Loud, No amenities, way over priced! There are better Hotels/Motels in the area with the hotel amenities one would expect. Motel 6 is even better than this place. There's hardly any parking. People going to the bar in the hotel can take up the parking for people staying over, so if you are late checking in, then you won't get a parking spot and you have to go find one, if you're lucky!

All of the times that my wife and I have traveled to or through Flagstaff, we have always stayed at other places. I've always wanted to stay at The Monte Vista or the nearby Hotel Weatherford, however. So during a recent trip up to Lake Powell, I booked us a room at the Monte Vista. I've stayed at some wonderful historic hotels, including the Jerome Grand Hotel in Jerome and the Hotel St. Michael and the Hassayampa Inn in Prescott. While nicely appointed, the Hotel Monte Vista just didn't st... Read more

My wife and I had something going on in Sedona last Saturday morning. We chose to stay in Flagstaff because we never had and it was close to Sedona. We like the more classic hotels then the more popular chain hotels. We had read a lot of reviews and weighed the good and bad and decided we wanted to try this hotel. It was a very nice stay. It is located in the heart of the Historic Downtown which is about three blocks by three blocks. There is a history with this hotel involving ghosts and n... Read more

This my favorite hotel in Flagstaff! Location location location for dining and going bar hopping. The rooms are clean and very different from one another. The beds are always extremely comfortable! I love looking out the room windows and people watching. This is a real flagstaff gem!

We love going to our favorite, haunted hotel. And yes I have experience some kind of a supernatural event, however it was only in my last visit after years of no such encounters. I felt a light squeezing of my throat during my sleep that woke me. This however did prove to me that at least this ghost was extremely weak and a ghost of his former brutal self. We go every fall to view the fall colors and go to the Orpheum. We will never go anywhere else in our favorite mountain town.

This place is located in the middle of the historic downtown, which is perfect since you can just walk down street for dinner, and go bar hopping, if you'd like. Parking lot is small, it is true, but I haven't had problem finding a spot. I stayed in two different rooms on my trip up north and on the way back. The rooms were kept old-fashioned, which is kind of cool. They are clean and have very comfortable beds. Note that some have no air conditioning, fan only, and some have shared bathrooms. ... Located in the center of downtown Flagstaff, this is a historic and cool hotel to enjoy. Near all the restaurant and bars, I really recommend it. This was our 3 time in Flagstaff, but this time we can get reservations in this hotel. we drop our car in the parking free parking for the guest, we arrived late afternoon, and stayed for one night. We had a really lovely room, with views over the street and the mountains, recently renovated, super comfortable, small bath, but nice shower, big room, ve... Read more

I absolutely love this hotel. So charming and so much history. It fits perfectly with the flagstaff vibe. Two bars in the hotel and a coffee shop. Walking distance to tons of bars and restaurants. Wouldn't stay at any other hotel next time I visit the area.

I get this is a very eclectic and historic hotel, but that's really no excuse for bad service. I wasn't enamored by the lack of AC and basic creature comforts found in most budget motels, but when it came to housekeeping...this was ridiculous. I left my room and the "housekeeper" was in the hallway. I smiled at her and told her my room was all hers. She asked me, "will you be needing fresh towels?", to which I replied no, as I am not one to waste water on laundry that is unnecessary for a 2 nig... Read more

Due to a travel agent mistake we were in Flagstaff without a hotel and it was just incredibly fortunate that we saw this hotel. It is really old-fashioned and quaint and has an amazing atmosphere. There is a great bar which is buzzing the whole time and lots of things to do nearby. Staff could not be more helpful. Highly recommended

We had a great stay at the Hotel Monte Vista. Clara at the front desk and Steve Kaufman were very friendly. We stayed at the Monte Vista on an excessively hot weekend with record heat, but were comfortably cool in our room. Definitely stay on the 4th floor if want a quiet room. The best part is the price - very reasonable rates,

Nice historical building with a lovely bar, but don't stay here! We stayed in, what they called the "presidential suite" which was awful. There were two small, old, rundown rooms that shared a small bathroom. The bed was hard, the pillow was this huge sponge thing and the noise all night in the street from the drunks kept me up all night. There are two many other great choices in Flagstaff for a much better price! This place is way overpriced for the dump room you get. Also....the girl at the fr... Read more

When I booked this hotel, I asked about parking. I was told they had a small lot and there was on street parking. When we got there, the tiny lot for the hotel also served the bar and it was full. I called again and asked about parking as I was cruising around. The girl told me not to park in the next door bank lot or they would have me towed. She said to just park on the street. What she did not say is that if I found a place on the street within a couple of blocks of the hotel, I should rush... Read more

My husband and I stayed one night at The Hotel Monte Vista. Our experience was a good one and I was happily surprised that there was an AC unit in our room (307, Debbie Reynolds)! The two bars downstairs and downtown location made for the perfect spot for us. Parking was a bit of a challenge so once we found a spot, we made sure not to move the car again until we checked out. Although a few simple updates could greatly improve the room, our overall experience was positive. Just remember, this is... Read more

We stayed in the Bon Jovi Room which was funny being I am from NJ- Cool old style room...Not much to do in Flagstaff tho....Stopped here from GC on way to Sedona...Like I said very cool historic Hotel. Comfortable Beds...Had no problem sleeping. Heard some stories of it being haunted but no spooks that night.

This was my third stay at the Monte Vista over the course of 15 years. I love it most for its location in the heart of walkable downtown Flagstaff. It's 100 years old (but updated) with a rich and varied history apropos of a small western city. The rooms are all named after famous people who stayed there. We had the Barbara Stanwyck room this time -- very nice. Rooms vary in size, airflow, shower water pressure, level of noise. If you are bothered by train whistles, this might not be your place ... The hotel is great for things in the downtown Flag area...super easy walking distance to local bars and restaurants. We stayed in room 407 and knew it overlooked the street - ie Monte V lounge. If noise bothers you...pick another room/side. We loved hearing the crowds below! We liked to room...but, WOW...the shower was tiny...that is really the only complaint. It became comical... Parking can be challenging, as well. Let's just say, you may be moving your car a few times before you are able t... Read more

We love the location of this place and it's old timey charm. Each room is different and vastly differs from the next. The cocktail lounge, bar and coffeehouse located on site are always fun with great service and the "hauntings" always add a little extra excitement. We have yet to have an air conditioning unit that works efficiently and the bathroom floors are usually poorly cleaned with hair and dirt in the corners (which you notice as the bathrooms are so small). Fun decor and very helpful sta... Read more

Loved this hotel. Even though hotel was built in the 1920's it was very comfortable and clean. I stayed in the Anthony Hopkins suite with 1 queen bed and private bathroom. Price was reasonable for a weekend in summer. My bed was very comfortable and I had a small TV and small bathroom with shower. The location is great and I could walk to many bars and restaurants. They have a small parking lot east of the hotel which was full but we parked in the parking garage just past the hotel on the left... Read more

The Hotel Monte Vista is a 'must stay' if in Flagstaff. Built in the 1920s, the hotel has plenty of character and stories (true or otherwise) about it. It allegedly had a 'speakeasy' in the basement during prohibition and several of the rooms have ghostly visitations. The rooms are all individually decorated and are named for the celebrity who stayed there. They are clean and comfortable while retaining their charm. The hotel has a great front bar area which gets busy at night and is a great pl... Read more

It is not a fancy hotel but it's really charming. Simple in its structure and services, will make you feel part of the route66 history. The room we had was nice and clean and with some charm. I'd not recommend the breakfast in the hotel, just go out, have a nice walk and enter one of the nice places around. I would return here.

We were thrilled to get parking right by the hotel in their little parking lot next to the bar. Check in was uncomplicated and I liked that we were given detergent and fabric softener when I said we needed to do laundry. The reason for 3 stars is we were in the governors suite (as the room was called) which had a shared bathroom. The shared bathroom isn't the issue; the toilet and shower were close to our room, but the basin was located down the hall quite far away in the other shared bathroom. ... Read more

Stumbled on to Hotel Monte Vista on a road trip with my girlfriend more or less by accident as we didn't even really have a plan to necessarily stay in Flagstaff. The hotel itself is relatively nice. Very retro and true to its origins. The front desk girl was a little short and borderline rude but we checked in quickly and efficiently. The lobby bar was buzzing and seemed like the place to be. We later found out it was $2 beer night (Tuesday) so it was filled with local college kids and a few ho... Read more

OK, so the room wasn't that great, It was clean, however. The carpet in the public hallway and stairwell was dirty and it made us a little concerned until we saw the room. The front desk staff person was very nice and very helpful. We stayed in the Jane Russell Room which was pretty cool as we can actually name some of her movies. The thing about this hotel is the location. You can walk to almost everything which is important when you are checking out all of the craft beer pubs in the old... Read more

I stayed a couple of nights at the Monte Vista, I was a bit non-plussed about the named rooms. I was in the one dedicated to Air Supply and I thought they put me in the Janitors Closet. It was fine though and on the 3rd floor so it wasn't noisy. The hotel is historical and I did have a couple of drinks in the bar which was quiet as it was a Sunday. I actually waited to be served at the bar for around 10 minutes as the bar maid was chatting to her friends. She then served 2 single guys who arriv... Read more

We stayed at the Hotel Monte Vista for 2 nights as we explored the Grand Canyon. It was fun to stay at a place that had a lot of character and avoid the typical hotel chains. We stayed in the Debbie Reynolds room on the 3rd floor and had a king bed and our own bathroom with a shower. The room was very quaint and the bed was comfortable. I was a little disappointed with the cleanliness and our bed was made the next day and got fresh towels but that was about it. Nothing was cleaned in the bathroo... Read more

Come on, this is not a Four Seasons/Ritz kinda place. This is a funky, sorta restored, rustic old hotel in the old downtown area of Flagstaff. It is a place to enjoy history - a true throwback to old West & mountain days, convenient to everything fun in dining, clubs, music, etc. it's noisy because there's a plethora of people having fun. We stayed at the Monte Vista for two nights and greatly enjoyed our stay. The history of the hotel and the other surrounding buildings was fascinating. There are a ton of great local eateries and bars all within walking distance. Parking is a little tight, but what else would you expect in a busy area. All the staff we encountered were super friendly and helpful. Flagstaff is such a unique city with a lot of history and this hotel is a great example of that.

Great hotel if you're on a road trip Plenty of character and in the historic town centre. The rooms are a bit dark and not too spacious. no wardrobe to hang your cloths but heyho we're on a road trip and looking for laid back places to stay and this hits the spot full on. The bar is busy all day and best internet connection is in the lobby and bar area free parking is provided next to the hotel good restaurants are only a short walk away
