The place is very (and I repeat) VERY quaint. The staff is very relaxed, in fact upon check in a wolderful older women greeted us after a couple chimes of the front bell. While there are not much amenities other than the in room jacuzzi and fireplace, the location is ideal for snowbuds and bunnies looking for a place close to Snow Summit. The rooms are a tad outdated and could use a good deep cleaning. The unused pool was dirty and filled will leaves and ice water, and a blue tarp, lol. I stayed... Read more

The sweetest employees were all so nice and we had such an amazing time in this room. Jacuzzi in the ROOM!! So amazing!! We got a good deal off priceline as well. Not kidding, might have had one of the best naps of my life here. Such an amazing vibe. Would stay here again in a heartbeat!

I stay here 3 times a month. Warm, Friendly staff. Rita and Katrina are the best ! All the staff are. I lost something and 2 weeks later Rita found that someone returned it after finding it outside. I cook a full dinner in my kitchen, sit at the table with friends in front of the fire and watch tv and the snow. My dog loves it and the grounds are beautiful. Like a forest !! Walk across the street for a good dinner or hop over to the village. True mountain cozy.

Loved our room, huge room for the money and a huge 2 person jacuzzi tub and a king sized bed. Needless to say we spent a lot of time in the room, enjoying the amenities... If you know what I mean. Very central location, and they have an attached spa with massages. Downside's; they are right next to the street, not very private. The walls are super thin... You can hear kids crying and people arguing, I can't really complain since I'm sure we were heard as well. None of the furniture matched and e... Read more

I stayed in a lovely cabin called "Cynthia" at the back of the property where is was very quiet and peaceful. I came up to do work and didn't do much of that, but had a great time. The property is old, but very well kept and clean. With the exception of the dishes in the cabin. I presume this is because the previous guests just did a crappy job of cleaning them. I might suggest that the house staff do a once over of the dishes once in awhile. The kitchen had the basic pots and pans but was ... Read more

I must say the staff was friendly. Very spacious chalet with all the kitchen amenities you could possibly need. The furniture is a little outdated so are some of the TVs in the room but for the price you really can't beat it. The bed downstairs was a little uncomfortable but the two upstairs in the Loft were excellent. They have some cute little cabins but I would suggest if you know you're going to stay here to make sure that they open the windows and freshen up the cabins before you get here. ... Read more

Being my second time at Black Forest Lodge, I am happy to say they did not disappoint. From the start the lady working the front desk was very kind and helpful and allowed me to check in early as soon as the maids cleaned the room. I've been here in the Winter and Summer and Black Forest is equipped to deal with those harsh seasons. There wasn't A/C but had a fan in the window sufficient enough to circulate the air in the room. Don't expect a 5 star room, it gets the job done. My only requiremen... Read more

BEWARE: At the front desk they offer a 10% discount if you leave a positive review, so unfortunately I learned the hard way that you can't really trust what the good reviews say. The woman who checked us in was very nice, though. When I walked in to our room, it was like I'd traveled back in time to 1977. That brown plaid accent chair...that chipped orange linoleum countertop... There was an old CRT television perched high on the wall with a huge mess of cables hanging down, and a couch that lo... We have stayed here several times and LOVE it! We havecstayed in several of the different cabins. This is the chalet we had for us and our 2 adult children. It was like a mini apartment! We LOVED the sky lights and French doors that open onto a small deck. Our wood burning fireplaces was so nice! These eclectic cabins are so fun with Jacuzzis and fireplaces in many of them, as well as several with full kitchens and patios with a BBQ. Katrina and Rita are AWESOME! Very accommodating and friend... Read more

My husband and I went to the Oktoberfest in Big Bear and spent 2 nights at the lodge. Our room was big and the bed comfortable. The reception staff was very friendly. We had an ensuite spa which was great, I didnt like the fact of stepping onto carpet when leaving the spa though. We didnt have any bath mats in the room so had to use towels when exiting the spa (same for the shower but at least the bathroom doesn't have carpet). I am sure we would have gotten some if we had asked at reception. Al... Read more

Stayed in the Black Forest Lodge for one night in September 2016. Found one vacant room left on Booking.com and booked it on a whim. This lodge exudes a Bavarian-German feel and is a very cozy and quaint lodge for a one night stay or weekend getaway! I stayed in Lida's Haus which offered a private and pleasant garden view. The room was spacious for 2 people and could have easily fit a few more guests [on inflatable mattresses]. The room was comfortable enough for one night, although the carpets ... Read more

This totally looks like something out of the Black Forest in Germany. It has great atmosphere. It is very minimalistic. No add-ons, which is great if you just want a place to sleep and keep your stuff. There is a TV and good Internet, so that is helpful, but the fireplace is gas and a little weird. The beds are rock hard, so if you like that type of bed, great, but it is not my type of bed and I found it tough to sleep. Otherwise, nice place. The hotel is in the heart of the town, so you can get... Read more

The only thing cute abut my room was the fire place. The price was good and you get what you pay for. It had pool, not heated. Free Wifi-ok., The walls are paper thin-I could hear my neighbor snoring.

Lovely location very friendly welcome and good value. Room done out in Bavarian style and comfortable bed. We stayed one night on our car tour, an easy drive from LA but we hit a lot of traffic coming Friday afternoon.

We arrived at big bear last September 24 all the way from the Philippines and stayed overnight. The rooms were spacious and clean. The bathroom while spartan, served its purpose. Rita, the owner was a gracious host and very accommodating. We will definitely stay there again on our next visit.
