This is a beautiful downtown hotel, so close you can walk to all the historic sights in Birmingham. The room was clean and well furnished. What I liked best about this hotel is it was decorated with historic photographs of Birmingham, giving you a peek into the past of the city we were in and a sense of place. So many hotels have "hotel" art, which feels so alienating. The parking lot attendants were great with providing directions and tips on places to eat. As for breakfast, like with many Ame... Stayed at this beautiful downtown hotel for my son's wedding weekend. Booked a block of rooms for our family and friends and a Suite for us to have room to entertain all of them. Perfect setup! This historic hotel is clean, well appointed and run with a level of hospitality and service reminiscent of a bygone era. We got to visit this beautiful historic hotel the night of our wedding. Our room was the wonderful Kelow Jeff fireplace suite. 3 sets of antique French doors. One set was in the bedroom along with the king size bed, and the other two were in the living room area. The French doors lead out to a private patio. This landmark is a MUST visit, and MUST stay. It also didn't hurt that pizza still delivered until 2am in the area. The pizza went well with our fluffy robes, after a nice warm bubble bath. ... Read more

After a disappointing stay at a different Hampton Inn & Suites, I must say that the marketing staff for Hampton / Hilton went above and beyond to make it up to us. They went out of their way to accomodate us at The Tutwiler. A beautiful, friendly, excellent staffed, historical hotel in downtown B'ham. Thanks again to Mr. Berger & Mr. Blackwell for your hospitality and your efforts. It is greatly appreciated.

We took a leisurely break on our drive back from Florida and decided to stay at The Tut. The hotel is beautiful and very well maintained to be 101 years old. It is in a great part of downtown Birmingham. It has some wonderful era pictures from the early years of the property. The breakfast provided is on the 8th floor and has wonderful views and tasty eats. My only negative that is not well represented is the parking. It is $24 to valet overnight. This is a downtown hotel we chose because we had stayed previously. It is a beautifully restored historic building. The furnishings are appropriate to the historic character and the staff is very friendly and helpful. When we checked out the valet brought our car to the front door. There is no pool. They offer YMCA privileges and you can walk around the block to use the pool at the Y. No parking, not close at least. You have to park at a 2 hour max meter, pay $24 a night for valet, or park 3 blocks away at the nearest garage for $3 each time you go out. That wouldn't have been so bad if there weren't so many drunks and homeless in those 3 blocks. I wasn't going to walk that with my bags, bpurse, and 3 kids. Great beds and good breakfast though. So nice to find such a beautiful and historic property in the Hampton family. Stayed during the Sidewalk Film festival using points and cash for an extremely inexpensive but upscale stay. Our room was upgraded to a suite which was very clean, spacious, full of natural light. The included breakfast on the 8th floor is standard fare but the dining room is clean and welcoming with very nice ladies who help the guests in any way they can. We returned for a second stay at the quaint Tutwiler hotel in very downtown Birmingham. Centrally located to reception venue, we were able to walk a few daytime blocks to local sports bars and see afternoon college football, back in time for an Uber ride to the church. We hung out both days also in the Century Bar in the hotel and had impeccable service. I cannot brag on our bellman/valet who politely and protectively parked our new vehicle. This historic hotel was beautiful and well kept. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room had a slightly odd layout (long skinny bathroom area), but not inconvenient. Hampton has updated the decor in many of their hotels including this one. The room and bathroom are very tasteful and pleasing to the eye, but in going for minimalism, they seem to have left out places to hang your towels.

This is a very nice hotel with spacious rooms. However, parking is not free as it is at virtually every other Hampton property where we have stayed. The cost of valet parking was unreasonable ($26+). The hotel staff was very helpful, but the charge for valet parking and the lack of anything other than street parking as an alternative made this a very frustrating experience. Hampton Inns should always provide at least some free parking on their property for those who wish to park themselves.
