Stayed here for the April 2016 Goth Weekend. We had two rooms booked numbers 3 & 5. Turned up and check in was painless, no problems even though we were early. Walked into the rooms and was so pleased as to how clean they were. Lots of little touches to make the room even tidier. Bang in the centre of the old town so we were right in the middle of all the action but as down a side alley we were not disturbed by any noise (other than the blooming seagulls - they start at 4.30am) Loved this p... Me and my fiance stayed Bank Holiday weekend (Sun/Mon) as a very last minute break to Whitby. The Dove Loft (formerly rooms 6 and 7 which have been joined to make a small apartment) was available, as it's new and hasn't had much advertising yet. We were really lucky! We hadn't any idea that the Tour De Yorkshire was on - like I say it was a last minute/impulse booking - so the roads were busy on the way up. But the cycling past quickly and we were near the front of the queue of cars at all time... Read more

Just had a lovely 2 days here. Stopped in rm 3 with the big brass bed. Lovely little touches throughout from the fresh flowers on the balcony to the wine glasses and the veninese whirls in the room . Very clean and Kim was very accomadating throughout our stay letting our daughter upgrade to the rm with the jacuzzi on the second night. Location is great. Right in the old part of town and not too noisy as set back in sanders yard. The seagulls are just part of the charm and there's no escaping th... Read more

Just returned from a 2 night break in Whitby at the Shepherd's Purse; thoroughly enjoyed the attention to detail, fresh flowers both in the room and in the bathroom, very clean and welcoming space; easy going hosts. We had dreadful weather and it made the warm haven of our accommodation, tucked away in a restored yard in Old Whitby, all the more appreciated. There are lots of cafes where breakfast is served all very close by and it was fun selecting a different venue each morning. If you are ha... Read more

Good Location. Room 3 small but clean. However, it was damp. Shared balcony ok if both parties smoke/don't smoke. The bench is under the window of room 3 together with table and ash tray and we were unable to have the windows open due to the other party smoking. Therefore, the room is not very private.

Fabulous just as described. Lovely room which was immaculately clean and the staff met us down in the car park to lead us there as it can be a little bit disorienting until you've been there a day. Parking is in the council car park at 7.50 a day. We waited about 15 minutes but got a speck and settled in for 2 days. We had the best time. Do not believe the people who say the seagulls kick off at 4.30am, we heard nothing until about 8ish and to be honest who would complain about seagulls when st... Read more

Shepherds Purse is quite unique, offering a different experience to what you'd get from a hotel. The room was a bit small, there's no wardrobe for example but that's counterbalanced by a beautiful courtyard and terrace. The bed was comfy and it was clean. Great location and the staff are pleasant. The only issue we had was noise from the seagulls. For two nights you can get on with it but you'll not get much sleep. I don't know if it's like that all across Whitby or if this is just where the th... Read more

The Shepherd's Purse is a great hotel run by lovely people. One of the owners - Kim - deserves special mention for going over and above to welcome us and get us settled in. We stayed in room 5 with a four-poster bed and balcony. The jacuzzi is really just a corner whirlpool bath so don't expect to share. We picked one of the busiest weekends of the year - the place was full - but the hotel is set in a quiet courtyard in close proximity to all the attractions of this idyllic coastal town. It wa... August weekend stay 2 nights in room 5. Good points - beautifully clean, very pretty shabby chic decor, polite & welcoming owners, great selection of teas & coffees in room, china crockery, wine glasses, corkscrew, hairdryer, jacuzzi bathtub, nice toiletries, even facecloths provided! Cute little balcony with table & chairs overlooking attractive courtyard. Probably be really cosy in winter and quiet when less guests are staying. Minus points - tiny bath towels rather than bath sheets, no shower... Read more

We have just returned from a 2 night stay at the Shepherds purse. I decided to book here for a little child free stay away for me amd my husband after seeing some of the photos. It was a little more expensive tham some of the other places i found. But i loved the look of it and have to say it did not disappoint. We loved our stay here in room 3 and will hopefully be returning in the very near future!!

Lovely rooms, extremely friendly and accomodating staff and a perfect location too. Stayed here with my girlfriend and would definitely recommend The Shepherd's Purse to anyone thinking of staying in Whitby and will be staying here again in the not too distant future.

Came to Whitby for the day with my wife and decided to stay overnight at the last minute. After a quick visit on late rooms we found this little gem. We didn't book through late rooms as the phone signal was poor so we just decided to find the shepherds purse and see if they had any rooms free. On arrival we rang the number on the office door as it was closed ( but it was a Sunday afternoon ) and within minutes one of the staff was on site to show me around the available rooms. We found this pla... Read more

Stayed here for 2 nights and loved it. The location is perfect. Due to the rooms being set back off of the main street through an archway and courtyard you really can't hear a thing. And then within 30 seconds of leaving your room you are back in the main pedestrian area of Church St. Perfect. Check in with Kim was quick and effortless, and he was very helpful, and showed us straight to our room. Although we had the smallest room (as it stated on their website) it was perfect for the two... Read more

We were five couples mid forties upwards on a weekend trip to Whitby sampling the food and drink that this quaint place has on offer. We booked five of the six rooms in the shepherds purse which was a master stroke as we enjoyed each others company throughout the whole weekend as all the rooms led out to or overlooked the small courtyard of the accommodation which gave it a homely communal feel. The room we had was number 1 which was a nice cosy room which was warm clean and comfortable. We have just returned from the Shepherds purse after staying for the weekend. We stayed in room 5. The room was small but beautifully presented with en suite bathroom and a lovely balcony which looks out over a pretty courtyard. It's secluded but in the heart of lots of shops, bars, restaurants and pubs a great base. The owners were very accommodating and friendly. Seagulls didn't bother us. It was quite peaceful. A lovely, relaxing break. We would definitely recommend this place and will be bac... Read more

We stayed at the Shepard's Purse Summer last year and we absolutely loved it! We arrived slightly late, so we rang who we think was the owner, who was more than happy to help us find the quaint little place over the phone and explain that our key would be in the door waiting for us. We stepped inside to a beautiful, clean room with an amazingly comfortable bed! In the morning we had breakfast in a lovely cafe just opposite. No fault of Shepard's Purse but our only advise would be to take ear pl... Read more

This is a boutique hotel that is family run. I obtained a good weekend deal for £100/night for the Dove's Nest suite: big; long lounge plus a room with a slipper bath and a separate bedroom . Overall a romantic spot in a good location. No breakfast provided but not an issue as many spots exist for brunch or breakfast . The hotel has no parking and it is tucked away. The car park recommended screwed us over as it closed at midnight on the Sunday and I obtained 2 tickets. The parking is a nightm... Read more
