Stunning rooms with great fridge extras fabulous bath included in the premium rooms with the biggest walk in double shower. You cannot fault the rooms with the individual wonderful decor. However for just under £500 for 2 nights I would have expected a better breakfast service although there was a good choice it was a buffet style for the hot food. Usually for this type of hotel cost comes with waitress served breakfast with a choice from a menu not you get what's on show. The tables are very c... Read more

From the moment we arrived at an unassuming entrance to be greeted by lovely warm hotel reception staff we were really impressed by this hotel. For a chain hotel, the place has great character and individuality that reflects York's wonderful personality. Our room was beautifully decorated and well thought-out. A great shower, lots of fresh crisp towels, a comfy bed and nice cozy lighting. We didn't get chance to eat there but had a nightcap at the bar which was really nice. A five minute walk th... I have just got back from a lovely, sunny weekend in York. We only booked the hotel a fortnight ago and to be honest with it being half term week and last minute we weren't expecting to get somewhere amazing. We liked the look of the photos of the rooms and so we booked. We parked in the hotel car park, which was a short walk to the hotel. Upon arrival we were warmly greeted and despite arriving st 10.30 we were allowed to drop our bags off and half check in. We were told to just ask for the k... Read more

I booked this hotel early in the year as we were going to see Beverley Knight in concert. I booked early to make sure I got a hotel room. The hotel in the main was great and found the breakfast lovely. However I paid £236.00 for what was meant to be a superior room. The room was nice but I wouldn't rate it as superior! Very very expensive for nothing extra..... I could of got 2 nights in London for that price.....way over priced. In addition they mixed my email address with another room which a... Read more

We had a single night here as we stopped to explore the city of York and what a good experience. The satnav found the hotel easily enough and we stopped to drop off the luggage (no off road parking or drop off so a quick park on the yellow lines was required!). The hotel has its own parking about a block away for £10 a night and this worked very well. This is a part of the Intercontinental Hotels Group (Holiday Inn, Crowne Plaza etc.) and was modern and well appointed. What we loved about the h... Read more

We got a wonderful welcome from the friendly staff. In the afternoon we could hear every bang and knock while housekeeping cleaned the room next door, but the night we stayed everybody came in quietly and we slept well. The bathroom space is small, but we appreciated the complimentary toiletries, and masses of fluffy towels. Overall the stay was excellent value, and the hotel is well placed within the walls in York.

Very friendly and efficient welcome at the front desk of this clean, modern hotel, which is close to the city centre. Well-equipped, if quite small, room with very comfortable beds and a good self-service breakfast. Unfortunately, as we arrived quite late, we ate in the restaurant attached, which only served variations of meatballs in different sauces - all pretty uninspiring. If we'd had a bit more time, we could have gone out and found one of the many (presumably) decent restaurants nearby.

This is a nice new boutique hotel in the IHG chain. It is unlike any of their other brands like Holiday Inn or Crown Plaza. It is fairly small with quite small but pleasantly decorated rooms. Not much space to put your clothes so fine for the weekend, but would be cramped for much longer. Bed was very comfortable, and shower excellent. The breakfast was very good. Ideal for exploring York and with some fab little bars and restaurants in Walmgate itself; it really was an ideal place to stay for a couple of nights in York.

Breakfast was lovely was an all you can eat buffet but of a hight standard which was serve until 11:00. Our room was lovely. The hotel is very quirky and boutiqey, so if that's your thing then I'm sure you'll love it. Our room however was absolutely tiny. My husband and I had to shimmie round each other just to move about - the smallest hotel room we have stayed in (frequent travelers). We often order room service on our first night if we arrive later on, but we couldn't do that here as there would literally have been nowhere for the 2 of us to sit and eat. Not sure if all Hotel Indigo's are like this one but if they are I'll be staying in more. Has what feels like it's own character, could easily be a boutique hotel rather than part of a chain. This was a nice little hotel. It was a little farther from the tourist area of town than I was hoping (1/2 mile or so), but everything else was wonderful. We had problems with the WiFi (free) when we first arrived, but the staff worked at it and got it working relatively quickly. (And once working, it was far better WiFi than any other hotel we stayed at.) The rooms were comfortable. The breakfast was reasonable although nothing special.

I love Indigo hotels. They are always furnished so nicely and the design is always so stylish in the rooms and around the hotel. The receptionists are very helpful and friendly. The location of the hotel is within walking distance of all the sites, restaurants and bars. The breakfast has a great selection of hot and cold foods. Highly recommended and a fair price for the quality of hotel you stay in.

I stayed here for 3 nights and would thoroughly recommend this hotel. From check-in to check-out the staff were delightful. My room was extremely clean and the bed was so comfortable. All snacks in the fridge, real milk and plenty of tea and coffee were restocked each day - even chocolate! The walk into town is about 5 -10 minutes and interesting. The Castle Museum is close too. Parking is in a public car park an easy minute walk from the hotel and I was easily able to check-in and park outside... Read more

Lovely boutique hotel in the centre of York, last time I had an upgraded room so was a tad disappointed that I only had a standard room, but this was actually very nice, just slightly smaller and no lounge. Food was great (particularly the pea and ham soup), breakfast was also good, staff are friendly - what's not to like. One small criticism- room 207 door doesn't close well, so rattles. And please...get a decent exercise bike in the gym.

What a quirky and lovely hotel! Was not sure about the hotel as it's far from the train station but it is so worth it. Has very quirky decor and it is a clean and very Morden hotel. Has a iPod docking station with speakers, tv, mini fridge, safe, speakers in the bathroom too so you can hear the tv in the shower! Loved this hotel, would definitely stay again

I was actually surprised how modern this hotel was. It was extremely clean and the room had all mod cons. Staff were very helpful and friendly. I would definitely stay again. Only gripes are parking is extra as is breakfast if you want it. Be 5 stars if these were included.

Just returned from a 2 nite stay, very good hotel inside the walls, 5 min walk to shambles, the street you walk down is nice, good rooms with freebies in fridge, a walk in shower, nice breakfast and pleasant friendly staff, only downside is expensive parking, but thats city centres, would return again.

I have stayed in a few Indigo's in different locations and none of them disappointed. This one was well up to standard. Great location on a street with great restaurant and cafe options on the short walk into the centre. Lovely room, great bed, fantastic shower, nice public areas and friendly staff. Excellent breakfast. Really impressed that at the weekend when it was "buffet style" they used small servers and replenished the food every 15 minutes meaning it was fresh for all. No need to look an... Read more

Modern hotel but with decor that gives it some character. Not the clinical style of most chain hotels. Rooms are reasonable size, kept very clean, well equipped with lamps and reading lights; a desk for work too. First class, spacious, shower with rain head and hot water abundant. Mini fridge in room and daily water and chocolate snacks a nice touch. Tea and coffee making facilities; clean kettle. I stayed two nights at this hotel at the end of October with my partner. I thought we had a room with a bath which I was looking forward to but it was a shower. It wasn't clear when booking that a room with a bath was superior. We tried to upgrade but apparently all 8 superior rooms were booked up. I found this strange as hotel didn't seem busy at all. The room itself was nice but not as big as the pictures portrayed. There is a large flat screen tv in the room with freeview. The bed is very ... Read more

We booked two rooms at the hotel and the staff were extremely helpful giving us adjacent rooms. The rooms are wonderfully decorated as is the hotel which makes for very nice stay. Our only disappointment was the noise from outside the hotel, we stayed on a Friday night and were woken several times by the noisy neighbors at all hours of the night and early morning. Breakfast in the restaurant in the morning was very good with breakfast cooked to order rather then a buffet, this was excellent.

2 nights in a very nice hotel in a good location of the city though not ultra central, only a short walk. Quite newly fitted out, cosy and well decorated rooms and a great bed. But the shining star was the service, from check in to check out, staff were very helpful, chatty and not overbearing. I over heard one of the restaurant supervisors giving an induction to a new breakfast service employee and his message was exemplary.... and the results show in all of the staff I met. Stayed here in a twin room with my mum overnight in November while visiting York and thoroughly enjoyed it. Hotel is smart, polite staff and good location. Breakfast was excellent but the only drawback on the whole stay was that the bacon appeared to be microwaved, but overall this is a minor point as we did feel it was excellent value.

I'm always cautious when saying anything negative about a hotel or restaurant so I will try to be as fair as possible in what I say. First of all, we had a lovely room, while quite small, the room was beautifully presented and impeccably clean. It all felt fresh and new with nothing looking dated or worn. The staff were very helpful and charming so overall the experience was a good one. What let it down for us however was a couple of details. Firstly, our room was cleaned after our first nig... I was very happy to stay at the Indigo. Superbly designed rooms. Lovely comfy bed and the whole place was run efficiently. I enjoyed the full Yorkshire breakfast and the hotel bar wasn't bad either. There's a car park ( £9.00 for 24 hours) round the corner from the hotel and you're very close to the historic centre of York. A short walk. Taxi cabs are plentiful also. The hotel is in a good location within a short walk of the city centre, but just far enough out of the main area that it's quiet at night. It appears clean and tidy everywhere with no obvious signs of wear and tear which was a welcome change to some hotels we've stayed in. Our room was small, and a bit cluttered with big furniture but again, was clean, tidy and adequate for a couple of nights stay.
