"upon arriveing at this facility we discovered there was no air conditioning what so ever, then we discovered that there was no running water to the rooms,we were told that they were working on the bldg.we informed them that we would need a larger room,and we were told we could 'upgrade'for an additional $150 per night,the larger suite they showed us was clean looking but musty and dated,and there was no way we would upgrade?!,then on the elevator we spoke to an elderly woman that was staying there she said 'there hasn't been any water on all day long,also there was no evidence of any work crews or even a single plumber on the property. This property has a wonderful location,but unless somebody invests some serious revenue into it,it shouldn't be open for business! they refused to agree to a refund,the manager would not even come to the lobby and speak to us! we stayed at the comfort inn san diego and had a great time anyway!This facility owes my son aver $600.00 and unless they are simply scam artists in need of prosicution,they should do the right thing and issue a total refund! DO NOT BOOK THIS PLACE! LOOKS ARE DECIEVEING!"

"I have to say that you cannot beat the location. On the other hand, the room that was issued to my wife an I was overwhelmingly tiny. I was not expecting this at all. Another issue was the noise from the other guests was quite load. There was a wedding party staying at the hotel. Overall, the experience was just OK."

"small but well appointed rooms. Great location right across LaJolla beach but with that said, it also gets that smelly, fishy breeze from the sea lions hanging around the beach. There was no A/C in our room so I opened the windows at night but ended up shutting them because it was too noisy outside. The fishy smell at night wasn't as bad, though."

"The review is titled La Jolla Rocks as a reflection of this property, the area, and the cove with rocks covered with sea lions and seals. First, the property. I am a middle-aged woman travelling (for the first time in many decades) with two of my brothers to visit another brother in San Diego. We were looking for a property that would keep us together ... but not TOO close together. My experience has been that happy family trips are more certain with some space! And space we had at La Jolla Cover Suites. Making reservations from 3000 miles away, one never knows what you might be walking into -- especially as the price was so incredible (color me skeptical). So after booking, I contacted the hotel and spoke with a woman. she was a joy to work with - she listened to my story and placed us in a two bedroom, ocean-view suite. Two large bedrooms with two baths; kitchen; living room; dining area and deck.

The property is not new. It is not a Hyatt or a Marriott or a Hilton. But if you are looking for a comfortable, clean, well laid-out property that is staffed with incredibly considerate folks and has incredible views and close (walking) proximity to fabulous restaurants and interesting shops, run, do not walk, to make reservations of La Jolla Cover Suites.

The staff went out of there way to be helpful - from directions to restaurant recommendations to cleaning services ... all outstanding.

Oh .... one thing ... the rocks. The cove has become the sun and swim area for a lot of marine creatures. Sea lions by the dozen cover the rocks in the cove. Watching them play and sing to each other is magical. But with the magic comes and interesting, very fishy, smell. It did not hamper our visit in any way but we were in the area of this property furthest from the cove. Just something to consider when booking.

All-in-all, a great time. I would definistely recommend this property.

"You pay for one thing, the view. Hotel is old and you can hear people in the room next, above and below you. Lights in halls shine through bedroom window and make complete darkness impossible. (How about some night blinds????) Service was very helpful and friendly. Overall a positive experience and the cost is expected when staying in one of the most beautiful and expensive places in the country."

"What can I say? LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION!!! Was upgraded to a 1 BR suite to Deluxe with full kitchen, dinning and living area with breathtaking, panoramic, large private balcony views of the Pacific and area. Beautiful rooms that are clean and the property is well manicured. We had the best hostess and saw to it our every need was taken care of! This area is very expensive, so we felt this hotel was a good buy for our travel dollars. We will be back!!!"

"old old old hotel - view is priceless, but goodness - plenty of free parking around the hotel (3 hrs from 8am-6pm) so skip the $20 parking fee. 5th floor brkfst is a great touch, except the brkfast is bread, bagle, and more bread with butter and cheese, that's it - yup, after first day we went elsewhere and paid $10 to get something beside bread. lobby, rooms, halways all smell like mold and mildew, and we paid over $330 for two mid week night with 50% off discount with most of the rooms being empty. you can do better."

"The room was tiny with a bathroom the size you would find in a motor home. Not a full sized sink. There was a door locked which I assume was another room. You could hear talking from the other room. I believe the larger bedrooms were separated into 2 tiny rooms. I asked for a different room, but could only get another for a $70 increase. I declined. But I will not stay there again. The description of the room is deceiving to what you actually get. It was not worth the price.
Also, the cleaning staff or someone took my opened bottle of wine. I was comped with one night of free parking. What is that anyway!!!! Where you have to pay for parking in the lot that you are staying????"

"Location can't be beat. EXTRA $20 overnight parking FEE a must, and a time saver. Property is old and in need of a make over. Rooms are antiquated, but clean. Staff is friendly but reserved. Location is everything. Ocean facing rooms have outstanding views.
Most bedroom suites only offer a single queen size bed, and a pull out sofa.
At the right price is an OK stay if you look past the cosmetics and the smells eminating from the ocean (SEAL BEACH NEAR BY). Breakfast is just OK if protein is not a must have."

"My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights. We upgraded to a room with a kitchen and full ocean view. Loved every minute. The sunset was beautiful from the balcony, as well as sitting out on the setee looking at the ocean and listening to the seals. It is well worth the money to add the kitchen, and cook a few meals to save money for the happy hour at he Crab Catcher. We walked the path along the sea the last morning, and enjoyed sitting by the pool catching some rays. The view from the breakfast deck was great, the complementary food was basic but adequate. Have stayed in other hotels in the area and this one is the best for the ambiance, comfort, value and views."

"The decor was outdated and space limited but everything was clean and maintained except the hot tub was not working but all of this was compensated for but the awesome view and location and the competent and friendly staff."
