large and the new section very nice in light woods and soft colors. The older section is darker and the old lockers dated and are glitchy. The waterfall with the indoor jacuzzi in the locker room is a treat. Separate spa pool for laps is nice with an outdoor ... We stayed at the Monarch Bay Beach Resort in July for 3 nights, the grounds are beautiful and the rooms great, spacious, elegant, the food not so bad, ( had much better elsewhere in Laguna beach) the pool was lovely, if a little too warm and the pool service, excellent! We chose the property because previous to arriving we did all the busy things California had to offer, Disney, Universal, Hollywood. A few days at the beach at the end of the vacation was just what we needed. Lets start with th... Read more

We had not visited the MBR since their major renovation. Wow, the place looks fantastic. From the bellman who met us in the breezeway when we arrived to the front desk and wait staff, the staff could not have been nicer or more courteous and attentive. We dined in both the fine dining, Stonehill Tavern, and more casual restaurant in the hotel as well as at the beach and all were top notch. The food and service at Michael Mina's Stonehill was superb.

We've stayed at this property under St. Regis management several times in the past. We loved it there. No more. New management has completely destroyed the luxury experience. Beach: Chairs are now stored outdoors, which is not only an eyesore, but chairs are rusted and nonfunctional. The beach isn't cleaned; I was told it's the law now? The security(???) roaming the beach club area is intimidating and makes one wonder why security is necessary. Club service for drinks on the beach is slow, o... Read more

We stayed here last August 2015 (it was still part of the Starwood Family; the resort was previously called the St. Regis). Beautiful resort. Went with the family. Relaxing. Hotel is clean. Didn't eat at the resort, ate at local restaurants close by. Pool is a good size. You take a golf cart to the beach. Beach was okay, there is plenty of seaweed on the sand. Didn't particularly like this part of it.

We spent 3 wonderful days at this resort and the end of a 12 day family vacation. There was tons to do even though we ended up relaxing by the pool and the beach for most of the time. The kids thoroughly enjoyed the pool and the splash pad as well as their time on the beach. The views were incredible and the room was fantastic. The service was top notch as well. Everyone was friendly, helpful and attentive and more importantly not overbearing. The food was excellent. We listened to some m... Read more

This property has just gone through a $40 million dollar remodel and it's even better. While it's no longer an SPG property the staff still exemplifies St. Regis qualities. The pool area was greatly improved despite being beautiful to begin with, gone our fountains but replaced with infinities pools at the edge. Added cabanas and extra seating areas. The main lobby bar has a new vide and it's a great place for a drink with friends or a night cap or two. The coffee shop was a great improvement as... Read more

Monarch beach resort was the friendliest and best hotel I have stayed at, the service from everyone from valet to servers and housekeeping staff was amazing, thank you for the great experience, the beach and pools were amazing, the only criticism is that there's no enforcement of adult pool being for adults only, to the ignorant parents who have total disregard for other guests should stay somewhere else, doesn't mean you paid for the stay that you can do what you want.
