Room was clean and fresh-smelling; exercise room satisfactory with usual equipment and free weights; full breakfast; outdoor pool and hot tub. Less than 10 minute walk to beach, which is lovely. Across the street from shopping center with food options.

Courtney and KC handled the checkin, both were pleasant and courteous. Hotel was spotless clean with coffee and tea available 24/7. Did not experience all the "kids" noise others have reported. Pool and hot tub were fine. Breakfast was ample, but hot items were lukewarm to cold within a few minutes of being brought out. Not the servers fault. Easy walk to the beach and nearby shopping including a large major grocery and drug store. Great location.

I was in town for my friends wedding and a little beach time. I chose this hotel because of the location, it was literally minutes to the beach and shopping and right off the freeway in Carlsbad. My stay was good. Our room was amazing ,the beds and pillows were amazingly comfortable. Very nice room. There was a heated pool and spa, they had a daily continental breakfast that was really good and convenient so you don't have to go out. Very quiet and clean. The staff was really sweet except one o... Read more

I booked two rooms for the weekend of May 21-23 because I had kids that were eager to visit Legoland. I was given rooms 345 and 346. 346 had the king-size bed and overlooked the pool. 345 overlooked the parking lot. Rooms were nice. Free breakfast was typical of a holiday inn express. Immediately outside of the main lobby is a Benihana. The only thing I would recommend to the hotel is getting an extra pancake maker. One is not enough.

My room was clean and quiet, with good A/C as needed. There was complimentary breakfast of which I never took advantage, so I can't comment on that. WiFi was free and easy to connect and there were lots of fast-foodish restaurants very close by. And a Ralph's grocery store as well. The bathroom could use a soapdish, as another traveller mentioned, and there was not a single nightlight to be found. (would it kill them to put one in the bathroom? I almost broke my leg falling over the coff... Read more

This hotel is very clean and the staff is very helpful we came to S.D. for our anniversary and after a 7 1/2 hour drive we were promptly checked in we requested a room facing opposite of the freeway after reading reviews from others . I loved being able to grab a fresh cup of coffee and walk down to the beach just minutes away first thing in the morning also appreciated the microwave and mini fridge in the room. The staff is very helpful in guiding us on our daily excursions very close to variou... Read more

After researching weeks in advance on where to stay while visiting Carlsbad my family and I decided on this location. I'm so glad we did because after arriving and seeing the property we were amazed. Not only is it located within minutes of Legoland which is our main reason for visiting and bringing our 4 year old child for his first ever Vacation but the staff was awesome. The day we arrived we checked in but our room was not ready when it should have been so they offered us appetizers at a ... Read more

I will start this review with a positive. Sherry at the front desk did her best to smooth over the bad experience the night we arrived. I felt bad for her because I could tell that she was not properly trained and coached. Having been a leader and mentor in the corporate world the look of dis pare and confusion on this poor woman's face was hard to deal with. Shame on the management team at this property. However she fought thru and I am thankful for that. When we arrived the staff had not accom... Read more

Jessica B. was awesome! We had problems with our reservations at another hotel. We were hot, tired and cranky. Jessica calmed my wife and kids down. She gave us a great room, and we had a great stay. We will definitely come again!

Most of us are familiar with the Holiday Inn Express hotels. This is another one set up very much like the rest of them. This one is certainly not the newest one in the chain and although generally just fine, we were disappointed with one little service matter. Although we made our reservation months ago and prepaid our stay, I guess because we were a late check in . . . or perhaps because we were paying a lower rate, we were put in a room right next to the mechanical equipment room on the first... The pool and the breakfast made this a great place for families. It is two blocks from the beach. Close to Legoland and a grocery store. The hotel was full for two of the nights I was there, so there were a couple of glitches (trash towering over the entrance and not enough keys for both of us to have on at check-in, we got a second in the am). They ran very low on yogurt at breakfast, but there were other choices.

We were in Carlsbad for two days for a lacrosse tournament. We were able to check in early with Makayla, she was so courteous and went out of her way to make sure we were able to check in before we had to leave for our first game. As a matter of fact, all of the ladies at the front desk were very kind and courteous! The last day we were there I wanted to take advantage of the washer and dryer, and there were no quarters down at the front desk (it was a busy weekend for the washer/dryer), a ver... Read more

The Holiday Inn Express is located within walking distance to the State Beach, a Ralph's, Subway and a few restaurants. It is a 10 to 15 minute drive to a great outlet mall and Legoland. Hotel was clean, breakfast was the usual fair and pool was fine.

Overall, this is a nice hotel. The room was spacious for me and my 2-year-old visiting for Legoland. We had a king size bed, it worked for us. The bathroom is spacious as well and I really liked the design of the shower, just wished their was a removable shower head, as it was kind of high up to adjust for me and my daughter, possible engagement?? I would not give this place 5 stars, because the customer service was not up to par. Check-in was nice, but I was placed in the furthest room from t... Read more

It was 1:00 and I went to check in with one lady and she started checking me in, My friend went to the other desk and she was very rude and said she couldn't check her in. Close to the freeway, so easy to find. Complimentary parking, and friendly staff. Room was decent, as expected from a holiday inn express. Even though I stayed for work in the area, most guests seem to be families visiting legoland and other attractions. Limited dinner options in the immediate area, but there is a benihana??s next door. As with most hotels in this area, everything else requires a car. All in all, a pleasant stay.

I had to make several last minute bookings at this Holiday Inn Express Inn Hotel & Suites. Somehow, in the confusion of booking through, an extra room was booked. Given that the stay was to be somewhat long, six days, the unintended booking cost over $800. The 48 hour cancellation period had passed by the time we came to check into the hotel and the only hope of cancellation lay with the the hotel. However, the very professional and personable front desk attendant, Makayla, came t... Read more

We stayed here after an afternoon on San Diego, and heading to LEGOLAND the next morning .... It was a nice hotel, w/ groceries and dining options close by. After checking in, we took a quick drive to the beach for a quick dip of our toes in the Pacific. Nice breakfast in the morning, and again a quick drive to LEGOLAND ....

I arrived to Holiday Inn after a hectic work day. The front desk associate Jessica was very helpful and the nice young man, didn't catch his name, that helped me with mine and my co workers bags but he was awesome. The service was really great. The pillows were comfortable and breakfast was good! My co-worker and I will definitely be back next month! -Jenn

This hotel is SUPER! Specially their front desk staff, but i would have to say that KC stands out the most. She is so gracious, helpful, and NICE. Always asking my family if we needed anything, helping us find a spot during breakfast, asking us if we wanted a high chair for my 3 year old....etc. She was ALWAYS on top of it. I have NEVER stayed at a hotel where the service was amazing like KC was to my family and I. I absolutely adore her. The pool was nice, room was a perfect size, close to the ... Read more

We have had six days in Carlsbad and love the area. Our stay at the Holiday inn Express has been pleasant but it doesn't have any bells or whistles. Staff are friendly, breakfast is included and satisfactory and rooms are clean and tidy. Good value for money and close to Legoland and the outlets. Carlsbad area has heaps to offer and is a good relaxation place.

We use HIE several times per year for vacation travel, we are in our 50's for reference. While we know they will always be acceptable, this property and especially the staff were exceptional! The room was GREAT, exhaust fan in bath (nice) great HVAC controls, super clean, and, the stay was 5 days, so the friendliness and casual courtesy of the staff was really nice, a maintenance tech even casually mentioned when we shared the elevator "if there is anything we can do to make your stay better, ju... I last reviewed this property three years ago while it was still brand new. At the time I predicted it would be run down sooner than later. I was pleasantly surprised at my recent visit to find that for the most part, the property has held up quite well to the hard use it endures from the LegoLand set (which definitely describes me and my brood). The rooms maintain their modern decor and comfort. The furniture is showing a little wear and tear, but honestly not too much. It remains a good value... Read more

I was really disappointed with this hotel. As a Platinium Ambassador, my expectetations were high. I rejected the first room as it smelt old and musty. The next room was right next to the parking lot and noisy. The rooms are old and tired. There is free internet and parking and the breakfast is ok. Nice location, well equipped room. We have a king executive room. It's a corner room with a nice view. Close to major roads but not really any traffic noise. Front desk staff very nice and friendly. Our first issue walked into room temperature about 82 in the room. Turned on a/c and headed out for a few hours. When we came back the room was cool and comfortable. This is a very nice hotel, clean, nice lobby and very friendly staff. You can walk a block down the street and be on the beach or hop in your car and be on the 5 Freeway in a minute. Carlsbad is a seaside community that has a great climate, so you would not think of needing an air conditioner here. However, I do like some air circulation while I sleep and didn't want to open the window facing the parking lot on the first floor. No vent option on the heating/cooling unit so we turned the AC o...
