aloft really is a little sibling to the W brand, competing with the likes of Fairfield Inn, Hyatt Place, etc but trying to do so in a pseudo hipster kind of way. Location is great - nestled just down the street from a number of new eateries and coffee shops so there's plenty to do. Free parking doesn't hurt either. All aloft properties just seem to be trying too hard to be hip where it doesn't matter (e.g. obnoxious clashing design schemes and layouts in public areas and rooms) but not practic... Read more

Stayed here 2 night on business. Great hotel. Nice and clean. The room was comfy and I have no complaints. The hotel design is unique and interesting which sets it apart from other places. I would definitely recommend this place.

I've stayed at a couple other Aloft properties and this is exactly in that mold. Minimalist in execution, but very comfortable. Several good restaurants and shopping in walking distance. Without exception, the staff was overtly friendly and helpful. This isn't over the top luxury, but that's not it's mission. We were there for a wedding weekend and it's perfect for that kind of event. Good wifi.

When I stayed here last time, I commented that the people made the place; everyone who works here is one-notch nicer than you might expect hotel staff to be. That continues to be true. I also noted that the scuffed up hallways made the place look remarkably dingy. Surprise! Even as I stayed here, they were repapering the halls. So why the average rating? There is still, from what I see, a lack of attention to important details. There was an impressive hole cut into the wall below the desk to ... Read more

I have stayed here several times when traveling across country and it has been great. This weekend we reserved 2rooms for 5 girls weekend. The initial check-in and customer service seemed great on Friday afternoon . This declined over the rest of the weekend. Overall rooms are fine, but the phone in room didnt work nor did the safe. When I called via cell to front desk for more coffee,I was told by the operator she was the only one at the front desk and couldn't leave. She said housekeeping wa... Read more

This is our second stay at an Aloft. Our first was NOLA. And for the second time we were thoroughly pleased. The front desk person was nice and helpful. Check in was quick. We had a small dog and there is a nice area of grass across the street. Great area of town. Very quiet with restaurants. Room was clean and well appointed. Common areas were nice as well. This will definitely be our new go-to hotel! Plan to stay at another in jersey next week!

A Loft is a reasonably priced modern minimalist hotel chain and although they all have a similar appearance not all of them are well run or in the best area of town! Homewood is a nice suburban area of Birmingham and has a nice youthful vibe! This hotel had a much better staff than one we stayed at a couple of weeks before and there is a great restaurant attached by a walk way (for another review) called Michael's. The room was the same as other aLofts but the hotel location and staff made this ... Read more

Traveled from out-of-town and secured multiple rooms (~8 room) for guest. Hotel located within 3 miles of wedding venue (Donnelly House). Everyone enjoyed their stay and the accommodations. Hotel has a nice open lobby where people good gather/hang out before events. Bar area adjacent to lobby/common area which allowed for central gathering area after hours also including a pool table for entertainment. I would highly recommend.

We were really looking forward to this stay and had specifically picked this quaint area of Birmingham for its safety and restaurants. When we arrived, we were informed our room was one of 3 leaking and they couldn't accommodate us and reimbursed us for our room and they paid for a room in downtown (where we didn't want to be!) at Sheraton. Though we got free lodging, we had looked forward to the Aloft hotel and area. We weren't suspicious until Sheraton staff told us that Aloft sends their p... Read more

I'm typically a Marriott guy but the Marriott properties in the area are a big let down. The hotel is pretty new and stylish. It feels a little like a "Diet W" because of the funky decor. If you don't get there early enough you will probably have a hard town finding the roof of the parking deck. The beds are a little too firm for me and I wish there was a chair (other than the desk chair). There is a bench but usually that is what I sit my suitcase on. Great location though right next to d... Read more

I booked this hotel because as a budget, DIY bride I needed to be close to my wedding venue the day of my wedding. I needed to be close because I had to have time to completely decorate my venue and still have time to get ready and check out by 4pm. I was told, upon my first inquiry, that I would have no problems because many wedding parties have stayed/gotten ready there and it worked out fine for them. I was sold on this confidence. In my email confirmation, there is an early check in time req... Read more

We had just stayed at an aloft hotel in Texas the night before so we booked this space on our trip across country. The hotel is pet friendly and advertises dog beds, bowls, and treats, but we got nothing. The hotel is very quiet which prevents dogs from barking inside rooms! The hotel itself is great, but the location isn't great for dogs. Since it is squished into a city block there is no real grass space to encourage pets to use the bathroom. I noticed a spot behind the hotel next to an apartm... Read more

Folks at desk were very polite and professional. Did not try breakfast but saw people eating. Seems like a lively bar in the evening. Location is handy. Great coffee shop down Street. Name is O'Henry's.

We stayed July 4th and had questions about places to eat and things to do. The front desk agent came outside with us and pointed out different places and told us about what they served. The lobby is very nice and the rooms were clean and fresh smelling. The shower was great! The indoor pool was not heated so we could not swim.

This place is modern industrial chic and very comfortable all at the same time. It has a nice little grab and go cafe in the lobby, but proximal to some excellent bars and restaurants. It's the perfect spot for a couples weekend away.

Hotel totally booked and the hvac system cannot cool my room. Front desk clerk offered to move me to an adjacent room. It was just as warm. The hvac design is flawed. Be aware during summer months. At least they agreed to charge me a full rate for staying in this 85 degree room.

I stay here often and for the most part am very happy. The hotel has been undergoing renovations and the rooms are much fresher. There is new bedding, furniture, and wallpaper in the rooms. I arrived with lots of luggage as I was on the road for an extended series of family events and business. After checking into my room, I found that both the television and phone was not working. Solved the phone issue but could not get the television to work. Called downstairs and was moved to a second room.... Read more

No real complaints, except that the night we stayed there a storm had taken out all electronics and telephone. It's a basic place, decorated in a modern, even industrial, style. Bed was more like one you would find in a European hotel--thinner than American mattresses and firm.
