We had 3 rooms booked at this hotel as we had a wedding to attend in the area. We requested an early check in and received an email to say it was confirmed. When we arrived at the hotel, a woman called Claire was on the desk who told us we wasnt allowed an early check in and expected us to get ready for the wedding in the toilets! She was nothing but rude and obviously needs some guidance in her customer service skills. However, another worker called Rob came over and was nothing but helpful. He... Read more

Had a lovely stay here with 3 dogs. The reception staff were welcoming and we had a lovely twin room. Couldn't fault anything. Right by the city centre for walks to the canal. We didn't have dinner or breakfast as we fancied eating out so can't comment on that. The seating area outside was lovely too. I will return in the future.

on arrival Marie went out of her way to find us a quiet room {some rooms are close to the road } Our room was excellent nice size too. Breakfast was excellent help yourself buffet they even done hot pancakes {if you like that sort of thing} . Only down side is that there was no electric socket by the dressing table it was on the floor underneath difficult for plugging in hair straighteners etc apart from that perfect .

We booked the room via a well known website, but we learned it could be cheaper to book the room direct, and certainly cheaper by about half for the breakfast. The website charges £15.50 per person per breakfast, whereas the hotel itself charges £8, so our 2 night stay would have cost us £62 for breakfasts alone, had we paid in advance using the website. The room we were allocated was excellent. It was well kept and well furnished. The beds were great, giving us a good night's sleep. We ... Read more

Stayed on a Saturday night in June when the races were on and the hotel was really full. We had a lovely big room with a huge king size bed which, although a little soft for my liking was comfortable and clean. I had read some bad reviews of the hotel but couldn't fault the room, location, friendliness of staff and quietness. Would stay again and would ask for the same room (225).

Went for a function, a bit disappointed with first impression. Could do with tidy up, dog ends greet you in the carpark and other bits of tat and junk lie about. A little shabby inside too. Food was about average, most staff friendly although a receptionist was a little abrupt. I would not like a night there as it right next to a busy road. So it could be better but any port in a storm. Don't forget your car reg, as cameras are keen to send you a fine.

GOOD * Ended up in one the wonderfully spacious suites tucked away in the far corner, two large rooms and a big bright white bathroom...with a bidet. Great for a few days if your visiting to see the sights...well not me...I was staying one night and think I was allocated it because the hotel was otherwise full * Super bright, cheerful and helpful receptionist despite pulling a double shift. * Good presentation and choice to the breakfast * Central location to the city with all it's restaurants ... We were part of a group of 58 people that stayed at the hotel for one week, receiving first class treatment throughout the stay. The hotel still retains the external structure and façade of the original glove factory it used to be, but inside you will see an amazing transformation into a bright, light and comfortable hotel. There are some 61 en-suite rooms spread over 3 levels with a lot of comfortable seating in various places, as well as some nicely appointed gardens, with more seating and ta... Read more

Just returned from a weekend stay at the Frownes Hotel and overall the group were disappointed with the stay. We stayed in room 106 which has one of the main roads into centre of town and even with the double glazing it was still very noisy. As for the room itself, they were dated and in need of a refurb with marks and stains on the wall and the wallpaper was coming away in places. The ceiling in our room was also cracked and a attempt had been made to tape it up and then painted over, but the t... Read more

We were travelling down to Dorset for a week's holiday but decided to set off the day before and stop off in Worcester. Found the hotel on and was very pleased when we arrived. Bang in the centre of town but not too noisy. And on the doorstep, almost, for the cathedral and the shops. Beautiful city... The staff were friendly and efficient. Because the local 'cheap' hotel had power issues all their guests had been sent to the Fownes so - bonus - we got a free upgrade to a suite! Thi... Read more

Stayed for one night for each of the last 3 years, the hotel is in need of some TLC and updating. Room was tired and those on the main road side of the hotel are noisy. Not sure how it compares price wise with other hotels in the area but I would rather pay a few quid more and get a more modern hotel

Fraid the cooking of the meal was simply not up to scratch - slapdash and with little pride shown in getting things right. Warmed home made rolls still frozen in the middle resulting in a dry, tasteless stodge. A minute portion of meat (estimated 4 ounces) supposedly seared, obviously cooked too slowly so it was dry and uncharted. Just not up to the standard implied by the prices charged. Double bedroom with only one bedside table and light. Had to search through the wardrobe to discover the se... Read more

Nice exterior, a restored glove factory, but really shopworn rooms and not idea of hotel service. Where to begin? The carpets should have been replaced years ago. The towels, assuming you can get one, are so linty that you have to brush off after drying. The hairdryer in our room was broken and we were told that it couldn't be replaced because maintenance doesn't work weekends. No coffee in the lobby. No apparent management. About the only positive is that the hotel doesn't smell bad. Really... Read more

Always a good variety of sandwiches and cakes, finished off by a delicious scone with clotted cream and endless pots of tea. Fantastic value for money. I've travelled the world and stayed in more than 1000 hotels and the Fownes Hotel in Worcester is right down there at the bottom of the pile ! The Fownes is a historic site and it is properly rated as a 3 star hotel. It is quaint, provincial and old-world. Few amenities and rooms are pretty spartan altho' adequate. There are very few top-rated hotels, if any, in Worcester - the local and tourist economy simply cannot support such. Worcester is not a major tourist destination in the UK, not when compared with the neighboring Cotswolds, Stratford etc.. A brilliant conversion of the former Fownes Glove Factory. The History of the Fones family is equally interesting. Centrally located with limited car parking, close to the Cathedral, city centre shops and restaurants, Canal and river. A lift, spacious rooms that are nicely furnished and well equipped. Nice bar and breakfast room. We did not use the restaurant. The service and staff were warm, friendly and very helpful. We loved the place and will use it again.

I remember Fownes when it first opened nearly 30 years ago, when it was THE premier hotel in Worcester. Alas that is no longer the case and, judging by the lack of staff, closed-up wine bar and general shabbiness, I would not be surprised to hear that it is going to close down, at least for major refurbishment. As for the bedroom, I suspect that the mattress was probably the one installed when the hotel first opened. The bathroom, despite its old-fashioned style, was very good.

This hotel is in an old glove factory, which gives it a lot of character. The rooms are comfortable and clean and they have used the old factory features well. They have kept the full height windows but artificially lowered the bedroom ceilings which gives it a bright, warm and homely feeling. The bedrooms decor is a little dated in design but has aged well and is quality so this added to the homely effect rather than detracted. Missing a few modern conveniences such as air con and a dedicate... Read more

When I dropped something and went to pick it up, I spotted two spots on the valance sheet - quite obviously dry old blood. Lots of promise on the outside, but tired, dated and a little grubby inside. Carpets are really worn, the towels smelt and the room was really hot, with the windows only opening a jar. Water was hot, but shower not powerful enough. Cups and kettle not clean enough to want to have coffee. Breakfast was ok, a small help yourself area, but no hash browns or vegi options.
