Very unusual Hotel. Looks as though it was built in the forest. Very pleasant receptionists. Large, clean bedroom with Sky television. All the extras you would expect in a first class hotel. Breakfast was excellent. Very pleasant staff. Next door is the zoo and many interesting finds within 10 miles. It would have been nice to see the manager walking around, though. I would highly recommend it. Enjoy!

We stopped as a family for a night on the way back from camping in the New Forest to have a little comfort. Yes, the place is a bit crazily laid out. Yes, the preponderance of pine can look faded and tired. But the basics were all good, and to be honest, when you've got young ones running around like crazy you don't want something to be too pristine for fear of them wrecking it. We arrived pretty late in the afternoon and had a good soak in the pool. There is a sauna but it seemed to actually... Read more

Lovely location, was great for the kids. Close to peppa pig world and right opposite the zoo- good to visit before coming home. Nice clean pool and great breakfasts with plenty to choose from ! Room was comfy and nice views. Park for kids to play in.

We got married here last May and went back there this year to celebrate our first anniversary. The staff were very helpful and managed to get me booked into the same wedding suite we stayed in for our special day. We both had a lovely lunch there, my wife had a lovely chicken and bacon sandwich and I had a spicy chicken pie with the most chicken I've ever seen in pie, there just have been a whole chicken breast in there! We spent the day at the zoo and then went to the hotel to chill out in the... Read more

We stayed here for one night as we were visiting friends in the area. There was a wedding going on so it was quite busy. The room: we had a standard double which was big with a massive bed, two chairs and coffee table, plenty of room to walk around. The bed was very comfortable, bed linen clean, fresh and good quality. There was an iron and ironing board in the wardrobe and a hairdryer too. The bathroom: this is the reason why only 4 stars. Very dated and tired, guess the bathrooms are g... Read more

We've just had a wonderful time at this hotels restaurant, 18 of us from toddlers in highchairs to pensioners. From the time of enquiring about the facilities to the lunch, I cannot fault them Jamie, the fabulous Events lady dealt with our enquiry with lots of menus and suggestions. She always responded to my emails the same day.On the day everything was perfect, from the welcome, table layout, place cards etc. The service and food were wonderful as was the bill. We could not be more delighted a... Read more

We booked a B&B weekend stay with Marwell tickets & dinner. Couldn't fault it. Food was exceptional. Customer service was great. Accommodated gluten free effortlessly - even on afternoon tea. The website deals are great.

Stayed one night for a business meeting at the zoo. An unusual building that does feel a little dated. I can agree with comments about the musty smell in the corridors that link the rooms. Unfortunately it gives a poor first impression. My particular room was clean but again in need of some work. The walls were full of scuff marks and there was a light shade missing in the bathroom. There was a choice of pillows and I found one that was very comfortable. I was pleasantly surprised by our evenin... Read more

I stayed here with my brother for the Goodwood Festival of Speed, we stayed for a total of 4 nights in a twin room. Previous comments on the musty smell in the corridors is accurate and the whole place needs some work to bring it up to modern standards, but overall the hotel was fine. The bedroom was warm (perhaps too warm) and the bed very comfortable, but the bath suite looked like it has come straight out of the 70s. Most of the staff are very good at what they do but there seemed to be an... Read more

Hotel was very tired and smelt musty. Room was ok and on the surface looked clean but when I went to plug my phone into re-charge I found what can only be described as a well chewed chicken bone, luckily that was found on the day of departure. Evening meal was excellent. It was such a shame that the restaurant had absolutely no atmosphere and it was so poorly decorated.

After a long whole day walk in the zoo. It was a good decision that we booked the hotel to stay for a night. Really nice ambience around, made us feel that we are still in the jungle. The wooden building and inside corridor looks very interesting. We had a very good night sleep in our comfy bed, the decor in room is nice and big space for 3 of us. Our dinner was fantastic from the starters to the puds..... Highly recommend to dine in a hotel. The package combined with Marwell Zoo is wort... Read more

Stayed here for one night having stayed here many years ago. Unfortunately it has not improved with time. Location fine, room ok but cold in corridors. Evening meal ok but at breakfast the plates stank and put me off my food. Looks like dishwasher needed a good clean.

Location - an easy drive from central Winchester, and literally, just across the road from Marwell Zoo Good sized room, comfortable bed - a little too soft for my liking, but that is purely personal preference, Sky tv. No air con, there was a fan in the room. Restaurant on site - service was attentive without being overly so, food was great, well presented, tasted good, and the dessert I had - Green Apple Parfait (apparently new on the menu), was SUPERB.

A comfortable stay but the room can really do with a make over. We like the garden area, the climbing frame keeps our kid entertained. The heated swimming pool is a plus but again, it can do with a bit of care. A good location for Paulton Park, Marwell Zoo and Winchester.

I stayed here recently for a friends wedding. The rooms are good apart from the shower and the breakfast was horrible, had a lump of fish in the scrambled egg. Mentioned it upon checking out and no apologies or token discount was offered. Stayed in much better for the same cost.

Booked 2 days before, good price. Nice big room. Booked table for 8pm so used pool and sauna for an hour. Nice way to unwind after a day of decorating. The menu didnt give a huge amount of choice but what we had was fantastic food. We were given a complementary starter to try and a pudding too. And the choices we made were exceptional. The service was great, and we didnt have to wait long for our courses. The only negative thing to say is the shower was a bit pathetic as far as pressure! Took ... Read more

We booked in for an afternoon tea given to us as a present. The food and tea were very good and served to us very profesionally. However very disappointed with the standard of the room was dull and drab. There were holes in the net curtains, stains on the inroom menus, the floor boards creaked as did the bed every time you rolled over and the bed was more of a put you up one that folded into the wall. Not a good night sleep. The rooms need some tlc. When we mentioned it they apologised but just... Read more

I cannot comment on the facilities, food or service at this hotel because, even though I had had a booking for last night since 12 June - and even though the hotel re-confirmed that booking to me by email as recently as Wednesday - they rang me yesterday morning, less than six hours before I was due to check-in, and cancelled. They told me that that this was because of plumbing problems. Of course I have no way of knowing whether that was true or whether they just cancelled me to give priority ... Read more

Stayed here while attending a military reunion in Winchester with my wife and two kids. Staff very pleasant and helpful food was slightly expensive in the restaurant but could not fault the quality or service. Breakfast was excellent plenty of choice and staff only to willing to help with any extra requirements. Room was very well equipped and clean and comfortable. One slight niggle was the swimming pool area was a little bit dated and grubby in some areas and could do with a bit of a touch up ... Read more

the hotel was extremely "tired" i would say that it desperately needs a full refurbishment,, my room was 303 and whilst it was a very quiet area of the hotel and the beds were really comfy the bathroom was very outdated the shower must have been one of the first made !!! both the bath and the toilet were made up of mix and match pieces. the bath was a very deep one to climb in and out of and there were no grab rails. my final comment is that although there was plenty of choice at breakfast it wa... Set within trees it was quiet and indeed like an old-style colonial lodge. It suited us very well in this respect. Service was first rate and the dining room for breakfast was a lovely space with a good breakfast. the bar food was less inspiring and a little expensive. We did not want the formality of a restaurant dinner but the bar offering missed the mark for us, sorry. The swimming pool and sauna are both small, especially the changing rooms, but were good for a quick dip, a linger ... Read more

We spent one night and this was really a nice place. The hotel resembles a safari lodge, located in the woodlands, and also with its architecture. While the aisles and room doors look a bit like in a youth hostel, the rooms are splendid, spacious and with comfortable beds. Breakfast is buffet, but with a very wide range of items, including fresh fruit, joghurts and warm food. Overall, a good deal for the 104 GBP we paid.
