We had 3 rooms booked at this hotel as we had a wedding to attend in the area. We requested an early check in and received an email to say it was confirmed. When we arrived at the hotel, a woman called Claire was on the desk who told us we wasnt allowed an early check in and expected us to get ready for the wedding in the toilets! She was nothing but rude and obviously needs some guidance in her customer service skills. However, another worker called Rob came over and was nothing but helpful. He... Read more

Had a lovely stay here with 3 dogs. The reception staff were welcoming and we had a lovely twin room. Couldn't fault anything. Right by the city centre for walks to the canal. We didn't have dinner or breakfast as we fancied eating out so can't comment on that. The seating area outside was lovely too. I will return in the future.

on arrival Marie went out of her way to find us a quiet room {some rooms are close to the road } Our room was excellent nice size too. Breakfast was excellent help yourself buffet they even done hot pancakes {if you like that sort of thing} . Only down side is that there was no electric socket by the dressing table it was on the floor underneath difficult for plugging in hair straighteners etc apart from that perfect .

We booked the room via a well known website, but we learned it could be cheaper to book the room direct, and certainly cheaper by about half for the breakfast. The website charges £15.50 per person per breakfast, whereas the hotel itself charges £8, so our 2 night stay would have cost us £62 for breakfasts alone, had we paid in advance using the website. The room we were allocated was excellent. It was well kept and well furnished. The beds were great, giving us a good night's sleep. We ... Read more

Stayed on a Saturday night in June when the races were on and the hotel was really full. We had a lovely big room with a huge king size bed which, although a little soft for my liking was comfortable and clean. I had read some bad reviews of the hotel but couldn't fault the room, location, friendliness of staff and quietness. Would stay again and would ask for the same room (225).

Went for a function, a bit disappointed with first impression. Could do with tidy up, dog ends greet you in the carpark and other bits of tat and junk lie about. A little shabby inside too. Food was about average, most staff friendly although a receptionist was a little abrupt. I would not like a night there as it right next to a busy road. So it could be better but any port in a storm. Don't forget your car reg, as cameras are keen to send you a fine.

GOOD * Ended up in one the wonderfully spacious suites tucked away in the far corner, two large rooms and a big bright white bathroom...with a bidet. Great for a few days if your visiting to see the sights...well not me...I was staying one night and think I was allocated it because the hotel was otherwise full * Super bright, cheerful and helpful receptionist despite pulling a double shift. * Good presentation and choice to the breakfast * Central location to the city with all it's restaurants ... We were part of a group of 58 people that stayed at the hotel for one week, receiving first class treatment throughout the stay. The hotel still retains the external structure and façade of the original glove factory it used to be, but inside you will see an amazing transformation into a bright, light and comfortable hotel. There are some 61 en-suite rooms spread over 3 levels with a lot of comfortable seating in various places, as well as some nicely appointed gardens, with more seating and ta... Read more

Just returned from a weekend stay at the Frownes Hotel and overall the group were disappointed with the stay. We stayed in room 106 which has one of the main roads into centre of town and even with the double glazing it was still very noisy. As for the room itself, they were dated and in need of a refurb with marks and stains on the wall and the wallpaper was coming away in places. The ceiling in our room was also cracked and a attempt had been made to tape it up and then painted over, but the t... Read more

We were travelling down to Dorset for a week's holiday but decided to set off the day before and stop off in Worcester. Found the hotel on and was very pleased when we arrived. Bang in the centre of town but not too noisy. And on the doorstep, almost, for the cathedral and the shops. Beautiful city... The staff were friendly and efficient. Because the local 'cheap' hotel had power issues all their guests had been sent to the Fownes so - bonus - we got a free upgrade to a suite! Thi... Read more

Stayed for one night for each of the last 3 years, the hotel is in need of some TLC and updating. Room was tired and those on the main road side of the hotel are noisy. Not sure how it compares price wise with other hotels in the area but I would rather pay a few quid more and get a more modern hotel

Fraid the cooking of the meal was simply not up to scratch - slapdash and with little pride shown in getting things right. Warmed home made rolls still frozen in the middle resulting in a dry, tasteless stodge. A minute portion of meat (estimated 4 ounces) supposedly seared, obviously cooked too slowly so it was dry and uncharted. Just not up to the standard implied by the prices charged. Double bedroom with only one bedside table and light. Had to search through the wardrobe to discover the se... Read more

Nice exterior, a restored glove factory, but really shopworn rooms and not idea of hotel service. Where to begin? The carpets should have been replaced years ago. The towels, assuming you can get one, are so linty that you have to brush off after drying. The hairdryer in our room was broken and we were told that it couldn't be replaced because maintenance doesn't work weekends. No coffee in the lobby. No apparent management. About the only positive is that the hotel doesn't smell bad. Really... Read more

I've been to Fownes several times for afternoon tea in the last year, each time it has been superb. Always a good variety of sandwiches and cakes, finished off by a delicious scone with clotted cream and endless pots of tea. Fantastic value for money. Lovely hotel and the staff are always helpful and friendly

I've travelled the world and stayed in more than 1000 hotels and the Fownes Hotel in Worcester is right down there at the bottom of the pile ! The room was dirty and in need of modernisation, paintwork shabby.. window sills flaking, carpet - I dread to think what lies within .. I kept my shoes on... wish I bought my wellies ! Don't ask about the bed.. very uncomfortable and thank the big guy I didn't have a black light ! They advertise as nonsmoking and yet there are burn marks on the bathroom... Read more

Stayed here recently to meet up with some old friends. Bedroom was spacious , bed was very comfortable, good quality bed linen. Excellent shower. The ambiance in the cocktail bar was spoiled by very bright lighting, so much so that we took our drinks out and sat in the lobby ! When I pointed this out to the barman he replied " well that's the bulbs they put in " Breakfast in the morning was pretty mediocre, cheap nasty fruit juice , limited fresh fruit, sliced oranges , tinned prunes. The pancak... Read more

This hotel is ideally located literally minutes from the bustling town. The room was large and spacious and included tea and coffee making facilities. The bed was king size. On the downside there is no air conditioning which was needed at the time of our visit due to the unusually hot English summer. However, there was a fan supplied in the room which proved useful. Another plus point is the fantastic breakfast which is self service to an excellent selection of English Breakfast goodies as well ... Read more

The Fownes is a historic site and it is properly rated as a 3 star hotel. It is quaint, provincial and old-world. Few amenities and rooms are pretty spartan altho' adequate. There are very few top-rated hotels, if any, in Worcester - the local and tourist economy simply cannot support such. Worcester is not a major tourist destination in the UK, not when compared with the neighboring Cotswolds, Stratford etc.. But, it is an "easy" town to navigate and prices (food, etc.) are very reasonabl... Read more

This hotel is a former glove factory located on the City Walls Road in the centre of Worcester which is walking distance from the town centre and cathedral, which must be the only positive, the hotel entrance looks impressive but everything is old, worn and dirty from the antiquated lift, to the room which was hot despite it being not that warm outside, the bed was hard and uncomfortable and there is a lack of 13 amp power sockets for charging phones etc; as all the sockets are round pin. Been working away from home for the past 4 months, and have been a staying around Worcester. The Fownes Hotel has ticked the boxes for this trip, offering a room where you can get a decent night sleep, great food, and cheery helpful staff all day/night long. The room is a decent size, with TV, wifi and tea making facilities, bath room with a bath and shower combined, the down side is during a hot night the room doesn't seem to cool down well. The food is a good quality, decent portion size an... Read more

My husband and I stayed at the Fownes for two nights for a weekend when visiting friends. The hotel was close to the town and the parking was convenient. Unfortunately the hotel experience left much to be desired. The hotel was quite dated and the hallways looked very tired. The room was very hot and the window only opened a very small amount. There were two free standing fans available which we used but they were very noisy! The breakfast was definitely the worst experience during our sta... Read more

It's ok, get what you pay for, good location though. Staff on reception could do with cracking a smile, very short and blunt with you. Then when checking out, she informed me we were being charged for car parking, as we had 2 cars and the booking price only includes 1 car, but they somehow failed to mention this when we first checked the cars in, so left us with little choice, again receptionist was rather blunt about it all. Rooms have all you need, however very warm and window barely opens, an... Read more
