The Catalina Canyon Resort & Spa is undergoing major transformation. Arriving to our hotel there are no major signs letting you know you arrived at Catalina Canyon. In fact I missed it while driving my golf cart and had to circle back after being told it was there. I missed the front desk area and walked way over to the pool before finding the front desk. The front desk had a sign that stated it was becoming a Holiday Inn. The people who were at front desk do not wear any uniforms or clothing t... Read more

Excellent place for a variety of activities which include a desert garden, unique boutiques, water activities such as parasailing, snorkeling, swimming, Islanders are very friendly and food is excellent. NO cars allowed so town trolley is perfect and golf carts are available to rent.

We stood in the King Spa rooms and it was way worth the price. I really enjoyed my stay here. The staff was friendly and the hotel was only a 15 minute walk from all of the shops in the area. If you choose not to walk, there is a shuttle. The room and the bathroom was very clean and spacious. Our ceilings are insanely high. We have a cute balcony that overlooks the pool. The pool was too cold to go in, but they have a decent jacuzzi. The bed was soooo soft. I'd definitely come back here the next... Read more

This is a clean well maintained place. we did not realize it was so far from the small town, so had to take a taxi to and from activities, which was really our only complaint. this is a nice place overall. staff is friendly and helpful and they did offer us a free shuttle to the property.

This is a long overdue review from my experience last year at this place. The keys never work, and the front desk would not grant you access to your room even though your name is written on the confirmation letter. Or even if your credit card is on file, they do not grant you access either. Oh! And they do not follow you upstairs to open your room either when you want to show that the room actually belongs to you. So to be honest I don't know how they can grant you access to the room you clear... Read more

The WiFi is flakey. Doors don't fit in to jambs right. There are lights that need to be replaced in the bathroom. Worst of all at the moment, the coffee machine machine in the room is broken and I have no coffee. Guy at the front desk won't make it happen in a way that will make it happen.

Pros- Away from the noise of Avalon but still close enough to enjoy the town. Nicely appointed rooms especially for the price in relation to other hotels. Clean, good service for the most part. Cons- Weekday shuttle service was great on Sunday but sparse on Monday and Tuesday. We had to take a very expensive taxi at 9 PM on Monday night. Not a bad walk down but a hike up if you are going to and from the hotel. Really need a place with real coffee every day of the week (restaurant only open on we... Read more

Do NOT stay here if you need internet connectivity. Do NOT believe their claims that they have WiFi. They do, but it is totally unusable. Also data cell service was, for me, unusable at this location. I have T -Mobile. Not sure if other carriers are any better at that location. Otherwise, the hotel is ok, but not great. Shuttle service was quite good though.

While this hotel is family friendly and don't seem to mind how many people stay in a room it lacks glamour or good restaurant open for all meals on all days. The pool area is small with only about 10 lounge chairs at the pool. It seems the hotel is renovating so maybe better in store. If you just want somewhere to sleep this is the place. The hotel offers free shuttle service to town all day and up to 945p.

Its an ok resort, people are nice however its pet friendly and my neighbors dogs barked for 3 hours straight, I complained but they keeped barking :(... It is clean, far from town shuttle service was good never waited more than 15 min. Drivers super nice. The only reason I would not stay again was because the dogs keeped me and my kids up.

This hotel is more spacious than most on Catalina. The rooms were clean and I enjoyed how each room has a balcony. Also, free direct shuttle from pier to hotel as well as daily shuttle to get downtown and back. Would stay there again.

The room was clean and updated. Only a few issues, housekeeping didn't have the room stocked w clean towels upon arrival and there's no laundry facility on site, so I had to lug my dirty clothes into town to wash them. The third issue I had was waking up to a bathroom full of ants the next morning. I let the front desk know before I left to go into town. They said it was ant season and another room also had the same problem but that they would spray while I was gone. I came back a few hours late... Read more

We stayed here for the price as well as on site spa and restaurant. First the good: 1. Most of the drivers for the free shuttle were great ( one always seemed to be to busy or going on a break every time we came across him. This was at the hotel as well as returning to the hotel from town) 2. The staff that was nice at the restaurant were nice when we saw them in other rolls (our waitress was the front desk the following day) 3. The restaurant on site is awesome! Accommodating a family of five can sometimes be a hassle, but not this resort. The hotel is not located by the water, however it is minutes away by the resort shuttles or you could brave the walk. The registration personnel was very accommodating and friendly, especially when we requested a crib and extra towels. My children enjoyed the pool area. The restaurant staff was awesome!! Not to mentioned this is a pet friendly place. We don't have any pets, only kids!! Great experience!!

This was the first time my family and I stayed at the resort. Staff is nice, the grounds is nice, our room nice and clean and spacious for a family of four. Free shuttle service. There's a pool clean area. Would definitely return to this resort.

Not a good hotel and definitely not a 3-star hotel. My room was dirty, full of ants everywhere. The bed sheets were not clean. The whole building is old. The staff are not very good either. Don't recommend it at all, especially with these high rates.

I work in hospitality for a major hotel in Las Vegas (I know it's a different experience) but it shouldn't be THIS much different, the service was below expectations (and I was just expecting the basic requirements). We visited for 3 days, 2 nights for my sister and I's birthday. From the beginning it was bad and just got worse. Waited 30 minutes for the shuttle to pick us up, we were told they picked up every 15 minutes; after 30 minutes, called the hotel, they informed us they were sending som... Read more

This 110 minute treatment is sublime! Michael Canellis is a very skilled massage therapist who has a very thorough and intuitive technique. The entire experience is so relaxing, from laying on warm sand, to the feel of the 'waves' as the table is inverted, to the various luxurious body treatments. I highly recommend this massage and Michael!!

Catalina Island was our destination for a girl getaway, my visit to my daughter included visiting the island with a total of 4 individuals. We arrived off the ferry and found the Resort shuttle right there to bring us to our hotel, the shuttle comes down when guests are anticipated. The shuttle runs often and will take you down to town and back up to the hotel for many hours of the day. The room was good, not especially large but the 4 us managed, we had a fridge, coffee maker and microwave. ... Read more

This hotel was a very dirty disgusting place to stay. The rooms were not clean and were ant infested. There are 2 reasons ants come in, food and water. The room appeared to be clean at first glance. But Wondering why the ants were on the beds we looked underneath the mattresses and found food particles and other disgusting unidentifiable stuff. We tried to switch to a new room but that room had ants also. This hotel is also located .6 miles from the Main Street, where all the shops, restra... Read more

I am writing this complaint due to our disappointing experience at Catalina Canyon Resort from the 19th to the 22nd of July. When we arrived on the 19th and checked into our room around 6 pm we were shocked to see a couple ants crawling in the bathroom. Our family went down to town for dinner and when we got back we saw there were even more ants than we originally imagined. They were crawling on the bed, the walls, and still remained in the bathroom. My husband went to the main desk to see what ... Read more

We made a last minute decision to visit Avalon on Catalina Island and needed to book a room. The only affordable availability was at the Catalina Canyon Resort and Spa located about 1/2 mile inland from the ocean. We arrived in Avalon on the Catalina Express boat from Dana Point, taking about an hour and a half. We arrived around 11:30 am and stashed our bags at the dockside storage facility and walked around Avalon a bit. The hotel has its own shuttle van albeit a bit small. We got to the hotel... Read more

Hotel is clean and staff is Great!!! Room is modern new remodel ! Hotel ground look as though they need major modern update though. I would come back if the price is right. Room 401 I had is best for my needs. End unit, top floor, Raised ceiling. View from private balcony. Was a good deal for that room.

A very small room out dated. Broken safe and it took forever for them to get the room ready. Stains on the comforters. Dirty shower. The Restaurant is closed Tuesday and Wednesday. The every 15 minutes shuttle took 45 to pick us up. The decor looks like it's from the 50s!

There's a very steep incline down to the hotels reception area, the lobby is very tropical, airy and has a snack area w/ drinks and healthy snacks. The rooms were spacious and adequate. The ground were gorgeous, the pool was a very nice size and held temp well. The place is pretty remote although the setting is peaceful. The grounds are not for anyone with a mobility problem. Lots of stairs and sloped walkways. There's a shuttle that makes things bearable but barely. We asked to use the hot tub and were told SURE. We got suited up navigated our way there only to find it was out of service and had been for some time. Weirdly the restaurant over looks the pool so if you even a little self conscious it's unnerving. There are lots of improvements going on ... Read more

Its up on the hill just past the golf course. It's about a 8 minute walk to downtown. Loved the rooms which can be hotel like or bungalow like. We stayed in the bungalows. They provide a free shuttle from the pier and both to and from downtown. The entire staff was wonderful. Loved our patio and the views from the restaurant on premise were excellent. We booked for my friends birthday, and after reading reviews on Trip Advisor I was hesitant to book here. I knew it was going through renovations but was leery of it being sub-standard. Well, imagine my surprise when it turned out to be the best decision I had made. It started with Opelia, the front desk (manager?) who gave us the most wonderful room, overlooking the ocean, and the pool. It was #301. She was such a sweetheart, and just as kind as could be. We had a wonderful time thanks to Ophelia, who gave us a wonderful room. The front desk couldn't have been more helpful. The shuttle was always there for us, and the food at the restaurant was beyond belief. Chef Greg came out to meet us, and I even bought his own seasoning, which was sold in the restaurant. His fried chicken was to die for. I loved our two days away. Best deal on the Island

This was a horrible experience from check in (which took 45 minutes) to the Manager talking on the phone, with a friend in town, rather than hear concerns of a guest of the hotel (another 25 minutes then I left). The front desk help was either nonexistent except Ruben who actually tried to help. The refrigerator leaked, no maid service till we asked - then we were told that we shouldn't put out the door hanger (do not disturb)-which we did never did. I could write at least two pages on how bad... Read more
