My daughter and I drove route 66 from Chicago to LA and I wanted to end our journey with a stay in a retro motel. I knew of the Safari Inn, having stayed at The Coast Annabelle 3 years ago, thoroughly enjoying the newly renovated room we had there. The Safari Inn is clean and definitely brings me back to a few childhood road trips with my family. I enjoyed the retro feel of the place and appreciated that it was clean and simple. On the positive side, the beds were comfortable, everything wo... Read more

This is a great retro motel. It has been lovingly remodeled and updated, and yet it retains the charm of its 1958 sign. The folks at the front desk at check in were genuinely friendly and helpful. My room was clean and comfortable. There is a sister hotel nearby, with a restaurant called Olive's Bistro that filled the bill nicely for dinner. Check out was efficient and courteous. I'd recommend staying here if you are in the area!

We really liked this little motel ... Rooms were clean, quiet, and good-sized (bigger than the $250 room at the Marriott we'd just left), heated pool, though small, was wonderful after a day on our feet at Universal, and parking and shuttle were both free! (You have to reserve the shuttle; sounds like they don't always have a driver.) Great value for the money, but note that they require a hefty deposit. (It did come off our card within 2 business days.) The restaurant is mediocre but convenient... Read more

The Safari Inn is a 1960s one up, one down hotel that has been recently remodeled. Our room was clean and comfortable. The pool was very well maintained and a great place to relax after a day of sightseeing. You can't beat the vintage neon sign out front. We chose it because we didn't want to stay in LA or Hollywood and because a friend recommended several restaurants nearby. Plus the prices for rooms was much more affordable. The staff was great! The room was fine and big enough for the two of us. The mattress was terrible. I could feel the coil springs jabbing me. I did ask the front desk if they could change it out, but was told probably not due to it being a Saturday. We went for breakfast and came back to what looked like maintenance in the process of changing it out. We left for the day and came back to what we thought was a different mattress. It wasn't...It definitely was the same mattress. Didn't say anything... Read more

Haven't stayed here but my daughter will be in August this year. She is 19 and will be travelling on her own. I read the reviews and noticed it's over two floors and that you needed to book the shuttle bus to get to Universal Studio. Stayed at this hotel 1 night. Im sure 50 yrs ago this place would be considered fine. The décor is so old it appears unsanitary, this is a motel so your room door opens to the parking lot. The carpet is so old and matted that I didn't want to take of my socks. The road noise from outside is so loud its like having episodes of cops on the TV all night while you try to sleep Just saw this advertised for $300/night, are you kidding me.

We stayed here when we visited Universal Studios. It's an old hotel, but it was clean. The beds were comfortable. Our stay was very nice. The front desk staff were very nice and friendly and helpful with anything that we needed. They were always well staffed and courteous. The beds were a bid uncomfortable for my back, but rooms were very clean. Would stay again.

Thank you for making our stay more pleasant than expected! All services were at the highest level. We didn't stay for very long, however, all was enough to warrant a return trip back. The only amenities we used was the Shuttle ride to and from Universal Studios. There was nothing negative at all during our entire stay!

The rooms are clean, the hotel is cute and in a good quiet location but close to things. The pool is great. The shuttle service could use some work but otherwise it was a great experience and we would stay there again.

We were greeted and we were a little early for check in but they checked us in. So we talked about setting up a time for our drop off to Universal Studios, a room was ready for us. They ladies at the desk were great, and they even suggest a couple of places for lunch.

I wanted to love this place. And I did in fact for the first day I was there. That is until it was time to actually sleep. HORRIBLE mattress and pillows. Literally THE most uncomfortable mattress/pillow/bedding situation I've ever experienced in my life. NOT an exaggeration. Impossible to get a good night's sleep.

Did a quick trip down for the holiday weekend and found the Safari Inn with a hotel and park pass. Perfect for the kids because there was a pool, great for all of us because we did not want to rent a car - so the shuttle got us from the airport and was able to bring us to the different parks that we were visiting

Very Nice staff, clean rooms, I would rate Safari Inn a 5 if they had newer and more comfortable beds and pillows. We didn't try the restaurant nor did we use the gym. It can be a little noisy but it didn't bother us. I think the price is right for Burbank.

The Safari Inn has become a standard place for us to go whenever we are in the area because of its exceptional cleanliness, service and good location. Although the rooms have all the amenities needed, the place, overall is a little aged and could use a modernization makeover; however, it still remains the best deal in town.

My partner myself and a friend had booked two nights at Safari Inn for the primary purpose of going to universal studios. The front desk staff here are just amazing, the friendliest and most helpful staff we came across in our 5 weeks of travel. The cons however are the beds in the rooms which we all found very uncomfortable and difficult to sleep on especially if there is more than one person in a bed. If you are looking to find somewhere affordable to stay with easy access to Universal Studios... Read more

It was better than expected based on reviews. The room was clean, the beds are comfortable and the guy in the reception was nice even though I arrived to my check in at 2 am. It's a regular Inn. The only cons are that they charged for the staying in advance (right after the reservation), I've stayed in other places in LA and in Florida and they don't usually do that. Also they don't offer breakfast, I just stayed for one night and that was not a real problem to me but I would consider that if th... Read more

This a cute place to stay. It's the quintessential drive up Motel. It's kept very clean, the staff are cleaning all day. Our room was spacious, it was a one bedroom suite, full kitchen (we only used the fridge....) and air conditioning that does not make you want to go outside to warm up-a good thing. The swimming pool is not large. But it is warm, and relaxing. warning--it gets deep, fast. I would stay here again.

Me and my two tween sons stayed here both in May and again just last week and simply love this hotel. We love the retro style, it's close proximity to Universal Studios with the complimentary shuttle service to/from. The rooms are always very clean and nicely decorated and comfortable. And the staff are wonderful! Very kind and professional. We especially love the shuttle driver. This hotel was pretty good, it has a great location and the rooms are very clean. The beds are very uncomfortable and need to be updated. Also our room shared a wall with the vending machine and ice machine. The noise from those machines was so loud at night through the wall.

We got stranded at the airport for about an hour, prearranged shuttle did not arrive. But a couple of calls to the desk and they told us to take a taxi, which they paid for. A bit scary for the start of a trip, but all else fell into place. Room was nice, shuttle thereafter was spot on. Great location and well done on keeping a local hotel in decent shape.

This is one of my favourite hotels in LA -- it's clean, well-located in Burbank, has friendly, helpful staff, has clean bathrooms and has a super cool connection to a host of TV shows and movies filmed here over the years. It's really close to a CVS and supermarket as well as some dining options. It's really easy to get to Universal Studios from here and they even run a free return shuttle bus. The pool area is right on the road, but it's cool to take a dip there to cool off in summer. The famou... Read more

It's one of those times when I'm almost hesitant to say, because we want to be able to come back any time we can. It's a Motel, so if you want the Ritz, book that instead. What we got here was a very convenient location; excellent quality of sleep in a very clean room, on a super comfy king bed; a pristine heated pool; and frankly outstanding service from Manager Mary Ann, who welcomed us warmly, and had great recommendations for local treats. Enjoy the rooms and the neighborhood. No problems what so ever. Lots of eating places within walking distance. Drug store also in walking distance, Starbuck and a donuts shop and McDonalds all with in a five minute walk. Several places to have a great breakfast. From the economical to the more expensive. All with great food and different kind of food. Some open 24 hours a day.

The front desk staff was extremely friendly and helpful. We felt very safe in the area and even walked to dinner to a great restaurant about a mile from the hotel. Their daytime reservations and front desk staff were efficient over the telephone. The room entrances are adequately isolated from the street noise and pedestrians because they would have to pass through the driveway in plain view of the registration desk. .In the neighborhood, there are 2 mini strip malls, a drug store, multiple fast food restaurants within 3 blocks' walking distance, and a Chase Manhattan bank branch. We were looking for somewhere that had good access to LA as well as the surrounding area without the hassles of Valet Parking or pricey charges for parking. The Safari gave this and is an iconic establishment to boot. Our suite was clean, comfortable, nicely appointed and reasonably priced. Had no issues with noise despite being on a busy road. There were enough local shops/eateries nearby which proved really useful. Overall, would definitely stay there again and would certainly recommend.

After some research I found that this hotel would be the best deal for our 2 night stay at universal. The free shuttle to the theme park was the clincher, as was the free parking. We were allowed to check in early which was nice. The room itself wasn't anything to write home about, but we were only in it long enough to sleep and shower. We went to Universal Studios and needed a cheap hotel to stay the night. The hotel was clean and the staff was nice. My kids enjoyed swimming in the heated pool and it was even 8ft deep. The beds were average and had a nice clean bathroom. For the price it was a nice hotel and would stay there again. The next morning we went to Bobs Big Boy diner just down the street and it was great.
