We stayed only for one night but it was great. The dinner was outstanding. Great wine list, also by glass. A lot of local beers on tap. The rooms are very clean and comfortable. The Pub is located very close to the cathedral and has free parking. We will definitly come back!

This place was wonderful, so full of character, peaceful and unique. The staff were so friendly and the food was great. We left feeling totally relaxed, having thoroughly enjoyed it. Great central location, perfect for all the sights. Great omelettes!

I booked last minute after reading reviews. On arrival, the place was nice in appearance and my room was lovely (Wolverston I think). I hadn't realised it was a Fullers pub because I've had a bad experience in the past and may have hesitated. The staff were REALLY nice but unfortunately my room turned out to be above the 2nd kitchen. I was awoken by clattering pots at 10.45pm. The noise came from below my room, but also through my window which had no latch. I rang down to complain, as I had slep... Read more

hubby came here a few weeks ago for a function and hasn't stopped raving about the place, so much so that he insisted on bringing me here for our wedding anniversary dinner on Sunday night. we travelled 50 miles for the occasion.......so high expectations from me! Lovely quirky pub, old prep school I think, school desks in the bar which were a nice touch, the restaurant which was busy was full of memorabilia, wonderful! The food (I had Roast beef) was awesome and the food was piping hot. The one... Read more

We had just completed the second leg of the Clarendon Way, walking from Houghton to Winchester, and arrived at the Wykeham Arms at tea-time. This fine establishment has a wonderfully quiet and secluded location between Winchester College and the Cathedral, so that all of the most interesting sites--the river Itchen, the College and Cathedral are in easy walking distance. It is ideal for Clarendon way walkers because it is very close to the way's end (or begining). As we checked in, the staff we... Read more

We keep coming back, so they are definitely doing something right. Classy food that covers the range between pub staples and fine dining is backed up by a great range of wines and ales. Atmosphere and service is relaxed and friendly. Hours of fun are to be had examining the quirky collections of items spread around the bar & retaurant. The rooms are comfortable and are located either in the pub itself, or in an annex immediately across the road.

My husband, children and parents stayed here for 1 night. We last stayed here about 20 yrs ago. Still got bags of character but parts of it feel very forgotten about. The downstairs loos are so smelly! Great breakfast and staff were great with the exception of 1 waitress who didn't seem to be on the same planet as everyone else. Would recommend the Wykeham Arms as a true Winchester experience but it could do with a lick of paint.

We booked dinner for a party of eight (a reunion). We started with predinner drinks about an hour before the dinner time and were well served. At the booked time we were well seated and attended to. There was a good menu that suited everyone and a good selection of wines. Service was efficient and everything ran very smoothly with a great evening being had by all. We were offered the opportunity to get taxis to go home, but in fact we walked back to a nearby hotel. I thought that showed great co... Read more

Yes the food was good, and it should be with dinner for 2 inc' wine at £90. The staff are friendly enough, but if you don't like it their way, then hard luck. The rooms are fine, again all well enough, but ours wasn't cleaned well on the days we stayed. There were light bulbs not working in the room and not replaced. The bars are lively but I wasn't sure if I was staying in a hotel, Inn, bar or pub. At over £190 per night, for 2 B&B I think I expected and should have received more.

Brilliant! Only stayed one night but really enjoyed our stay. Staff very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was superb. Only wish we could've stayed for dinner. Accommodation was also great, bed was very large and comfortable and the whole place was filled with character.

Stayed 2 nights in the Superior double. Very impressed with the style, authenticity, and elegance of the room. Felt like we'd stepped back in time, especially with the four poster and double roll top bath. Bed very comfortable and slept beautifully. Food and service lovely. Pub itself has masses of character aand intrigue and a lovely atmosphere. Very quintessentially English. Would highly recommend.

We had a very comfortable superior room in a building opposite the Wykeham Arms with views of a small garden and nearby rooftops. We dined twice and had excellent food on both occasions, This is a great location for the major sites in Winchester and the availability guest parking a real bonus..

We spent one night at the Wykeham Arms while visiting Winchester. The pub was very buzzy in the main bar, the eating areas were off to one side and every pleasant. The decor is madly eclectic with many Searle illustrations and memorabilia of bygone ages and pictures of worthy historical characters. Booking in was completed easily with attentive staff who whilst being very busy dealt with their customers in a friendly and efficient manner. The room was old fashioned and elegant and a lovely chang... Read more

The Wykeham is a very charming hotel with a wealth of character. The food is top notch and our room was both nicely presented and very comfortable. The staff were very friendly and helpful and its location couldn't be bettered as it's only a few minutes from the cathedral.

Had an unprecendented experience today when I walked into this pub and asked whether they could provide a high chair. He looked at me as if I spoke Martian. When I explained that I had an 8-month baby, he simply shrugged and said "we don't accept children here." Must have been part of the historical 17th Century tour that I was unaware of :).

One of the best Sunday roasts we've had in a pub. Beef was great - loads of it cooked rare with massive home made Yorkshire, beautifully cooked vegetables and crunchy roast potatoes. The lamb and pork were just as good and the set 3 course lunch was terrific value at £25. We had a bottle of the house claret which was very good. We started with an excellent warm fig and feta salad and some tasty olives & sourdough. The service was great and the pub is a quintessentially English experience. On... Read more

I have been coming to the Wykeham for many years and I have always given it 5 stars and recommended to all of my friends. During my last stay, many of the things I liked about the Wykeham were still there, but it felt a bit too corporate for me. It has changed ownerships and management over the years. The rooms are still as eclectic as always and the charm of staying there is an experience to be had. However, it typically carries a price higher than the surrounding hotels and part of ... Read more

Hotel in excellent location - easy walking distance of the cathedral and town centre. Food extremely tasty - would recommend booking in advance if you want a table. Full of character. My single room was quite small-probably not suitable for more than a couple of nights, and also up some fairly steep narrow stairs so could cause issues for the less agile. Service great from reception, bar staff, dining room and at breakfast. The staff did a great job on the Wednesday morning with a very diffi... Read more

I only usually write reviews about b&bs or restaurants where I have had a satisfactory experience, however, I feel so annoyed in this case that I'm going to break my rule. This is an expensive b&b, which I wouldn't mind, as it's in the centre of Winchester and the installations are not bad. However, to arrive after a long, hot day's drive expecting to be able to take a shower before an important dinner appointment and to find there is no hot water is no joke. The deputy manager's reaction was to... Read more

We chose for the 3 course Sunday lunch for £25 & what excellent quality it was. Brilliant service by Phil & our starters were delicious followed by amazing tender roast beef with a delicious selection of Summer veggies. Triple choc brownies for puds & these were out of this world too! Could not fault the food quality & attentive amusing service.

We have taken friends to the Wykeham Arms previously for Sunday lunch and they asked if we could re-book there when staying with us. The staff were excellent. Helen was knowledgeable, confident and friendly. There are lors of 'rooms' where you can dine and they are all quirky, as is the bar area. Three of us had the roast beef and another had the Chalcroft Farm burger. All were excellent (although the coleslaw did not have mayonnaise). We did not need any deserts as we were all full up, bu... We stayed in a room at the very top. The decor is tasteful and full of character. The chef and kitchen are excellent - we had the most wonderful chateaubriand for dinner and stil had roiom for a full breakfast the next morning. The Wykeham Arms is on a quiet little side street, but incredibly convenient for the centre of Winchester. Service is young, enthusiastic, welcoming and very efficient.

My wife and I and occasionally with other family have visited the Wykeham Arms, Winchester many times over that past few years. It remains unspoiled and a credit to the owners, Fullers. On our recent visit on 2nd July 2016 we had a great lunch. Nice table and good service. You cab get the occasional voucher for a free point or discounted meal if you tell them your birthday!

Highly suggested Ye Olde England pub with rooms, very full of activity at weekend but it has an exceptional location with some partial parking. It displays fascinating ambiance in the pub bar & dining room plus eatery and also in the uniquely characterful bedrooms. It was a very accessible walk for all attractions including the exceptional cathedral, bustling town & relaxing river-walk. The welcome plus all food, drink and service were second to none. Very relaxing stay. Friendly, low key but excellent service. Stayed with dog who was welcomed. Good selection of wines. Breakfast freshly cooked. Do not understand review which referred to poor quality ingredients. My eggs benedict were very tasty. Great location close to College and Cathedral. Would love to come again.

Lovely quaint old English pub with pleasant and fast service. The desserts are fabulous ... I had a lemon and lavender cake .. yum. The salad was extremely disappointing ... it was supposed to be a main sized roasted courgette salad but wouldn't have filled up a sparrow abd included just one small slice of courgette .. be wary of your choices

We stayed 2 nights here and it was fantastic. The first thing we saw was a wonderful display of flowers in the courtyard, and this shows the level of care to every detail. The staff are all happy and friendly, the food was superb (meringue to die for) and the room luxurious and comfortable. Easy walking distance to the cathedral and high street, and we even saw shooting stars! Great stay, will recommend to our friends. Cathy and G.

Everyone in our group raved about the generous Fish and Chips and also the hearty generous Shepherd's Pie. The atmosphere exudes a fun traditional feeling, and the staff are informal and welcoming. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. See the ancient Thomas Crapper toilets too!!!!!
