Throughout the 50`s, 60`s, 70`s and 80`s Club Comanche was the social and business center of St. Croix. Many Crucians and visitors remember special times at the Comanche. Businessmen, professionals and politicians gathered daily at Club Comanche for fun and profit. Hollywood movie stars such as John Wayne, Maureen O`hara and Laurence Olivier made regular visits. Robert ``Oppie`` Oppenheimer, father of the atomic bomb, also spent long periods of time there.

Battered but not beaten by Hurricane Hugo in 1989, the Comanche hotel and restaurant languished. All 23 designed and furnished guest rooms, suites, and loft suites have been refurbished, refurnished, outfitted with safes, flat screen TVs, in-room internet access, fans and air conditioning. The Hollywood-style swimming pool, the first pool in the Virgin Islands and formerly filled with re-circulating harbor water pumped by the windmill, is converted to fresh water and re-plumbed to meet modern safety regulations. The entire hotel had a complete renovation in 2008 to assure guests a wonderful stay.
