I am staying at this hotel for a few weeks. I got here by grabbing a deal on, and I liked it so much that I decided to stay. The hotel was built in the 80s but is recently renovated. It's right off the highway, so you can hear the traffic, but it's not close enough to be a problem. Not much of a view, but the drive to the ocean is only five minutes. Cardiff-by-the-sea is a nice little town. The walks and views by the ocean are just gorgeous. So, the hotel: the main room at the entranc... Read more

Comfortable room with a very comfortable bed. Quiet neighborhood with only a few gas stations. Park in walking distance. Beach was a mile or so drive away. The pool was not heated. And the tiny jacuzzi was being used by an employee's children when we went to soak, so we didn't get to use it. The buffet breakfast was very good and plenty of choices. Plenty of parking. Polite staff.

Stayed here for about a week in March 2016 for a business trip. Pros: The hotel was clean Friendly staff WiFi pretty reliable and no issues with Netflix Great water pressure in the shower and water gets as hot as you could possibly want Located right next to I-5 so getting to the nearby areas is a cinch Although near the interstate the road noise was not a problem Plenty of parking Comfortable bed Spacious room with plenty of closet space Laundry facility wasn't too busy so no waiting required ... Let me start by saying that the staff here is very pleasant. The breakfast buffet is the regular HI Express breakfast. The breakfast area was clean and constantly maintained. In fact, almost any time I was there, someone was adding, taking away, adjusting or otherwise maintaining the buffet. One of the mornings we were there, the (back) door to the "kitchen" (food prep) area was left open and there was a cart there - in plain site - filled with trash. Thought maybe it was on its way out. ... Read more

I was here on a business trip which required me to print a bunch of documents in a hurry. Other hotels just point me towards a business center, and could careless if accomplished what I need, but not here! Edi at the front desk was super helpful, nice and very accommodating in getting me everything I needed, in a fast and friendly manner... her actions saved my butt, and I really appreciated it! Beyond that the room was very clean, and comfortable, I had forgotten a toothbrush and they cheer... Read more

This place was a little gem because it has easy freeway access, but once inside it is quiet and serene. The staff was especially efficient and welcoming. The room facing a plant covered wall was cozy and very private. You can walk from the hotel right next door for good Mexican food, and even get your car washed next door. There is a nice neighborhood in which to walk going east from the hotel. For a night`s reprieve this was a perfect hotel. You will hear the freeway from the pool area. The breakf... Read more

My husband and I booked a room at the Holiday Inn Express at the last minute on and we got a great deal! Don't let the location off of the freeway deter you, the property is very modern, clean and comfortable! The location is also great for exploring the Northern San Diego county beaches and their cute communities. Upon check in, the staff was super friendly and helpful and that continued through check out. Our spacious King room on the 1st floor was very clean and quiet. I was rea... Read more

I've stayed here several times but I've never seen the hotel in such rough shape. Our room smelled like mildew, the carpet (I never took my flip flops off) the halls are dingy with low lighting, the hall carpet very worn, the massive cigarette butts outside the back doors gross and such an easy fix with an ashtray or even a can for people to throw them into. The back doors are beat up a buzz kill as an entrance. I can't believe they can ask $285/night on weekends in the summer. The staff is ... Read more

Hotel has a strange smell. Room is ok. Bedding seems comfortable, quiet. Location is up the hill from the beach but right off the 5. Breakfast still a mystery. Restaurants are at least 1/2 mile away and none in walking distance except at the car wash next door.

Great service. I really enjoyed my stay. The highlight was the free breakfast and clean rooms. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming. I would definitely stay here again in the future especially because of the rewards program.

Nice hotel. We arrived Encinitas very late in the evening and was happy to find a hotel right off the freeway (interstate 5). And through we got a great deal for a room at this nice hotel. Upon check in, the staff was super friendly and helpful and that continued through check out. The room was very clean and quiet. We stayed there for only one night, and I will definitely stay there next time I'm going to Encinitas. FREE parking, wifi and breakfast. Easy access to unpack the car. H... Read more

My husband and I stayed for one night. When we arrived, the girl at the front desk named Rachelle was wonderful. She was so courteous and helpful. We went to our room and we had just spent the day at del mar state fair and we were to tired to go out for food, so I called down to the front desk and Rachelle was so helpful with places that deliver, she even brought take out menus to our room so we didnt have to come down to the desk since we had a very long day. I had first booked our stay at the Ramada which was closer to Legoland (family of 5 with 3 kids). The kids eagerly wait for this time of the year because they love staying at a hotel n taking advantage of the pool amenity. However, we were not aware that the Ramada was under construction and their swimming pool was closed? We arrived 2 hours before check-in time and the manager told me to come back at 3pm, never did she mention the pool was under construction? When we went back to check-in @4pm,... Read more

Nice place to book a room if traveling to Legoland. The Hotel is located in a nice area only two stories high, nice clean room for business or just a place to rest after a long day at Legoland. The Hotel offers complimentary breakfast, ??grab a fruit before going to Legoland.??

This hotel is located very close to Legoland which was very convenient. They have a good breakfast. The rooms were clean. The beach is a short drive away. The jacuzzi in the pool area was under maintenance so we we were not able to use it

For its name n fame its is by far the best for someone looking at $130-$150 a night spend for travellers to Legoland, Carlsbad, San Diego, and by Road to Mexico. Whereas others around would charge much higher. Comfortable bed complimented with a wow hot breakfast. Off I5 it's a cozy paradise.

I have stayed here on and off for over the past 25 years and it has never let me down. ( it was the Country Inn or something before Holiday inn bought it out) The location is perfect as it is just 30 minutes from Sea World ( see my review on this disappointing place) and 12 minutes from LEGOLAND ( great for kids). Although older, it is well maintained and very clean. The rooms are very nice for the price, but not luxury. The rooms are well insulated to dampen the noise from your neighbor. The... Read more

I frequently would need to go to San Diego for work, and this hotel is on top of the list for me. Some of my positives are: *Friendly staff - Everyone there is very nice and helpful! *Included breakfast - I leave for work up to an hour before their posted breakfast time, so its great that we can grab something to munch on like fruits. *No microwave in the room? No problem, the microwave in the dining area can be used. They also leave the utensils and plates from breakfast to usage, and there'... Read more

Good price, and good service. Jason, the overnight front desk agent was very nice and accommodating to change our last minute request of changing to a king instead of 2 queen room. Booked on hoteltonight an hour before arrival. Hot complimentary breakfast is a nice addition! Only down side was there was an odd smell which is why I gave 4 stars. Other than that, everything was still worth it.

Last minute reservation, wasn't 100% sure based on other photos but was pleasantly surprised with accommodations. Bath soup was great, towels were comfortable, refrigerator was ice cold, room was modern. Friendly greeting at front desk, was given a choice on 1st or 2nd floor, enjoyed cookies available at front desk, breakfast looks to be amazing have not had it yet. Wifi was strong and fast. Will definitely be coming back.

On September 10th while I was cleaning out and loading my car, a man approached and started shouting and threatening me. When I moved away to avoid him he turned on the ignition and tried driving off. Out of shock I got on the passenger side and tried to stop him but he pulled out a knife and started swinging and threatening me with it. A man saw all this happen and drove his car to block the robber from driving off with mine The robber ran off and we called the police who arrived in about 20 m... Read more

And what my budget was she contacted her manager and they set me up on a fantastic price for four weeks day. Staff went out of their way to make it affordable for me to stay in the area close to my job love this place.

I have very low expectations for hotels. All I want is a clean place to sleep at the end of a long day. I am awake at 1:00am because this room is so hot I can't sleep. I'd try to request a room change but I have three kids that can apparently sleep in a furnace with no problem and there's no way I'm waking them up. Also awake because an alarm clock radio was set to go off at 12:45am and hidden under a dresser. That was fun to try to find in the dark before the kids woke up! Also had to request n... Read more

This property is not by beach! When I booked with Central Reservations I was told this property was oceanfront. This property is in a run down neighborhood off hwy. 5. Another traveler checking in at the same time had been led to believe the same thing (ocean front property, room facing water). Central booking is a liar, liar pants on fire! This Holiday Inn is great in many ways. It has comfortable beds, and a great breakfast buffet. However, coffee was not replenished in our room (we were there 4 nights) and we had to go to the front desk to get more. Also had to ask for more than 3 hangers. Staff was very nice.

Came here for a few nights with the family. It's really a 3 star hotel in my opinion. The 4th star was for the great people that work here. Check in and check out were great. Free parking was also great. Breakfast is what it is. It's included in your room price so it's a nice feature. Our room 163 needed some love in the bathroom and a good cleaning of the couch. The bed and pull out bed were comfortable. Great selection of tv channels, nice tv and plenty of drawer space. The hotel is well insul... Read more
